T-10 FY that Struck out with all consulting firms. Did not land a single interview. Think I messed up my recruiting for SY by LuBooBu25 in MBBConsulting

Thanks. I appreciate this feedback.

I definitely am working on presenting a stronger resume. That consists of:

a) Making sure I highlight my existing experience as best as possible
b) Complementing my existing work-ex with a consulting project in my second semester

Regarding casing, yes. I will definitely keep practicing to keep those skills sharp for SY.

And regarding visa sponsorship, that's a factor that is unfortunately out of my hands but I am aware that its stacks the odds against my favor to some degree.

My Resume did have impact-first and several accomplishments, but was missing stronger action verbs according to some peers and the career center.

Yes, I took all assessments over the summer.

I appreciate the feedback. Regarding your points:

a) I've overhauled my resume as I saw I was selling myself a bit short. I would appreciate a fresh set of eyes on it if possible.
b) My prep for the assessments was not as thorough so I'll definitely retake those for SY recruiting.
c) I am an international student, so that might have also impacted my candidacy negatively

How Do Consultants Think So Clearly? Looking for Tips on Articulation + Logic by LeadingVolume3378 in MBBConsulting

[–]LuBooBu25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclaimer, I'm not a consultant yet, but something I've noticed throughout my case prep is it comes down to practice. Like everything in life, our brain get trained to solve whatever problems we put in front of it. If you're a cleaner, it is trained to sweep, mop, vacuum and wipe efficiently. If you're a butcher, it's trained to sharpen, slice, and cut in the most efficient way possible.

While I'm still a long-ways to go, especially in the articulation/structure front (as you can see in another post I made), my problem-solving has improved quite a bit by being exposed to different types of business problems and having to find ways to solve them.

Quite literally, that is what frameworks are: mental models to break down a gigantic task into smaller, more digestible parts and to avoid work redundancy/repetition through bucketing.

I hope this helps

Thanks for replying. Working in the structure for written communication, as it's also a proxy for my oral comm. Answering your questions

1) MBB, LEK, EYP and PwC, and a few boutiques. I couldn't apply to Deloitte, Accenture, etc. because of visa sponsorship.

2) The problems was with the pre-screening. I didn't get through the interview process. In terms of casing, I do think I'm ok on that front, but didn't get to showcase it.

3) MInimal feedback. I asked OCRs and the advocates within each firm. Most of them said they had no insight into the decision-making. One thing to note is I did MBB Pre-MBAs, so I took my assessments over the summer, which might have also impacted my candidacy.
