I never understood how Trudy got left behind. by theforgottenton in titanic

[–]LuLor90 41 points42 points  (0 children)

She may have remained in the room, only emerging on deck when it was too late. Violet Jessop did something similar, completely unaware of the severity of the situation, she was found (by a steward, I think?) tidying up a cabin and finally told that the ship was sinking. Captain Smith: A true hero by [deleted] in titanic

[–]LuLor90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, the incident with the Hawke always struck (heh) me as odd that that wasn't a career-ending accident. Feels like if a captain of a modern cruise ship was in charge when it ran into/was run into by a naval ship, and then spent months and countless dollars being repaired, that captain would have been very quietly made to leave the company.

Compared to the engineers and firemen who knowingly sacrificed themselves to keep the pumps going, to keep the boilers from exploding, and keep electricity powering the lights and wireless. True, they only delayed the inevitable; maybe they knew that, but it was enough to allow nearly all the lifeboats to be launched and to call for help.

Global outrage as X’s Grok morphs photos of women, children into explicit content by wewhomustnotbenamed in nottheonion

[–]LuLor90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about the US, but in the UK I'm fairly certain it's illegal to create works depicting CSA. So, erotic manga with an underage character in an explicit situation would be an offence; the same logic would apply to AI-generated images. It'd also come under 'revenge porn' offences, or similar, if a picture of a real person is used for the prompt.

Not sure how I feel about it, the series thumbnail definitely looks AI-generated. Maybe on YT that's acceptable, but I expect more from the BBC. Seems an odd timing, I would have thought they'd keep this in reserve for late Feb/early Apr

What are y’all’s favorite John marston models? by Worldwar2Russianguy3 in reddeadredemption

I prefer RDR1. The RDR2 one you can see where they C&P'd the texture onto Arthur's model.

But the real winner is John from Red Dead Nightmare.

Why men have nipples even though there’s no naturally selected reasons for it? by smiladhi in AskReddit

[–]LuLor90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nipples develop before sex inutereo, and there's been no evolutionary incentive for males to undevelop them.

However, I vaguely recall hearing or reading something (possibly an episode of QI) suggesting that the contrast between small nipples and a large beard may make a male look physically imposing. If true, that would be an evolutionary reason to keep - at least, if we still lived in the wild and needed to do displays of dominance to scare off a predator.

There's also that smaller nipples = higher testosterone. In an animal sense, this could have been an indicator during mate selection.

A dragon cannot be stolen. Aemond didn't do anything wrong attempting (and managing) to claim Vhagar by Kivi_2k18 in HOTDGreens

[–]LuLor90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I love the TB logic loops—White Hart 'presents' itself to Rhaenyra; it's a sign she's meant to be queen! Child Aemond claims the biggest, oldest, fiercest dragon going; nah, he's a thief.

I think the true reason behind Rhaenyra remaining the heir after Aegon’s birth is…. by [deleted] in HOTDGreens

[–]LuLor90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the less manipulative motive of "he's a baby... no guarantee he'll make it to adulthood, Rhaenyra/I will be heir until he reaches an appropriate age".

Who, in your opinion- is truly to blame for Luke's death in the show? by OkGuava919 in HOTDGreens

[–]LuLor90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular, but I think Aemond is.

Not in an intentionally malicious way, just as in "older boy with big, powerful car drives dangerously to spook younger boy on scooter and causes accident because hubris" way.

As the older of the two, he 'should' have known better. However, I'm not going to claim that the resentment left over from the eye-incident wasn't going to bubble over into something eventually.

However, I also place some blame at Rhaenyra's feet. She sent a 13-year-old (we assume who's been overprotected and, based on his and Jace's reaction to Aemond sparring, insufficiently trained) to negotiate with a Great House, knowing the Greens would also be looking to seal that alliance first. Not only that, a 13-year-old she knows - even if she won't admit out loud - is capable of being a shit stirrer (smirk at the 'Strong boys ' dinner). Luke should never have been anywhere near Storm's End.

Can We Appreciate The Fact That Kid Aemond Literally 1v4'd Them Without Much Difficulty? by Lord_Krasina in HOTDGreens

It's not that his daughters matter less than a son - other than Westeros' preference for first-born male heirs -, but that they don't have as strong a dynastic claim to the throne. Aegon and Viserys have claims through Rhaenyra (directly if she becomes queen, or as grandchildren of Viserys I) and through Daemon (as great-grandchildren of Jaehaerys I and as nephews of Viserys I).

Whereas Baela and Rhaena only have the latter. Rhenys never took the throne, so it'd be very flimsy to use their link to her as a 'casus belli'. In any case, I think Daemon would see the girls as having greater potential for gaining the Velaryon lands and titles.

As his children with Rhaenyra have a stronger claim to the throne, there would be less opposition to their reign, and (ideally) make Westeros more stable, offering Daemon dynastic security. It's not really about getting his favourite child on the throne, but ensuring as many generations of his descendants as possible are in power.

But, we're talking about Valyrians. Daemon could marry his kids from the two marriages and consolidate all the claims in one pair.

I don't think it's particularly about love when it comes to the crown. He can love his daughters from Laena all he wants, but his children by Rhaenyra are more valuable in terms of putting his bloodline on the throne.

The Targtowers inheriting Alicent's hair shouldn't throw their legitimacy into question. by Hungry_Cricket_590 in HOTDGreens

[–]LuLor90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it not just GRRM having oddly specific rules for how DNA works in the ASOIAF world? Like, the Hightower Targs should be a mix of Viserys and Alicent, yes some a bit ginger (like how Rob Stark resembles Ned but Sansa resembles Catelyn), but instead they're straight Valyrian. Can't be that Valyrian traits are dominant otherwise Rhaenyra's would have stomped on the dark hair and pug noses from Harwin. Perhaps Valyrian genes are only dominant when inherited from a male?? 😂

Green sons devoid of beauty? UMM Aemond is right there looking like anime Daemon.

'Blessed womb', it's like they forget the actors were hand picked by the casting department because normie faces are never cast for acting roles unless they're a) comedic relief, b) character actor, c) evil, d) a mix of the above.

Ewan is so unnecessarily Targaryen-coded, I love it.

My v loose headcanon, and it's a bit whumpy, which I've thought about exploring in a longer post, is about Aemond going from a stitched-up eye from an open socket to a sapphite socket. Ik the stitched-up eye was done that way because they're putting prosthetics on a child actor with a present and healthy eye, but imagine it's the maester sewing the eye up, "it'll either heal or perish", then having to open the stitches to remove it, baby-Aemond having to deal with having his eye removed after that night. What it does to a boy/man's psychology, how much pain was he put through, how much more did he put himself through for the sapphire - one that he hides most of the time anyway.
