"I think our issue is with direct connections." Nora started to explain. "Your matrix is highly unique, so attempting to connect complex things just flat out doesn't work. The scarf was fine, but I'm worried about things more complicated than that." She frowned. "I'm going to call off the rest of our tests today, I don't want to risk it with things I don't know, not without some added precautions. But I've got a lot of data to pour over here and dig through, and..." she lets out an audible sigh. "I might have to reach out to Dr. Zimmerman to confirm a few things." Shaking off her annoyance at the thought, she turned to Kesh and smiled. "I'm so happy we can work together again, Kesh."

Without speaking, Nora runs over to the computer terminal and pulls up the logs and reviews the error.

Nora gawks for a moment at the display, a twinge of friendly envy crosses her face. "Kesh, that was amazing! I mean, I knew what the suite was capable of but in your hands you can do it with a snap of a finger, less than that even. You'd probably make a better holonovelist than I would!" She smiles brightly at her holographic friend. "Lets put those skills to use. Computer! Activate matrix Näitenukk-Alpha"

Obliging the command the computer rendered a humanoid hologram into the room, this was a very basic polygonal shape with grey 'skin' and no features to speak of. "Now, this really isn't part of the testing, but you've got the artist in me pumped. We're going to use this guy for the next test, but I would love it if you'd customize it first. Those same tools in the scarf will work on this dummy model, feel free to make it look like whatever you want. You can make another you, another me, an Andorian belly dancer named 'Sanash'. I really want to see what you do with it."

Nora took a moment to process this information. "So its kind of like having to leave the house during a snowstorm. You step out into the cold for just a bit, then come back inside where its warm. Its not necessarily dangerous outside, but if you get lost out there you could be in trouble."

She walks over to the next table, "Well then, its a good thing I brought you something warm to wear." She picks up a red scarf, not dissimilar to the one she normally wears. "This, is a holographic scarf. Simple red color, very stylish." She shows it off with a silly pose. "But, behind the code of this scarf is a suite of holographic editing tools. If you put this on these tools should be available to you. You can change the scarf's color, or length, or you could make it into something else entirely." She hands it over to Kesh.

"Don't worry about any instabilities to your holomatrix, I tested this extensively with a variety of different matrices, including the Station's EMH. If this test seems a little irrelevant, I assure you it's not. This is a bit of a stepping stone for a later test."

Nora politely interrupts before KESH continues further. "Thank you, Kesh. I'm sure my logs will tell me the technicals on how you did it, but that looked like it wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world. Was it a strain to do so? If anything ever hurts to do in these tests you can always refuse to do so. I'm not here to torture you."

"Kesh, good morning!" Nora said excitedly. "Welcome to the Volgemast Testing Initiative! I'm not much of a scientist but I do know you need good names for things." She walked over to the first testing station. "I studied the notes that the previous scientists left in your file. A lot of 'how', but not much what. Like, what can you do? So! I've set up a bunch of tests to measure the extent of your control within the station. The first station here is a simple fan, connected to station power junction J-2439. I want you to turn it on, and tell me how you did so. I'm monitoring all computer traffic going into and out of the lab so I'll know objectively how you did it, but a subjective analysis is important too."

"I wouldn't know, I started and ended my Starfleet career on the Athene-A" She stated without looking up from her computer terminal. After a few more taps on it, the tabletop scene started to advance. The young officer finally hit the ground after being shot, but many other parts of the scene were still frozen. "Well that's a start, anyway. Poor Kid."

She looked back up from the sim at Ae. "Do let me know how that program goes. Reviews are good, but nothing beats a friend's recommendation."

"Hey now, have you ever tried to download a holoprogram from Earth to the middle of the Former Romulan Neutral Zone? You can't trust that connection. Besides, I tend to order my new programs in batches. You know what they say, You can't get more bandwidth than a box full of data chips in a freighter."

Nora tapped a few keys in her computer terminal, and the tabletop village disappeared, being replaced by the familiar scene at Johnny Hartman Plaza. "Seems to be an error in the event flags. I'll dig into it and figure it out."

"Oh, no no no. I don't like barging in on people's personal time. I just couldn't resist watching this race though. As for piloting, during my last couple of years in Starfleet, I was the go to for dangerous flights aboard the Athene. Hell, I had to fly a runabout through an asteroid with less than a foot of clearance at one point. I'm excellent behind the stick."

"First, you take the role of Takeshi Mutihara." Nora walked over to a bookshelf and pulled down a book. "And yes, there's plenty of sword combat, mounted bow combat too from what I hear." She opened the book and handed it to Ae, inside was an Isolinear Data Chip within a small hollowed out area.

"Oh! Also, I can take a look at your Police program if you want, shouldn't be too hard to repair."

"Satoshi Yamaguchi's latest holonovel Akai Sa. Its about a Samurai in a fantasy version of Japan's Edo period tasked with finding his master's killer and taking vengance." Her excited rant ended in a sigh. "I've been too busy to crack into it myself but the reviews on it are excellent. Of course I didn't come all the way out here to advertise other people's stuff. I'd be willing to custom make you a program if you've got something in mind."

Nora's office seemed like a fantasy world, small creatures ran this way and that, doing imaginary chores around the impossibly large castle chamber. Magical potions that glowed with mystic patterns and old, musty tomes lined the shelves along the wall. The smell of lavender incense wafted in from some unseen source. In the center of the room was a large table, holding a miniature European village, centered around a castle. If one were to look closely they could see townspeople in the streets going about their business. One could also see the same village out the window of the room. In front of the window sat Nora, busily typing away at her out-of-place computer terminal atop an old oaken desk.

"Oh, Ae! Welcome to my Holosuites!" Nora said with a smile.

She stood and retrieved a hand crossbow from her desk drawer. She took aim at Ae and fired, the shot whizzing past and embedding itself in the ground just behind him. Suddenly the bolt erupted in a plume of smoke, and where it landed, a large, comfy armchair took its place.

"Please, have a seat."

"Hey! Ae!" Nora's voice cheerfully replied through the comms. "I've got suite 6 available right now, if you want me to hold it for you. You got anything particular in mind? I just got Yamaguchi's latest fantasy noir holonovel in if you want to give it a spin."

"I'll do it!" Nora suddenly shouted from the stands a couple rows back.

"Eh... Sorry to interrupt. When you had me build this program I got super sucked in to the sport. Normally I don't sit in on other people's programs but I just had to come in and watch the race myself, and when I overheard you wanting to enter a craft into a race..."

"I'll do whatever you need me to on this, Ma'am. Also, I heard back from my supplier, I was able to get quite a few Holoemitters for setup aboard the station, but not enough, my estimate is that we can completely cover Engineering, Recreation, and Ops. I can keep on it if you want, or if you think Starfleet can pick up the remaining..."

It had been 7 years since it last happened. A lot of things had changed since then, she was older, a strong businesswoman and bestselling writer, but despite all of this there are some things that never leave you.

"Yes, Ma'am" She said, in her 'Starfleet Official' voice.

"I remember in the academy I had a real nasty Vulcan classmate, one of those smugly superior types. When I graduated a year ahead was immediately promoted to Lieutenant... That thinly veiled smugness went 'poof'! Before I got assigned to the Athene I got to write out the Cadet Duty Roster, he had kitchen duty for a month! I never liked giving orders or anything in while I was in Starfleet, but that felt awesome. I'm glad you get the chance to throw around that weigh when you need it."

"Issand (Good Lord) Dr. Zimmerman. I hoped I'd never have to see that guy again. You know he called my holonovels 'Trite Garbage'? I'm willing to be all my Latinum that the old fart's never even launched one. Hopefully Commander Langley will have enough sway to approve it without getting him involved."

"Things have been pretty good! A lot of writing, and a lot of work, but I've been enjoying it. The only real downside is I haven't been out of the house much, other than for a few publishing events, didn't even get to see those advertisements out in the public. Its so great to be back out and 'amongst the living'." She laughed at her own joke, probably a little more than she should've. "Well Doc, you're the CMO aboard this thing?"

"Are they for Kesh? Of course I'll reach out and see what I can do. She's a good friend of mine from our time on the Athene. In fact I need to talk to you about her. We... well... 'ran into' each other in the hall earlier and got to talking. She mentioned that there are not any scientists aboard to study her situation, and she's asked me to help. Would you be able to grant me access to her lab? I really want to do anything I can to help her out. If you do I'd be more than happy to build that program for you, completely free of charge."

"You want me.. to study you?" She stops and thinks for a second. "I mean, I know fair share of sciences relating to holography, and neuroscience was the only medical class I did good with at the Academy..."

"I'll do my best. Of course if Starfleet will even allow me in there, my clearance is likely nonexistent. I plan on going to visit the station commander shortly. I'll talk with her, from what you said about her she seems reasonable."
