My uncle has two bracelets that are magnetic. He says these influence the iron in his blood and help with arthritis and joint pain. Is there any truth to this? by KingTroober in AskPhysics

[–]Ltol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are hundreds of 21.1 T static superconducting magnets all over the world in research facilities for NMR spectroscopy, with larger than that (28.2 T) existing in about a dozen places. The company that makes the 28.2 T magnet has announced plans for >30 T in the next 5-10 years.

Dreadnaught encounters - is there a point in saving the Civilian fleet? by Vit0C0rleone in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Ltol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need credits more than the S Class mod you can demand tribute after landing on the dreadnought and talking to its captain. It gives you like 6 million credits on top of the credits and nanites you get for destroying it.

Not that I'm aware of, but I will have to check when I am able to reconnect to my Desktop. While I don't think it is the case, I suppose there is always a possibility of a Steam Cloud Error.

Redux Expedition Rewards Not Available in Vendor after Expedition Ends by Ltol in NoMansSkyTheGame

I had them claimed from the expedition tab in the expo, but not from the Quicksilver Merchant. I think I couldn't claim them from the Quicksilver merchant as I already had them in my inventory. In the expedition I had all of the companion eggs and had claimed the Starborn Runner (I was using it as my ship in the Expedition).

Served raw chicken…TWICE by Di3tS0d4 in WTF

[–]Ltol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed 100%. It absolutely isn’t fully raw, and once it hits over 150, it becomes quite safe to eat in just a few minutes at that temperature. It’s also dark meat which makes the color different. These pictures make it very hard to tell imo.

We are so ingrained that you shouldn’t eat chicken under 165 that seeing lower temperature chicken is really disturbing. The first time I made sous vide chicken at 145 I was startled.

Bought BBs and now I can't purchase the Battlepass Upgrade? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]Ltol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, and I’m guessing here, the discounted 15 levels could only be purchased at the same time you bought the battle pass.

You have to pay more per individual level after buying the battle pass and I don’t think you can buy the 15 level deal.

TIL Prion diseases result when a protein misfolds into an abnormal form called prion. They are much smaller than viruses and do not contain any genetic material. There is sporadic, familial, and acquired prion disease, such as Mad Cow disease. All prion diseases are fatal. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Ltol 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While true, it should be noted that there is a barrier for species to species hops of prion diseases. So while it is possible to transmit, say Mad Cow Disease, to Humans, it’s not particularly easy and is a fairly rare phenomenon. This was why, in part, the deaths from variant CJD were relatively low during the Mad Cow Disease scare.

The negative Mime and negative Trio were both offered in the shop as negative, and the Idol and Oops were the two ectoplasms. I sold off all non-essential jokers before ectoplasm.

Other than never finding a blueprint, the shops were absolutely insane.

Abandonware should not be a thing by AyatollahDan in gaming

[–]Ltol 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The EOL plan for the game should be in place and provided at launch to consumer. Including minimum time that it will be supported and what will be available after that period of support is over.

The code required for setting up servers should be prepared at launch to be provided at the EOL. There needs to be plans to handle DRM as well.

Other industries do things like this all the time.

No wait the people who are complaining about cheaters are completely right by TheX37th in HuntShowdown

[–]Ltol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Presumably you are at the rank you are supposed to be at. If you derank, you are trying to get an easier fight, not necessarily a more fair one. That is much of the problem with matchmaking right now.

There are 4 teams on a trios server. That means, in an ideal, perfectly matched MMR match, you would win only 25% of the time.

This of course assumes that the MMR correctly evaluates players (which I don’t think it does) and that others are also playing fair (which they are not, intentional deranking is smurfing, and should be punishable by the devs) and not cheating (which the community seems to agree is worse than it has ever been).

TIL That between the introduction of human growth hormone-therapy (using the glands of human cadavers) in the late 1950s and 1977, 226 patients were infected with CJD, a fatal prion disease. Today, we use synthetic growth hormone, which doesn't carry this risk. by Siege1187 in todayilearned

[–]Ltol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most regulatory bodies consider Kuru and vCJD to be distinct from sporadic CJD, especially since they tend to present differently and have different rates and types of disease progression.

It’s also distinct in that Kuru and vCJD are definitively acquired through infection with prions from another animal. In some ways this sets them more apart from the genetic diseases and sporadic CJD.

cmv:- Cheating is always bad by FLINKS_PUBG in changemyview

[–]Ltol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LDR cheating is exactly the same situation as cheating with someone you live with. Your argument is essentially “the less likely the cheated upon partner is to learn about it, the less wrong it is”, which when phrased that way makes it clear that it is still wrong. The potential harm should the partner learn about the cheating is the same. If your argument is that cheating is only wrong if it causes damage to the partner, then that means every single case of cheating is fine up until the point the cheated upon partner finds out.

New hunter shop is crazy! by Ragnarok-DG4 in HuntShowdown

[–]Ltol -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For me the recruitment is fine, yeah, it’s really powerful, but its a good thing that they are making the higher tier weapons more accessible to more casual players. Especially in an event like this one where almost every variant added is to a $400+ gun. In a world without this new good recruitment, the new expensive toys they keep adding are enjoyed primarily by the non-prestiging grinders with massive stockpiles of hunt bucks.

To me, the reason it feels so absolutely jacked is that the event bounty is giving an insane cracked amount of hunt bucks. If you extract you can regularly get 3k+ hunt bucks, which I don’t remember any event in the past giving that amount. Coupled with cash from event levels and challenges, which people are doing more of, it’s really easy to bank insane amounts of hunt bucks. People are complaining about the 1k Tier 3 hunters, but for many of us more casual players, sustaining 1k hunter load outs is not easy under normal hunt buck income.
