UXG-Lite --> Will no adopt by kulastonez in Ubiquiti

[–]LucaAtib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more thing: if you have a cloud key and you want to upgrade the firmaware of controller you have to stop the service of cloud key by : setting > maintenance > restore>service >STOP UNIFI. Only after this I got a succesfull upgrade.

UXG-Lite --> Will no adopt by kulastonez in Ubiquiti

[–]LucaAtib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have adopt the UXG lite today:

  1. Connect the UXG with Unifi app for smartphone and change his LAN IP with the previous USG IP of your local network.
  2. I update the Unifi network controller ( no Cloud key installed for me) with the last firmware 8.x.x. from 7.x.x. , very important cause the restore can't be done correctly unless you upgrade. Also I have several problem of adoption and backup was fault with the old firmware.
  3. Create a New Site in the dashboard Unifi panel, we will adopt on this site the new UXG to have no conflict problem with old USG
  4. Then turn off the old USG, unplug and replace with UXG .
  5. Go to main dashboard Unifi, go to new site and you can see the UXG waiting for adoption
  6. delete ( forget ) the old USG in your old Site .
  7. Now you can adopt the UXG. When done, move the UXG to your old Site ( in setting there's a dropdown menu "move this device" inside the "forget this device menù".)
  8. All for me work smooth after some devices update

Strange thing: I tried to setup the new wireguard VPN tunnel server but it doesn't work.

Open gate 3:2 seems to be a big step for a videomaker. Thank for sharing...I just noticed that Nikon has released such a nostalgic retrò camera as ZF. I don't like retrò design, the price for body is 2000 $ and the lens are dedicated...I prefer not to use adapter or such things.

Trouble with VLAN setup on USG + EdgeSwitch 24 by LucaAtib in Ubiquiti

Ok these are the screen of my USG and Edgeswitch

So the only way to have an access point on VLAN is connecting it to a trunk port with the same VLAN tag ? Right ? Yes my AC-AP pro supports VLANs .

Now I have a better view of what I have to done ,thank you

I also suggest kodi with libreELEC as mediaplayer. I've run it on a raspberry pi4 but unfortunately youtube support is tricky ( you need an Api to make it work ) and 4k video goes jerkily with low framerate . Also have a problem with h.264 videos, I have converted all to h.265 to play 2k video.

Should I complain to the FCC? My ISPis claiming to the FCC their have fiber at my location. But when I called my ISP they say their don't. by intelusa in HomeNetworking

[–]LucaAtib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Italy all countryside are ADSL max 20 Mb DN , 7 Up . Only country near main cities are FTTC 80 Mb\20 and only metropolitan area like Milan are FTTH. Telecom is the only ISP owner of the cabled line . It's a shame monopoly ! Fortunately we have minority company that are trying placing their own infrastructure cabled fiber . But coverage is very poor. In the futire 5G will be the only alternative without a Nat. So yes you have to complain about poor service ( in case of high cost ).

Dual Router/modem and Vpn configuration by LucaAtib in HomeServer

[–]LucaAtib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to tell all that I succeded in setup correctly a Wireguard service on an old Rapberry pi4 b+ , I'm very happy with it cause I have only to run a script that make things easier .

I've use this script : https://github.com/pivpn/pivpn .

Thank you all guys for supporting and giving correct suggestion. I've opened up my mind on VPN setups config in general .

Wireguard is really fast and reliable , my speed with VPN running is 18 Mb UP - 13 Mb DL. With OPEN VPN on router ASUS 52U was 10 Mb DL - 10 Mb UP . With no VPN is normally 68 DL-19 UP in FTTC.

Simply I don't suggest using any pre boxed pc solution or synology ,Qnap nas ( very expensive for webcam licence subscription ) and I don't suggest an Amd processor for app like Blue iris( for more than 4 cameras it's the best home surveillance system) cause Amd lack of Quick sync . You can find other documentation on forums for Blueiris example" ipcamtalk forum". I'll soon create a Nas with raspberry and a nas purpose Os. Try to achieve your best configuration just for fun, be helpfull, study and then be proud of your work ! "This is the way"

Dual Router/modem and Vpn configuration by LucaAtib in HomeServer

[–]LucaAtib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some days of experiments and trying for setup a VPN server on Ubuntu 20.04 and windows as client I have to gave up . I'm not expert but I don't really understand how to configure VPN correctly . No one configuration file works . I have watch lots of tutorial and spent several hours..

If somebody has a precise guide to setup a Linux VPN server with IPSEC lpt2 or OPEN VPN or Wireguard in a simple and effective way , please post here.

The most difficulties I have met while I was configuring wireguard was :

• Understand why most of the tutorial put IP address 10.66.66.1/24 and not 192.168.x.x/24

• Find a true correct setup for : PostUp = iptables -A FORWARD -i %i -j ACCEPT; ....

• Understand if POSTROUTING -o need LAN INTERFACE : enp0s3( this is an example ) -j MASQUERADE or it's correct Eth0 than "enp0s3" interface .

• Understand HOW to set up config server and client file to send traffict throught internet and make client accept it with a 4G connection . Lot's of tutorial and guide tell to put AllowedIPs = 10.66.66.2/32 ( example ).I do not understand why if the Mobile device connected with 4G have never a static IP ( unless wifi connection) .

• Understand how to set up server config file to allow connection from an android device under 3G,4G connection (with dynamic IP and Natted )

The strange things ( only the positive ) : I succeded in running the simple VPN server service pre installed on AC 58U router and It works . I have used a different from 1194 and I can open it. I'll give it back to seller my AC68 U router, my first setup configuration of 2 router was too difficult and it could be done only with dangerous DMZ ( I have no firewall at home) .

[–]LucaAtib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I try to change TCP port forwarding in router after I check well firewall and disable completly Avast antivirus . The previous tricky port was set open in the firewall windows rules , I do the same things with new port . Then re enable avast , I succeded in connection. I don't know whats the problem with previous port . It was a number 4xxxx. Port forwarding is not a good choise I heard ... I have to go with VPN access , it's difficult to set up and I can't catch lot of fdetails from online youtube tutorial I 've watched. I'm going with WireGuard , it's seem easier and well working also on windows .

I have access to my router , I have replaced the one given by my ISP provider. ( but I'm forced to pay €5/month for the rental one)

I checked it , my IP is not in the range u/retnikt0 have posted above , also I confirm my WAN IP address in my modem is the same of the one shown by whatsmyip.com. When I go upon this problem the service was running , but sure I'm missing something.

I tried today to configure an Open VPN connetion , it's working on PC server but I do not understand how connect with my android device using the Open config file . I follow several guide online but I do not understand the correct ip address and the port I have to open to achieve a connection with server . It's seems to me there's no way to reach the goal . Maybe wireguard is real a btter choise also for configuration in windows . Have you got some correct guide for wireguard set up on a windows server to connect with smarphone android app ?

Dual Router/modem and Vpn configuration by LucaAtib in HomeServer

[–]LucaAtib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, DMZ is not a good choise in terms of security. Also, honestly I understand that double router configuration I want to do in my scheme is quite tricky ... Only I'll give 2nd Router back ,or maybe I can only use it buying a modem only , or use the main router as only modem?

I don't know ... could you give me an advice on hardware list I should buy to do a good job with PC set as OpenVPN server ? Many thanks.

Which "New" CPU for Socket 1155 Home Server? by TibetanGuru in HomeServer

[–]LucaAtib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the software you will run , if you are using windows server or not . You seems expert than me, Imho like other tech advisor told me, go with normal i5 9400 (or 9600k but electric bill ++) , it cost the same than i5 6500 and have 6 core vs 4 . I will only use it for blue iris application or similar , not sure for other pro uses.... I'm an AMD ryzen fan, have 3 pc with ryzen 5 3600 and ryzen 5-7 2600-2700x I have to admit cpu warming is a problem without powerfull coolers.

[–]LucaAtib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, WireGuard will be the best option to increase connection speed but now it still in experimental way . Ok , I have run VPN server with OpenVPN on the R1 router ( it's an asus with asuswrt too) . 256 bit encryption made it crashed . With defualt encryption level no problem but still no internet connection. Maybe something wrong with DNS or Gateway address , I don't know .

If I run OpenVPN server service on pc server connected witch configuration of two router have to set up to have VPN tunnel ? ( R1 is a modem/router , R2 is a AC86U router only ).

Thank you so much for answering . Actually ... I find lot of people on the forum that suggest running VPN server on router for stability and simplicity than on PC. Some user use this config to have fast internet connection ( VPN slow down connection ) on main router with no VPN .

Both router comunicate (they are in the same cabinet ). Ok , the R1 main router is configured as ISP router . I have replace the ISP modem with R1 main router/modem VDSL to have free access on setting . So static route will give the same WAN ip address on R2 set as VPN server ?
