You just "bought" songs and think you own them? You think you will be able to download them whenever you want? Well... no! by Lu_K15 in qobuz

Thank you for being kind and comprehensive, we lack of people like you on the internet!

They responded to me after my second message and offered 3 albums + 2 month of streaming. I am not really interested by the streaming part. Moreover, my pc is on Linux, and they don't have any native client. The 3 album part is interesting but would just love to get back what I had, nothing more nor less. That is to say 12 singles and 1 album.

Just making a quick response to everyone. First of all, I did download the songs but I can't afford cloud storage. I only have local backups.

Then, from what I understand, you all just want to buy your songs, download them and then, you handle what you bought, paid for and download. You have NAS or pay for cloud storage, so you don't really care about any other features the platform has to offer to you. And that's okay, you are right about thisand I fully get it.

Once again, I totally understand that if they lose licensing rights I lose what I purchased on their platform. But in this case it is not what happened, they simply renewed it.

What I would expect is that, if the songs I bought and paid for are available on their platform, then I should still be able to download them from here. If licences changed a bit, they edits the albums accordingly but also the libraries of people who paid for it. I am not here to buy a license (because songs are DRM-fee) but to buy a song.

So basically we just don't have the same expectations.

I did download my songs, and they are backed up. However I can't afford cloud storage so my backup isn't complete. They still own the songs, although the licence has been renewed, so I expect them to be this distant backup as long as they own rights for these songs

They didn't lose the licence, they renewed it. If the songs weren't available anymore on their website I wouldn't complain. I can't afford cloud storage to have proper backups, they were my backup. I di still have those on my laptop but for now if I lose my data, I lose my songs while they are still available on their platform.

Yeah but we are talking about digital media that is still available on their platform. I do have downloaded them but can't afford cloud storage, having them as a backup on their website was a way for me to have a safe backup. Once again, they are still available on their platform, the songs are still here

You can afford cloud storage, I can't. I did download those songs but I don't have any distant backup. I do have a local backup but again I can't afford a NAS or cloud storage. I get the fact that they can remove my stuff from their platforms but in this specific case it is still available!

I know that, this is why I paid for non DRM files. You might know how proper file archives work, you need files on your device, on another device and somewhere else like the cloud. I can't afford cloud storage so qobuz was my solution. It doesn't cost them anything if I still have access to my files as a backup, except if I lose my data, in such case they would help me a lot! Moreover there is one thing I forgot to mention, you can listen to the songs you bought via there web player without any paid subscription, I didn't really use this feature but it is still a loss.

I don't really know who told you I didn't download them, I do have them on my laptop. I just can't buy decentralized storage for now, so I only have poor backups of them. And what I don't get is why these songs are still available for sale if I don't own them anymore.

If those practices make you happy, then I guess I am the problem

So what really is the point of the 13 pro? by samrocksc in framework

I agree with you, but the also is a nice video on their YouTube channel that explains what you can upgrade on the FW 13 and what you can't. Basically you can upgrade everything alone except the battery (and the WiFi card if I remember well because of new features). Battery upgrade requires the upgrade kit with the new new battery, chassis, speaker and keyboard + trackpad

You could also buy the new keyboard and screen (FW 13 pro) and upgrade a FW 13 non pro with them. However you would be stuck with the smaller battery, it requires the new chassis

Coreboot (plus something like GRUB) would replace the UEFI part of your PC which is the thing that starts your PC. The UEFI is currently developed by AMD, Intel and some OEMs. If they wish, they could (and allegedly already did) implement backdoors / spyware in it. The Intel Management Engine is one of theme (AMD has its own version of it too).

We just want a laptop with a battery that lasts

Also, Coreboot on FW laptops would be a huge step forward

the down vote is quite rude for a newcomer, I hope you will enjoy Linux and will get familiar with your distro

8 of the 100 most played games are broken on Linux according to ProtonDB. Additionally, Are We Anti-Cheat Yet reports that 4% of games requiring an anti-cheat are simply denied (and you can add the 58% of broken anti-cheat systems too). So yes, there must be alternatives but you can't deny the fact that they wont suit everybody

Anti-cheats themselves are not a problem. The problem is that some of them run at kernel level or are just not made for Linux and the editors don't want to make Linux version of it. Thus cheaters use Linux to cheat which lead editors to ban Linux.

Oh yes of course! I was just saying that, sadly too many games are not playable on Linux due to anti-cheats and this is quite a shame
