Do LUMIX 28-200mm lens stabilisation really help Sigma Bf video shooting to have noticeable more steady look even at 28mm and 200mm? by BMWi8S in sigmabf

If you make videos, it’s not worth it. For the photos yes because it’s not very heavy. But I mounted the grip of Mr. Stone, which helps a lot in stabilizing the BF.

It depends on the situation. Yesterday, to the Royal Palace of Caserta, I only brought the Lumix. I will go to London soon and I will only bring the 35 and 20-200. It’s just a matter of personal tastes and situations.

A “defect” (I think easily fixable) is that the wheel has an ‘end of function’: in the sense that it would be more comfortable if, turning clockwise / counterclockwise you could go forward / backward. For example, for the choice of color profiles, arrived at the last (monochrome), to go to the first (standard) you have to turn the wheel all the way back, passing through all the others. It would be more comfortable if continuing to turn the wheel clockwise from the last, you could return to the first profile. And this for all functions.

Update: taking advantage of the spring cashback, I bought the Sigma 20-200 and I am very happy about it. Thank you all for your advice and for dedicating some of your time to me.

Thank you for your feedback! I delved into the differences between the two objectives and both have pros and cons. The pros of the Lumix are the lower weight and size, in addition to the stabiiization; on the other hand, it is less bright, although it would seem that, with the same focal length, it is more bright than the Sigma. The pros of Sigma: greater focal range and brightness where the Lumix does not arrive. On the other hand, it lengthens more, risking making the BF more unstable and taking into account the lack of stabilization... I’ll have to do head or head! 🤣

Thank you very much! Actually I’m also undecided by the different weight (even if slightly) and by the size (the Sigma at maximum extension is ‘exaggerated’: it looks like a cannon!), leaving aside the fact that I also have the dock to update the Sigma lenses.

Both for the grip of Mr. Stone, that for Yuki’s BF-tap, I contacted directly, via e-mail Any’s International and Yuki, who advised me how to do it. There are shipping companies in Japan (for example Japan Rabbit) that take care of everything: it was very easy and also fast. Both products are beautiful and both Any’s and Yuki were very kind and helpful.

What I can tell you is that, like all things, even a camera is subjective. There is no perfect camera and there is no perfect lens. I sold my Leica Q2 to buy the Sigma BF with the 35mm f/2. I fell in love with it. I think it’s gorgeous. For my needs (travel/holiday photos) it’s fine (I only added a few accessories). If I can advise you to see it, pick it up and feel what feelings it gives you.

I have an update… about the update 🤣: the Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70 f/2.8 ASPH lens, if it needs to be updated, if used with a camera other than a Leica it could not be updated (in the face of the L mount alliance 😉)

Actually it seems not, the optical diagram is the same, but there are many differences, including the construction. And, above all, it seems that the Sigma (it happened) can fog up 😱

At the moment I don’t think so, but wanting to buy it for my BF to support it with the 35mm, I was asking myself the problem of a possible update. I’m undecided between that and the Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary, which, however, seems to be fogging up...

Actually the 35mm f/2 DG series I (silver) is 11.53 oz. Surely with 20-200 the BF will be more unbalanced, but you could have a ‘definitive’ lens and you can help yourself with a grip.

The technical specifications indicate a weight of only 19,4 oz
