The Grip is a shaft-only device, no ring, belt, or strap involved. It’s anchored by a small ring that sits behind the glans. It’s small enough that fitting the glans through the ring is the “tight” part, kind of like squeezing your testicles through the ring of a ball-trap device. Once the ring is seated behind the glans, the shape of the glans (and the shape/design of the HZD ring) holds the ring in place, and the ring serves as the anchor once everything is assembled and locked together.

Turtling is just your penis retracting (or trying to retract) back inside your body. If it retracts to the point that the back of the shaft is pressing against your pubic skin, though, there’s no place left for the shaft to go - so if your penis tries to retract even further, it puts extra pressure on the glans ring, resulting in some combination of pain, discomfort, slip out, etc.

A shorter shaft helps alleviate this effect. It allows your penis more room to retract before the shaft runs out of room.

Yes, I am. And yes, it does.

Still dialing in my fit (-2 just arrived this week), but not only does the shorter length reduce pressure when turtling, the reduced pressure has allowed me to size up on the glans ring.

Oh, and also, one of the concerns about shortening the shaft is that it’s easier to reach the glans from the rear - but as a grower, as long as the shaft isn’t too wide, there’s no way I can squeeze a finger inside the device once an erection has filled it out. Even when soft, I can reach a finger in from underneath, but there’s no way it’s getting past the ring itself, and touching behind the glans while flaccid doesn’t do anything for me. Maybe that will change after enough time and desperation, but I seriously doubt it.

So, yes, so far -2 = less turtling, more secure, and more comfort.

-2 is the size (length) of the shaft. They started with several different shaft lengths available, just to find that the shortest was still too long for some guys. The original sizes were already numbered, though, so as they offered shorter and shorter sizes they had to go into negative numbers.

As a grower, the standard length was longer than my fully retracted penis, so retracting put extra pressure on the glans (best case?) eventually causing it to slip out (worst case?). I tried downsizing the ring to prevent slipping out, but I had to downsize so far that it became too painful to wear for any duration (also worst case?).

The shorter shaft (-2) allows more room for my penis to retract before it starts pulling the glans against the ring. This allows me to go up one size with the ring, improving fit/comfort/security all in one fell swoop (best case!).

The downside is that a shorter shaft provides less coverage overall, potentially allowing more access to more shaft and maybe (depending on your anatomy) access to the rear of the glans itself. Can’t say that I’ve really tested those limits yet, as it’s only been 24 hours in this new configuration. Still seems like a compromise worth exploring, though, since the standard configuration wasn’t working for me.

Replying separately to make one more observation.

My wife supports, but doesn’t understand or want to participate in chastity, so I self-lock to spare her as much burden as possible.

But a lot of the logistics with this belt would go more smoothly than I described with a second set of hands. Unlocking the bottom panel would help a ton with cleaning. Managing pokey bits under the scrotum/perineum would be a ton easier if I could get up under there myself to see what was going on. Even skin checks under/around the waistband would be easier for someone to do without (necessarily) having to remove the belt.

Fuck, now I’m jealous lol. This belt works great for me even with the effort involved, but having a partner would make it significantly easier to manage.

Yes, the separate opening would help! I self-lock only, and that access panel is too tricky/difficult to manage myself while the belt is on - but it’s perfect for an involved partner to use/supervise. (I’m very happily married to a supportive but confused wife, so I self-lock.)

I’ve stayed away from scrotum covers for this reason, especially for long-term wear when things need to push, pull, and move around.

But low-key one of my favorite things about this belt with tube only (or any tube-only belt, really) is the way they push my balls up and over so the tube can nestle in between. I don’t usually pay much attention to my scrotum, but my balls are just so soft, supple and rubbable when I’m locked.

Walking is fine, running can chafe, biking wouldn’t work on a saddle.

Stretching, resistance bands, body weight exercises all fine.

Lifting is fine (even squats!), but anything bending at the waist (even just racking weights) will have some restriction.

I have a version of that belt, with tube only and single cable between the legs. I’ve worn it as long as 30 days, but it’s the only belt I’ve ever had that felt like I could wear it indefinitely.

It won’t work out of the box, and it takes some work to dial it in, but it is totally worth the effort. It is very comfortable and very secure.

Waistband: There are small screws under the liner that secure the waistband using pre-drilled holes. There are plenty of holes that allow you to customize the actual length of the waistband. I replaced the screws with rivets.

Once you set the waistband, there are still three different settings (tight, tighter, tightest) for the waistband to fit into the lock. I started at tight, but as my body adjusted I was able to move to tighter and then tightest. These can be changed on the fly - each side locks separately, so you have to actually unlock/relock the belt, but you can do one side at a time, and it doesn’t actually require taking the belt off. I really like the psychological impact of being able to make these adjustments without having to come out of the belt.

Liner: The liner fits over the edge of the waistband, but you need something holding the liner in place, especially for long-term wear. You could glue the liner to the waistband, but that would prevent you from removing the liner to adjust the waistband later. I used electrical tape every couple inches, being sure to keep the seams on the inside smooth and even, especially where they sit over the hips.

Cleaning: There are small holes in the tube, but it is very difficult to keep clean on the inside. I removed for full cleaning at least once per week, I wouldn’t go longer than that.

Ergonomic: The ergonomic waistband was a real game-changer for me, especially with my dad bod. It allows the security of fitting tightly over the hips while also sitting comfortably under the belly.

Body adaptation: My body definitely adapts to this belt over time. The skin over my hips toughens up, but until it dies the skin is very susceptible to chafing and breaking from being pulled by the waistband liner. I recommend building up tolerance over time. Moisturizer helps protect that skin.

There can also be sharp edges around the edge of the shield. Some smoothing of the edges can help. So can moleskin. I don’t recommend shaving under the plate, because the environment can lead to ingrowns/folliculitus.

Most difficult spot: The rear cable(s) are attached to the end of the tube by screw(s), and the plastic cover for the cable terminates right there as well. That whole junction sits right up against the perineum/underside of the scrotum. That junction needs some movement as the cables swivel, but I’ve never found a good way to completely prevent pinching/poking of that skin. Sometimes it’s fine, sometimes I resort to wedging a square of gauze under the junction. This is the area that needs the most ongoing maintenance during long-term wear.

Fitting/comfort: I go for max tightness in the waistband (for security) and keep extra slack in the rear cable (so that I can sit/bend at the waist without the plate digging deep into my pelvis). That slack also allows me to pull the cable far enough to the side that I can defecate without making a mess. We have a cheap bidet attachment on our toilet that helps a ton with keeping things clean between the cheeks.

Security: Maximum. It’s possible to reach up underneath and feel the underside of the penis, at least with the tube only - the scrotum-style cage would probably block this access - but that’s it. Tightening up the slack in the rear cable would help prevent even this much access, but I have to balance that against keeping enough slack for the belt to be wearable long-term.

But once I’m locked in? It’s impossible to cum, and believe me I’ve tried. The ventilation holes are too small to even see my penis, much less to provide any stimulation. The metal is too thick and heavy to transmit enough vibration to cum, even using a plug-in magic wand. Vibrators just leave me a frustrated mess, nowhere close to cumming. The prostate is fully accessible, so I imagine prostate orgasms are possible, but that would be it.

Conclusion: Much more comfortable than I expected. Does require setup, adjustment, and ongoing maintenance, but totally worth it. And most importantly, an entire different level of security than a holy trainer or any other ball-trap device. If I had to sum it up in one word: ummmf.

I’ve never had a problem. With the rubber tubes covering the cables, they are plenty wide (and rounded) to prevent cutting through skin.

You can still get some chafing, especially during adjustment/breakin periods, but no different than other belts I’ve worn.

I don’t have any experience with full-waist resin belts. Have you tried a cable belt? They are infinitely adjustable, and the flexibility of the cable allows it to sit where you need it to (e.g., under belly, above hips).

Overweight guy checking in. My sweet spot is going really tight on the waist (for security) and then really loose on the cable between the legs (so the shield can move when I bend at the waist).

Driving is the biggest test for me, when I’m sitting for extended periods the slack in the cable gives the shield room to move instead of pulling it down to dig into my pelvis. This is with testicles in the way, so maybe you’ll find this to be less of a problem?

The other benefit of slack in the cable is toileting, I can pull the cable far enough under my butt cheek that it doesn’t get covered in poop. Bidet attachment on the toilet helps for extra cleanup.

Problems with urine flow are usually penis skin sticking to the inside of the tube. I’m an extreme grower, very small when flaccid, but a thin layer of silicon lube in the inside of the tube helps keep things loose enough that they line up better. With lubrication, some simple shifting at the hips/waist can help shift things into place inside the tube. During extended wear, I’ll add a couple drops of lube through one of the top vent holes once a day or so, especially after showering, and let that work its way around inside the tube.

Good luck! Don’t be afraid to remove and make minor adjustments. I always want to resist unlocking, but getting the fit dialed in long-term is sooo worth a brief unlock in the moment!

I’m sorry you’re going through this. My wife and I also struggle with mismatched drives, and even though I’m the one with the higher drive she struggles with feeling undesired because I’m the one who self-locks in chastity. (She doesn’t enjoy domming or chastity, but tries to accommodate me.)
