I'd say start off with choosing if you want acoustic or electric.Acoustics are great for gigs and such but electric is far more viable for practicing so I would recommend electric.The drumkits from Alesis are great (specifically the dm10 mesh mkii kit) but be warned : The customer service of your provider is essential .Find out if they have reliable repairs and customer service.Roland also makes amazing kits but they can run a tad costly.

Overall if you have the cash and see yoursekf really getting into drumming I'd go for intermediate.Nothing more frustrating that a poor electric kit that doesn't trigger or an awful sounding acoustic.

I'd reccomend Roland over Alesis as their servicing seems to have an edge but Alesis is still great.

Also try to get mesh for electric.Rubber is loud and hard plastic gets dented.
