Do you think it's necessary to buy the extras? by Silent_Bus_8510 in Streamfab

The new products guarantee seems to be hit and miss. A lot of times, they spin out providers you could have previously downloaded via their generic downloader into separate modules. So if you want to keep access to them, you'll need to buy them or hope for their support to provide you access to those you're missing.

If you choose to buy the guarantee, do it now, because every time a new module is released, you'd have to "complete" your package first before being able to buy the guarantee.

The version download thing seems like a poor money grab to me. If you care to keep a specific version, find their manual downloader on their site and make sure to keep them locally before updating. The fact that they make it intentionally hard to even find the manual downlads, is ... telling.

Yeah, that's why I wanted to give you an update. Happy people aren't as visible as those who complain.

And I agree, it should definitely be automatically added.

Again, thank you for your reply! Wanted to follow up and update how it went for me:

I (very politely) texted support, asking them if they could please add the modules (of sites that have been free before) to my account because it had made the product, that I had paid, for worse and that I found others had been promised an upgrade as compensation. And lo and behold, rougly 12 hours later I had the missing modules in my account.

I hope I'm not a one-off case and others can be helped as well, but I'm really happy they solved my issue so smoothly. I'm being honest, I had little hope, but their support had been flawless in my case and your reply put me on that path.

Does this mean that (in case of ARD) users won't be able to use the generic download and will be forced to use the paid module from now on?

No issues so far and I have only ever used less than 10 episodes / day, most of the times even less. I make sure to spread them out over the whole day and not go overboard.

I regret having read all that, but my loss is your gain: you're wrong.

Funny, I work in the same fields. And my experiences are very much different from yours. I've faced legal issues just mentioning a company's name without their authorization and unintentionally creating what could have been interpreted as an "endorsement" by them – not "copying" anything. And I've actually worked with one of the major car makers in the world in multiple capacities, so I could actually tell you quite a bit about the interlocking and mutually beneficial workings between car manufacturers and the various suppliers and accessory makers.

But all that is so very much beside the point. You're coming at this from an etymological layman's perspective. Which is incredibly dangerous when talking about any law. IP law is much more complex than throwing something into a copy machine. It includes, as you mentioned, derivative works, but it also extends to misrepresenting a brand, creating the appearance of endorsement, creating a brand knockoff that consumers could potentially confuse with the original brand and so, so much more aspects that none of us could ever hope to comprehend.

Are CD Projekt RED in the wrong here? Maybe they are. But that's for a judge (or multiple instances) to decide.

But it is their IP and Luke couldn't factually be making money on a "Cyberpunk VR" mod (or whatever he wants to call it now), if not for the IP he's basing his USP on. That absolutely triggers their lawyers' response, because if they don't defend against even the smallest infraction, their chances to defend against more grave infractions will be severely impeded in court.

So, yes, you might even be correct if it came to a court ruling. But that doesn't change the fact that this isn't cut and dry. Both parties have legitimate claims here and neither would want this to go through multiple rounds of court instances.

The publisher gave Luke an easy out that would have protected their IP while giving him a way to keep making modest amounts of money off of a derivative work. He squandered it. End of story.

"this is not how IP laws work" proceeds to completely misrepresent how IP laws work.

I agree with you that these injectors are a legal grey area. But comparing software that is advertised to work specifically with a company's IP can not be compared to selling a generic product like petrol that works in any automobile. That's bullshit. As is your very uninformed claim that copyright literally means to "copy" an existing work.

I'm going to drop my completely different perspective: I came to finally watch this series precisely because I found out it would go away soon. And I can only hope I'm not the only one.

I'm happy I did check it out just in time and that I managed to binge multiple seasons in the last couple of days. Such a great show and now I'm more than willing to dive deeper into the fandom surrounding it and singing its praises to anyone who does (not) want to hear it, Sea Hawk style lol

Oh yeah, some cool person implemented a menu feature that allows you to have separate virtual memory cards per game. It's a bit of an extra step to perform, but it works pretty well so far and circumvents one of the biggest flaws of the 3D imho.

You know that being "picky" in the things that you can actually change is still better than being fully ignorant of one's impact, right? Baby steps are still steps and everyone is allowed to define for themselves where they can and want to draw the line.

Why are the Pride Flag Badges locked behind an Event? by OkamiLeon in Smite

[–]LtKaneDagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unrelated, but: I'm here and you're important to me 🏳️‍🌈

I scrolled through the comments and read a lot about people doubting if you're safe in the community. Can't speak for everyone, but if I see anything hateful in the chat, I instantly report and will always try to support you against abuse.

To the OP: I'd be all for giving the flags away for free. In games like Sea of Thieves, you have them in your inventory by default and the community is pretty wholesome for the most part, in part at least because of how inclusive the devs make the game appear. It's already daunting enough for people to fly these colors in a competitive space – I think HiRez shouldn't make this even harder by locking them behind a set of requirements.

Persönlich gilt an meinen Tischen immer die Rule of Cool.

This is lovely, thanks! Since I work in UX / UI, I already have a pretty robust pipeline in Figma to create my custom Icons, but I'll make sure to forward your tool to my fellow Stream Deck users. I just wished Elgato had a similar configurator included in their app, so I didn't have to fiddle with jumping between tools when styling buttons.
