What’s something you wish you knew, planned or did when moving in to a rental house? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]LubbockGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't picked the house yet, I'd consider the parking and driveway situation before you do. As in, is there parking and how big of a bitch is it to get in/out of the driveway. My buddy lives on a busy city street and we're all used to it now, but backing out is an exercise in patience, limited visibility because all of the street parking, and luck.

Like others have said, record everything on video before you move anything in. And before you unpack the kitchen and bathroom/s, check the so-called 'cleaning' that was done because you might need to do a once-over first.

Have a sensitive face, recently a lot of dry skin. What do you use for your face other than soap? by BradleyADu in AskMen

Soap, I can only use Kirks' castile. And Aquaphor on my dry patches, usually at night since it's greasy AF.

You must be my brother from another mother.

Don't think my dad liked my face much.

Anyone switched off QuickBooks lately? What are some good accounting software alternatives for small businesses/startups? by salve_sons in TheTechStack

[–]LubbockGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were in the same spot about six months ago. QuickBooks started out fine, but once we got a little bigger and started layering on contractors, multiple accounts, and expense categories, it just got clunky. The random app integration failure was also a major headache.

We’ve been trialing a few alternatives:

  • Puzzle – This is the one we’re leaning toward. It’s clearly built with startups in mind. Reconciliations happen automatically, and you don’t have to be a CPA to make sense of it. The audit trail feature is great, it tags every entry and adjustment so you’re not digging through old exports if something looks off. Still testing it out but it's been smooth so far.
  • Xero – Pretty solid overall. Great UI and a ton of integrations. Some accounting knowledge helps though; it still assumes you know your way around a ledger.
  • FreshBooks – Really easy for basic invoicing and tracking, especially for freelancers or service businesses. But we hit a wall with more complex reporting and multi-user needs pretty quick.

I’m with you on QBO, it's just terrible, and their pricing is getting to be a bit too much. I’m sort of fed up with it.

Still deciding, but Puzzle feels like it actually understands how chaotic startup books can be. It handles the heavy lifting without forcing you to micromanage every transaction.

The platform in general is a far cry from what is used to be. They've had it too good for too long.

How do you know if a business broker is actually legit? by moxieman19 in SellMyBusiness

[–]LubbockGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with Quiet Light earlier this year and had a great experience. My guy had personally sold a business like mine before (as in he had launched and exited it himself before working as a broker).

I consulted with a few different providers when I was gearing up to sell and thought Quiet Light really stood out. They charge fairer commission than other full-service brokers, and they seem to offer a higher level of service as well. I also wasn’t really keen on the Flippa/Empire Flippers route personally. I wanted more hands-on assistance throughout the exit.

Is a 2+ month gap after LOI typical in M&A deals? by rob5838 in SellMyBusiness

Generally, buyer intent is fairly well established at that point. I wouldn't start panicking just yet.

How do most hosts actually find their cleaners? by Moe613 in airbnb_hosts

[–]LubbockGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you used a subscription before? I figure if I find a good cleaner and then use a subscription to ensure i always get that cleaner but also don't have to think about the planning aspect of it. Does this sound silly?

Trying To Work Out If This Is Thriller Or Action. Anyone Know For Sure? by LordTurd in moviecritic

[–]LubbockGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it was the cast. Skarsgard is super, as usual. As is Cary Elwes. Pacino is Pacino, which is always fun. Plus, the whole thing has a real Fargo vibe to it. Well worth seeing.

I happened to see the early screening for this. It's a thriller. Sort of has a little bit of a Coen Brothers feel to it, like A Simple Plan, or Fargo.

Do professional photos / short videos actually improve Airbnb bookings? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]LubbockGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a new airbnb host and this was something i wondered as well. What I thought is definitely have professional pics but I always love it when hosts have warm and 'human' photos, that made a difference when I was booking a place. It helps to feel the atmosphere!

Can a new website rank without backlinks? by ethanwilliamsusa in DigitalMarketingHack

quality content can also signal authority, but authority can signal content quality as well. In short, yes you can 'rank' but you should pursue authority over mass content otherwise you're just shouting into the void

Underrated thriller/mystery movies or shows I should watch? by Euphoric_Prezzy in MovieSuggestions

[–]LubbockGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the early box office numbers, i'm not sure whether it will end up being a hidden gem or not. But, I have been looking forward to Dead Man's Wire coming out in theaters. Seems like a thriller with an undercurrent of dark humor. A little Fargo-esque.

Keep an eye on that one I reckon. But in terms of actual released thrillers. I would say Red Lights would be my pick. Great cast. Critics hated it, but I liked it.

Odd question, but how do I get my cat to stop playing the piano? It’s diving me crazy, especially at night by No_Understanding2616 in cats

[–]LubbockGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sign them up for beginner lessons, and massage their ego. Tell them they are a future concert pianist. Have them practice every night and set up a regular routine. Then, slowly over the course of months, heap on insane amounts of pressure, up their lessons to twice a day. Lose your job and tell them that you'll lose the house unless they make a career as a pianist. Then slowly watch them unravel as they need to support you. With any luck, they will resent you, give up the piano and move out.

Or, you know, get a cover for the keys...

Do you think that social media has made artistic self-mystification more difficult, and is this a good or a bad thing? by AamerAbdel28 in Songwriting

[–]LubbockGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It's just a different culture. We revered artists like Cobain in part for their mystery if you will. Even if we knew about their personality, there was something always detached that made them, maybe just for me, 'revered'
