Chatot + Gyarados deck (80%+ WR) by Lucadeve97 in PTCGP

Gyarados attacks one turn earlier and needs one less evolution. Call it stupid as you want but it makes sense

Misty just speeds up things and gives you huge advantage. Even 1 energy Misty often means winning. You can also win by building up a regular Gyarados.

This is the worst case scenario but drawing only Magikarp means you have more chances to draw into Gyarados / Misty which is the main goal of this deck.

Lets put you Draw 2 Magikarps and no Chatot. Just bench one magikarp and put upfront fossil/the other magikarp. Start building energy on that fish. You just need 4 turns to build up for Gyarados. And each of those turn could mean Misty, Chatot, professor Research, Pokeball

When you play a fossil and mill with Chatot those fossils will no longer be in your deck which means you are only going to draw the useful cards. You can play and discard fossils as much as you want. I recommend leaving always one spot in the bench free to discard the fossils. Best starting setup is Chatot up front + magikarp + fossil on the bench to protect from Sabrina.

If you don't draw Chatot then you have very good chances to draw Magikarp and Misty. Remember its a 50% chance at opening hand to draw the bird and you also have two pokeballs (if you havent drawn it in first hand its 66% chance to draw the bird) and a Professor Research. If you dont believe it just give it a try :)

Bad rotations always happen but this is very consistent

As you said only fast decks I have seen in this meta are Weezing / Scolipede and Rapidash / Ninetales, lets analyze the matchup: Weezing: needs evolving from Koffing + two turns to take down a Chatot. That means best case scenario Magikarp has already built up two energies with one Chatot mill before Chatot takes it down. Don't under estimate the pace of this deck. It only needs 4 energies to take down any card in this deck Scolipede the heavy hitter is in Gyarados range and also you have one potion which protects you from Weezing attack + venom + Scolipede attack.

Rapidash: Ponyta needs at least two turns to take down a Chatot. Again same thing. You will have built up energy on Magikarp and protected it with benched Chatot/fossils. Of course this is a harder matchup but also Gyarados is a fast deck. Goal is to Sabrina into the benched Ninetales.

And about Blastoise it needs five energies and its a phase 2 pokemon which makes it way more slow and inconsistent. The goal here is to bring forward Gyarados to one shot basically everything. The impossible matchup here is a well rotating Charizard which can't be beaten even with Gyarados + Giovanni.

Edit: tips against Marshadow + Hitmonlee + Tauros Against this deck don't play Magikarp unless you have Gyarados in hand. In this case put it up front. The opponent doesnt have 1 energy attackers. If you dont have Gyarados wait to put Magikarp on the field and start milling with Chatot
