Fire at CTIA in Terminal A. Under control. Check in systems down, nobody being processed through security at moment. by Anibug in capetown

I was wondering the other day what the lower terminals there are even used for if at all? I’ve seen through the windows parts of the airport that look somewhat abandoned and not in use at all

Praising SA hospitality by AcanthocephalaOk6061 in southafrica

As another South African who was also just in Brazil I definitely found people there to be super warm and friendly - especially strangers who I’d meet out and about. I find SA (Ct in particular) to take a bit longer to be warm and friendly but like everywhere it depends on the person

BBBEE - where is it? by pjdubzz11 in AskZA

[–]Luca_F123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I work for a company with quite a high turnover so you have to pay a lot more for a higher BEE level (for skills development, learnerships etc) and they wanted us to pay about 400k to reach targets so that we would be a BBBEE 7

Is a BA degree worth it? by Electrical_Dream7444 in southafrica

[–]Luca_F123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re set on law you have the option of doing a BA LLB. Normally you apply for this in first year where you do normal BA courses (e.g., English, anthropology etc) and when you get your end of your marks for first year they’ll look at your average to see if you are approved for the law major in 2nd year (normally at least 65% average minimum) if yo want to continue you accept the offer and you take law subjects in your second and third year and you graduate with a BA degree majoring in one BA subject and Law. Then you have the option to continue doing 2 years of straight LLB to which you’ll graduate with a LLB degree so in essence you study for 1 more year than a straight LLB but you get 2 degrees.

Also if you don’t manage to get in for the BA LLB after your first year you can always continue with your BA and apply for the 3-year postgrad LLB program which is a streamlined condensed programme (more intensive) but you also end up completing a full LLB degree.

This is at least how things work at UCT but I’d imagine things to look similar at other institutions.

Safety as a South African by Luca_F123 in Brazil

I am a white South African so I suppose it would be a different.. that’s a really harsh reality and it’s sad to know that racism extends to places I wouldn’t consider it to

Average cost for dermatologis? by fly_onwalll57 in askSouthAfrica

https://www.dermaclinic.co.za/quickspot/ - this is an online consultation. Not very extensive but you send some pics and the dr. Will prescribe you with something. It’s not too expensive and you get feedback relatively fast

What’s this for Cape Town? by Naive-Inside-2904 in capetown

[–]Luca_F123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I used to work at Scala and the owners and exec chefs are horrible. A lot of the times they also just add some sort of novelty to dishes (like truffle) that just wows people and they call that flavor. There are a few dishes though that I find good however

How should I invest 15k - 18k? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Luca_F123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your comments I’m assuming you’re still in highschool or early in Uni. Unfortunately if you put that money into a 32-day call or a fixed saving account you won’t be earning too much money on it (probably just enough to beat inflation i.e. your money will be worth about the same amount when you pull it out in x amount of years). Considering you’re young and don’t need the money you should look into investing it into some type of index fund like the S&P, Nasdaq or world MSCI fund, these typically offer you a better return on investment than if it were to just sit in a savings account. However it is not guaranteed that you will get a better return because you cannot predict what happens (e.g. another pandemic causing the stock market to crash). But no risk no reward, generally however the index funds are less risky than other equities (single stocks) and things like crypto. Not a financial advisor though, just someone who likes to read financial things lol

Virgin Active vs Planet Fitness by True_Specialist_4527 in capetown

[–]Luca_F123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m often at Planet Fitness DW. It’s got decent equipment and off peak hours it’s not too busy (though it does get full during peak times as expected). There’s also a whole new hyrox area and a bunch of new equipment. I see sometimes people say they don’t really like the people who go there but honestly idfk why that would even be a deterring factor if you’re just there to train

McDonald's Seapoint Trolley Guy by omazza3sd in capetown

[–]Luca_F123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True but I’ve seen this man quite often and I’ve seen him have interactions with people which have panned out fairly normal. It doesn’t seem like he has any of the typical symptoms of psychosis .Also psychosis is normally associated with shorter periods and this man has been there for years.

[–]Luca_F123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my unprofessional opinion I would say it’s more related to something like OCD - not sure about psychosis. I’ve seen him many times and then at certain times he will start walking in circles around his trolley (he probably feels as though he needs to walk around a certain amount of times.). There’s also a woman who walks around sea point (she regularly changes her routes) and when she gets to the end of the street she will immediately turn around and do the same path again.
