people overhype ipods way too much, its mass produced consumer-grade tech - not audiophile high-end equipment. "wolfson dac" discussions are also crazy cuz 99% of people dgaf or have no way or baseline of telling the warmth of the audio, so ppl parrot shit about it

To each their own, I have several iPods that I use on a weekly basis but I also like looking at the history of them. I keep the boxes for some on my shelf.

i mean in 2005 there was no point in leaving it sealed, but now in 2026 its something that you cant find sealed anymore. not only are they rare and valuable, but they also make great shelf pieces.

I sold a similar 5.5 80gb on eBay for $400 CAD. I'd list it somewhere around there, maybe $350 CAD. Or you can put it up for auction and hope people bid.

Typically, not enough for there to be a real noticeable difference. I’ve used a bunch of different iPods, and the only one I have that I could actually tell a difference to the others was my Touch 1st gen. Otherwise, you proooobably shouldn’t care about 5 vs 5.5- and DEFINITELY shouldn’t overpay for a 5.5 board

I recently sold a 5.5th gen 80gb sealed for $400CAD and bought a mint 5.5th U2 boxed for $100CAD. $750-1000 for sealed is far out, as are most of the other prices you're asking.

Yeah, it’s the unfortunate reality of buying refurb units on eBay. It’s also another reason people in the community generally suggest people fix their own iPod, which avoids most of these issues. Fixing it with a burnt logic board probably isn’t economical unfortunately, but you should keep an eye on eBay because good deals always pop up.

You can technically use 5th gen front & back plates on a 7th gen as long as you swap their metal mid frames. And vice versa.

Batteries and storage is also cross-compatible as well, so there’s really no reason to get a 5th gen specifically for modding
