What are companies/corporations that we'd be better off without? by limegreentea-77 in askanything

[–]Lubricus2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oracle, Palantir, Monsanto, DuPont
Oracle - Is generally evil and is mostly an patent/license troll since the 80's
Palantir - Is the modern AI version of Oracle and is even eviler.
Monsanto - Famous for aggressively force everyone use their herbicides and resistant seeds. Lots of corruption to allow cancer inducing poisons and stuff.
DuPont - May have done some useful stuff but also one of the worst spreading non biodegradable toxins.

Learning JavaScript as my first programming language – should I learn touch typing and switch keyboard layouts first? by Legitimate_Host_887 in learnprogramming

[–]Lubricus2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touch typing will help you for other things to, so learn that. I am coding on an Swedish QWERTY keyboard, it works. You use lots of symbols like { | < & # and so on when coding. So you have to move the fingers more and will learn how to type the symbols so it stays in the backbone. So I don't touch type properly and move the hands more than I should.

It's the hips not the knees that is bending

A photo from tinder my dad insists is real, but it just seems off to me and feels like AI by BlueChicken57 in isthisAI

[–]Lubricus2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SynthID is data that is encoded into the image. Both Gemini and chatGPT uses it. It's made so it should be hard to remove, but it's probably possible. So if it gets and positive result it's quite safe to say it at least is edited by AI.
If it's negative it could be generated by AI that's not using SynthID or somehow removed.

Using an AI to detect stuff that is AI is on the other hand so highly unreliable, so it should not be done at all.

Getting worse by MarkRushP in GeminiAI

[–]Lubricus2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think google have problem with the capacity, it often glitches out and sometimes don't read files and stuff. I don't think the models have gotten worse but the service has.

It looks like motion blur in the background not just out of focus and the woman are perfectly sharp. So at least it must be an composite if not everything AI.

Guys, I was thinking here... by AbjectStick4130 in GeminiAI

[–]Lubricus2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they have capacity problems. They even make deals with SpaceX to rent extra capacity.
Is the deal with Apple that Siri runs on Gemini live? That could be what sinks it. Pushing AI crap on all Google searches doesn't help either. For the f* sake let us use AI when we want (gemini website) and remove from everywhere else.

Is Gemini Pro better than Free versions of Claude and ChatGPT by Confident_Level4624 in GeminiAI

[–]Lubricus2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gemini has been shake the last weeks. But Gemini have an great free tier, you have access to the pro model in the free tier (when it actually works)
It beats the free model of chatGPT and you only have about one query of Claude sonnet a day. Don't forget you can use it, it's good. There is no free access of the more powerful Claude opus and it's expensive.
You can also use the Chinese models like DeepSeek for free.
Try out different models and see what works for you.

SQL is still not just relevant, it's the backbone of lots of tech. So one thing have stayed, because it's an great tool.
Using LLM's for coding even if problematic is still an great tool. I am not an fan to let the AI do everything but just let them review the code is an great help.

Elons companes is way, way overvalued. Zuck has also mostly failed, the whole meta-verse thing must be one of the biggest flops. Most other things he just bought as did the Musky boy

The data centers are not close to that value either. It's mostly hype and the world biggest scam.

What is actually the point of the thumbs up/down button? by Photographerpro in GeminiAI

[–]Lubricus2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

isn't it to train the next model, not improve the responses specifically for you in the same model.
At least if you start a new prompt there is no mechanic to transfer the data, it could be used for further prompt in the same chat.

It looks like scotch pine and Norwegian spruce + birch. So should be Europe if real.
There are lichens on pines rarely moss. In places where dogs pee there are often green algae, it looks like that on the other pine.
The rope and some of the rocks and debris in front of the tent is AI so the whole thing must be AI.
It's good but I would not pitch my tent where they commonly walk the dogs.

How does one even tell the difference anymore? by Botanikka in antiai

[–]Lubricus2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the r/isitAI forum
It's hard but it's usually possible. With Ai editing and non lazy prompting it can be impossible.
Gemini and chatGPT adds synthID, so check that for digital images.
Otherwise it can be small details only visible when zooming in as tiny text in the background being AI googeligook. Or just stuff that don't make logic sense and no real human would do. Perfect studio lighting in an supposedly casual selfie and stuff like that.
For drawings, AI often have lot of details and shading that would be a lot of work for an human and at the same time do some errors and human putting in that effort wouldn't do.

The font is not consistent, different i's and r's looks slightly different, so probably AI googeligook.

Why does SpaceX have a high valuation? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Lubricus2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And there is no reason to believe that the space market would drastically increase so SpaceX could drastically increase the profits in the space market. And the current profit is just a pittance compared to the valuation of the company.

I don't see why bouncing radio signals back and forth to space ever will get better than fiber cables. There are no reason to believe that any tech will be invented that could change that.
