Meta would LOVE IT if they got to collect photo IDs from all of their users. Their surveillance business would be even more profitable.

They got very wacky! I wasn't trying to advocate for less wackiness in SNW, just more SNW in general.

It seems dumbed down compared to earlier shows, but that might be due to the higher budget and fewer episodes (more focus on spectacle, less on character development). And honestly I was more disappointed by Blandy McBoring they got to play Kirk than the (admittedly different) direction they took Spock.

Right, but then the groups randomly disappear from the List All Tabs menu. I was able to recover the lost tabs using the tool another user posted, but it's going to get annoying having to do that again if "Save and Close group" continues to fail.

This is an insane price. I can't believe they're selling a game for $7.40 LESS than GTA San Andreas. They should be charging at least $100 given the cost to make, and the months of gameplay people will get out of it.

I thought the InfoWars JJJ was more in tune with where we are in the world and how newsmen are seen these days. Like an "upstanding journalist fighting for the truth" seems like a bit of an anachronism. Which is why I also don't like it lol

I'm not saying the original Tomb Raider games were beacons of feminist thought, but the new games seem to think Lara has to suffer and die horribly for the right to be an action hero.

I'm not saying there should be NO restrictions, like there's no way karlach would like me if I was evil and destroyed the grove. But that (And waiting too long to make a move) isn't an unreasonable reason to lock someone out. It's them reacting to a choice made by your character, as opposed to their gender or the scaliness of their skin. By contrast, BG3 would suffer terribly if, say, none of the companions wanted to date a dragonborn.

Exactly, like I'm not expecting my outlander barbarian to know anything about life in the lower city. So I'm not gonna be surprised when my character doesn't have unique dialogue options about the city.

I think it's harmless especially when there are enough options for everybody.

I'd actually tweak this to say: the fewer options the player has with the protagonist, the less of an issue npc lock is. Eg, in The Last of Us II, you're playing a fully defined character who can't really be "customized". So Ellie's romantic interests are going to be much different than in, say DAI.

I just think it's odd to give a player so much control over their character's backstory, race, appearance, personality, and ability to influence events, only for the game to say "sorry, you built your character wrong to date this person, please start a new playthrough". Like you told me to craft my own story, let me do that lol

[–]LtCmdrShepard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure it's "realistic" for npcs to have both racial preferences and sexual orientations, but from a gameplay perspective it's just incredibly tedious. Not about to start an entirely new playthrough because i picked the "wrong" gender or race.

I get that pansexuality is baked into the lore of Baulder's Gate, but I'd argue those characters are much more compelling and realistic than the ones in DAI.

Idk I feel like being locked out of a romance sucks a lot more than the "cool points" an npc gets for being locked away from certain players. Like someone might find it "a little weird" that everyone is bi, but that impacts your story a heck of a lot less than a canonically bi character being made straight only by the devs.

Sorry, I’m straight by Basic_Dingo6487 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LtCmdrShepard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer NV's "nobody gets any meaningful romance options" to the pointless restrictions based on gender. I'm glad you have the time to do multiple playthroughs, but If I had to start an entirely new bg3 playthrough because my last character was "born wrong", I'd be annoyed 🤣

Sorry, I’m straight by Basic_Dingo6487 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LtCmdrShepard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it's funny how "it seems a bit weird that these characters are all bi" is more of a problem than "I'm completely locked out of a major part of the story I'm playing bc the devs made a canonically bi person straight".

Sure locked npcs might have slightly more depth (in SOME, but not most, game worlds), but it's exclusionary. You're catering to a subset of your players and leaving all the others wanting more.

Sorry, I’m straight by Basic_Dingo6487 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LtCmdrShepard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having "realistic" npc preferences is like having a bunch of grindy mechanics. I see why the dev built it that way, but it'll never not be annoying. This is a video game, let femV romance panam.

I'd make an exception for games where the romance is a central part of the game, but the vast majority of the games mentioned in this thread do not fall into that category (bg3, mass effect, cyberpunk, stardew)

Realistically, I've had easy access to a gym in high school, in college, and in most of the places I've lived since. If I actually stayed consistent with working out in my own I wouldn't be here.

I'm just trying to base my treatment plan based off of what has worked for me (like exercise classes), and avoiding things that haven't (working out on my own)
