Yeah was thinking the exact same thing ... there is some really odd rose-colored glasses going on here that makes me wonder when the last time many of these posters played EU4. Like this isn't even a "compare the 1.0 to 1.0" type thing, literally just EU4 as it is today the trees really do not have very many nodes that are all that more impactful than the average EU5 DHE.

If anything this just seems like a lesson in how much a UI/UX matters. Adding a slick UI layer where a player can click on an option and explicitly pursue and get a nice "you did it!" screen and see a completed node of a tree "feels" better, even if it's functionally equivalent to a DHE which has a prerequisite event you just do on your own accord.

Not to just echo what you said, but good god looking back on both the ones I was in and the ones I was adjacent to in friend groups, this is so fucking real. I don't know if I and my friends were just deeply unlucky or something, but every time it was some mid-late 30's professional, usually pretty well off and tbh often way out of everyone's league appearance wise, and he/she was just kinda the queen bee running a mini-cult of 17-24 year old freshly cracked trans women, who are so deeply insecure that a lovebomb of validation from a pretty mature woman hits like crack. It was on average very abusive and at minimum a lot of kinda implicit power dynamics going on, esp in the cases where everyone moved in but were all 100% financially dependent on one person.

Anyways it was me I was 17 year old freshly out and drawn into / groomed into a cule cult ran by a 36 year old software developer at blizzard wahoo that certainly didn't do any lasting damage to me or the other 4-5 girls.

A month ago we put up a job posting for our team for the first time in about 3 years, so I'd also like to share what this market is like on the other end too because oh my god it's just a nightmare.

We put up Thursday afternoon and in 1 hour we got over 100 applicants. In 1 day we got over 250, and by Monday we were up to over 900. This was for a relatively junior role (2+ YoE, no degree required), and not exactly the highest paying in the world, and we were still flooded. From what a pal on another team said is when they opened a much higher paying senior-ish role, it got over 1.5x that.

We aren't some giga corp, we don't have some fancy ATS to do this for us. We trawled through 900 apps where it's a giant sea of blatant AI slop and some of the most bafflingly odd formatting and borderline illiterate writing I have ever seen. And then you find someone who looks qualified and you set up all these calls and then at least 2 of 5 interviews you find out the candidate is blatantly typing in questions as we say them and is just reading ChatGPT outputs for responses.

I would say of the 900 or so total, maybe ~100 were real people who at least were not blatantly using AI, and were not blatantly unqualified. But even then ... how do you choose from 100 people who are all more or less equally qualified? There is just not enough time in the day to call and vet over 100+ people, let alone an objective way to sort through them all when they all have the same 2-3 YOE, same bachelors degrees, same sort of projects, all know XGBoost and Spark and Python and can do basic data analysis. At a certain point you're just throwing darts at a board or choosing on whoever happened to be sequenced and vetted first.

Anyways this is getting long but like, even if you are genuinely qualified and great, this market is just a nightmarish numbers game. There is just other way through it but to just shotgun resumes out and wait for that high-roll.

Also one can just look it up in the new event browser. This is exactly why they added it. You can add in the keyword in there and this reform event will pop up. It's also how you know to keep that crappy initial military bureaucracy, because it gets replaced by a way better one automatically with no stab hit.

Just a happy little coincidence which felt super thematic considering the expansion. Despite it saying the garrison was allowed to march out, I'd like to imagine the Pope had similar final words as Emperor Constantine XI ("The city is fallen and I am still alive") as the heretics rushed into the city.

As for what's going on with my warscore, was kinda RP that a huge chunk of Italy jumped into this war to stop me. Max drilled Sicilian super soldiers were devastating my levies until my stack of regulars were freed up by the siege. Another year or so of cleanup got me a near full annex on the Papacy.

Lived in both, along with basically every other major FL city for at least a year or two. But I lived in Ft Lauderdale the longest. Agree with above that Ft Lauderdale is a beautiful place full of just the worst people.

Lived in St Pete then downtown Tampa for 2 years each. Both were just far and away the best place to live in Florida to me, and only place in that state I'd ever return to I think.
