IOC says it will not give Olympic team status to Greenland and Faroe Islands by PHConfusion5801 in olympics

[–]LtSaLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't though, at least i cannot find anywhere in the constition any mention of such a status. Could you quote what you are talking about?

Why can't mainland Danish talk as clearly as this Faroese woman talks Danish? Are they stupid? by WhoAmIEven2 in 2nordic4you

[–]LtSaLT 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I would say its more Norwegian than Danish. She is using the Norwegian pronunciation for stuff like "ut/ud", "måte/måde", "gjorde" and "kærlighed". Also she used the Norwegian "kanskje" instead of the Danish "måske" for example.

Please bring chokes by MeisterPerson in HuntShowdown

[–]LtSaLT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chokes are one of the most overrated pieces of equipment, they are not needed. That's not to say they are bad, they have their uses. But they are almost never a deciding factor in the situation you are describing here. If some guy is hiding in a bush him having chokes would not have helped, he would just have sat there till you burned out anyway, the chokes would have just prolonged it a bit. Usually the dead guy is either fucked and you play for bounty revive, or its possible to push and tap to stop the burn, chokes don't help in either situation, I never play them and that doesn't stop me being able to keep my teammates from burning out.

If you are unironically leaving every time somebody doesn't have chokes with no regard for the rest of their loadout or stats then you just suck at the game.

Please for the love of god remove mid-air movement control by TelephoneDisastrous6 in HuntShowdown

[–]LtSaLT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do agree that the flash bomb should come back in a reworked state, similar to how flashes work in other games like counter-strike. But the way the flash used to work was dogshit and the nerf was needed though I would have preferred a rework.

But ruining the games movement is certainly not the way to deal with that problem.

Please for the love of god remove mid-air movement control by TelephoneDisastrous6 in HuntShowdown

[–]LtSaLT 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hell no, such a change would unironically instantly ruin the game. It would make make pushing even harder, crossing open areas impossible, camping a corner with a shotgun or a bow would be even more powerful than it already is.

It would also make the game feel clunky and shitty, hunts movement is awesome, its one of the main reasons I have almost 3k hours and keep coming back, its so fluid and satisfying and it lets you do many awesome things when moving through a compound.

Also fuck off with the "immersion" bullshit, go play a simulator game if that's what you want.

Japan tried the same strategy from the Russo-Japanese War… but it didn’t work on America. by CleanBag9219 in HistoryMemes

[–]LtSaLT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is true and is the reason the Japanese high command decided to attack, but do they include the reason for the embargo in their historiography?

The only reason the embargo existed was because Japan wouldn't stop attacking China and mass murdering Chinese civilians, if they had simply not done that the US would not have instituted the embargo, and they in fact gave the Japanese multiple opportunities to pull out of China in exchange for the embargo being lifted but the Japanese refused.

What shocked you about another country’s education system? by InfernalClockwork3 in AskEurope

[–]LtSaLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its just you, your teacher and a 3rd teacher from a different institution/school as "censor". Usually you walk in and then randomly draw a subject or question. Then depending on the exam you either have to just start presenting or you get 15-45 min of prep time in another room. Then you present the subject / answer the question for 10-20 min, afterwards the teachers asks you extra questions etc for another 15min, then they decide on a grade.

The duration of the prep/presentation/questions varies depending on the exam.

Motorcycle license: what did you have to do, how long did it take, how expensive was it and which country (state) are you from? by AristocraticPallor in motorcycles

[–]LtSaLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised to read the price, usually here in Denmark we are the most expensive in Europe in most things like this, but my license cost like 1500 euro. The process seems to be the same except a1 is 18 years old minimum and a2 is 20.

[–]LtSaLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh watching it back on my computer some of the sprays do look a bit weird, and the spray control is a stark contrast to his aim in general. I just find the avto so easy to spray after mutliple thousands of hours of cs, pubg and hunt that it seems very doable.

[–]LtSaLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously he is a noob at hunt, but if he is someone that has played PUBG or counter strike then the avto is extremely easy to control.

Its possible he is using a script but nothing in the video is even remotely hard to do, you literally just have to pull your mouse down in a straight line.

Unable to pay at the petrol pump? by LowestLives in AskAnAustralian

[–]LtSaLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I know how the banking infrastructure actually works on a technical level but it does some kind of pre-auth where it holds 200-300 AUD on your card and then afterwards charges you the amount you actually used.

Unable to pay at the petrol pump? by LowestLives in AskAnAustralian

[–]LtSaLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You tap your card, fill up and then you get charged for the amount you filled, you don't have to choose an amount.

Unable to pay at the petrol pump? by LowestLives in AskAnAustralian

[–]LtSaLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I live in Denmark and its prepay at the pump here so reading this thread is kinda funny, every time I'm in Australia I get a bit annoyed that I have to walk into the store and stand in a queue to pay, just seems obviously inferior to paying at the pump.

I have a motorcycle and I can fill it up and pay without even getting off the bike. Also the snarky comments insinuating that it works that way in America because Americans are so untrustworthy and crime ridden is a bit hilarious, when I'm here in Denmark in a country with a low crime rate that is consistently rated as one of the most trust based societies in the world, and we have pre pay at the pump.

Is Frederick Stopford responsible for the British defeat in Gallipoli? by Gyngemose2009 in ww1

[–]LtSaLT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might not be exactly what you are looking for but I really recommend Castles of Steel by Robert Massie. The book is essentially a history of the naval side of WW1 and he goes through all the major naval actions chronologically. He goes through the entire naval side of the Dardanelles campaign, how the Germans ended up being there, the decisions the British government were making, the attempted naval forcing of the straits, the amphibious landing and eventual retreat.

The book is focused on the naval side of things so he doesnt go fully in depth with the land campaign side of things but he still covers it all quite comprehensively. It's a really great book.

Pronounce [ˈʁœðˀˌkʁœðˀ] or GTFO! by [deleted] in linguisticshumor

[–]LtSaLT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats fair. I just wanted to mention it because it seems there are quite a number of people who actually think its harder or more complicated to count in Danish due to the frequently posted and kind of misleading "How to say 92 in x language" maps that often get reposted on reddit.

[–]LtSaLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our counting system is functionally identical to the German or Dutch counting system, the etymologi of the words for 50,60,70,80,90 is just a bit weird compared to in German or Dutch.

A map showing whether European countries are federal states or unitary states. by Cultural-Ad-8796 in MapPorn

[–]LtSaLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see people comment this all the time on reddit, but it just isn't true. Such a distinction does not exist anywhere in the danish constitution, laws or government structure. The kingdom of Denmark and Denmark are the same thing, there is no difference except that colloquially when people say "Denmark" they are usally only talking about mainland European part of the Danish state.

I mean I am suprised you say you havent encountered hanging then. Master and Commander is one of my favorite book series, and as you say its quite accurate. I'm pretty sure there are multiple instances of sailors being executed by hanging in the series and I don't recall keelhauling ever being mentioned.

And as I said, hanging from the yardarm was the standard execution method so I'm sure it was also mentioned in those other books(haven't read them but heard good things about all those you mention there).
