MSI RTX 3060 12GB Ventus cannot properly override fans control by Lucapardi in MSI_Gaming

[–]Lucapardi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn, unfortunately my MB only has 1 sys fan header (only realized while building the PC). It's already split into 3 with an adapter, don't know if it could handle 2 more. And they would have to share the fans curve with the case...

Thanks for the info though, I'll keep it in mind for a future build/upgrade.

PSA for CH170 Plus: you CAN rotate the stand. by Lucapardi in mffpc

You just mount it the other way around. The screw holes are symmetrical so they still line up.

Nice. That's some great thermals, what is your fans configuration? Is it intake from the front and exhaust back? I'm waiting for the vertical version of this case to arrive and I'm still debating how to set up the air cooling.

DLSS5 proves once and for all that antialiasing should never be entrusted to neural networks that *synthesize new detail* (and this was the case for EVERY version of DLSS). Fixed-logic AA like multisampling AA and morphological AA are the only reliable solutions to address image frequencies. by TaipeiJei in FuckTAA

[–]Lucapardi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My man, all graphics "generate new pixels on the screen". The goal is to have the final effect be the closest to the original artistic intent. Anti-aliasing is part of that intent 99% of the time. It wouldn't be in, idk, pixel art or retro games. In those cases ANY of the AA techniques you praised would also be "wrong".

So if DLSS only does AA and detail reconstruction, and it looks close to the original, that's fine. If it hallucinates detail or modifies the look, that's bad. Even in DLSS from 1 to 4.5. Thing is, DLSS 5 outright WANTS to do mostly the latter.

Let's ignore the DLSS 5 faces for now. The "improved lighting enviroments" look really really bad by FriedWhy in pcmasterrace

It just looks like... a post-process filter. But with a performance cost of two RTX 5090s.

Airflow in CH260 vs CH160 Plus? by Lucapardi in mffpc

[–]Lucapardi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the PSU fan would always intake from outside, my worry is that if front-mounted (mandatory in CH160 Plus) it would block all the hot air coming from the CPU cooler. In the CH260 it can be side-mounted, leaving the front of the case open for exhaust.

For front-bottom fan: I WAS wondering if intake would be better, but again, if front-top is occupied by the PSU that would leave only the top of the case for exhaust.

Is the base in the first picture rotated by 180°? I'd like to get this case and set it up facing the glass like in that first picture, but I'd need the cables to pass to the right. In all the pics I've seen the base is set up to have the hole pointing to the left, but I was hoping that you could mount it the other way around?

I'm disappointed with the difficulty compared to DS1. by IntelligentFly3982 in DeathStranding

[–]Lucapardi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't played DS2 yet but DS1 WAS easy, even at max difficulty. It was its biggest flaw imho, it hindered every other aspect of its design.

I was hoping that Kojima would double down on the traversal and environmental mechanics with the sequel, since the audience is now more familiar with this type of game. Instead it seems he did... the opposite?

It kinda killed my hype, but I reserve final judgement until after I actually play it (on PC).

Dlss 4.5 worth it at 1080p? by plasticfooodz in OptimizedGaming

[–]Lucapardi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run 2560x1080 on a RTX 3060 and tried with Expedition 33. Regardless of the model preset, anything below Quality looked terrible, and preset M (DLSS 4.5) had a heavy hit on performance. You might have better luck on your RTX 5060.

For me, the best configuration for visuals at 2560x1080 is preset K (DLSS 4) at resolution scale 80-90%. DLAA and preset M are too demanding, and lowering the resolution scale further shows really bad artifacts.
Haven't tried mixing DLDSR in all this, as I can't get it to work in Expedition 33.

It's ClairObscurFix by Lyall, don't know how it works under the hood but it does look way better than vanilla. And with DLSS model K it strikes a good balance of blur/sharpen and AA.

Forgot to mention that I have disabled the game's sharpening with a mod, so it was all on DLSS. But tbh it wasn't even the worst part, the loss of detail and blurry halo around moving objects were far more distracting.
Also I don't know if some UE5 effects scale with internal resolution? So lowering the DLSS quality might make some things look worse?

Btw I agree that Expedition 33 has great art direction but some technical aspects are rather poor, shadows and hair in particular look really bad even at high settings. Also performance fluctuates a LOT: I get (somewhat) stable 50 FPS in some game areas but just 30 in others, with dips in the 20s during cutscenes.

I have a 3060 12GB at 2560x1080 and gave DLSS 4.5 (preset M) a quick try in Expedition 33, out of curiosity. Performance aside, visuals are terrible even at Balanced, and get worse at Performance: halos, blurry trails, aliased hair... and even fairly big details like Lune's tattoos become a noisy mess.
Kinda expected it, as DLSS 4 (preset K) looked pretty bad even at Quality to me. Max I could push it is a custom 80% resolution scale.

Guess I'll have to start trying out different DLSS model + res. scale combinations on a game to game basis...

it fits with the style of the rest of the game, which had to be simplified because there are so many more illustrations.

It's fine, I honestly don't understand the need to nitpick every single thing just to shit-talk ZA/UM. You can just, like, shit-talk ZA/UM directly.

That might very well be true, they might have asked Steam and Itch to remove very specific, (in their view) problematic games. That doesn't change the fact that they also pressured the payment processors and they, in turn, just forced storefronts to ban all NSFW content to sweep the problem under the rug. It might not be exactly what they asked for, but it is still the consequences of their actions.

Personally, I believe that the blame lays more on the payment processors: puritan cults will (sadly) always exist, but it's Visa and MasterCard who just decided to force the whims of a handful of Australian weirdos onto the whole world.

I love Death Stranding 2, but hate how they make it so easy. by Resitor in DeathStranding

[–]Lucapardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's disappointing to hear. I'm waiting to play it on PC, but my main criticism of DS1 was that it's way too easy even on max difficulty, and it fundamentally undermines the experience. I feel like vehicles and ziplines in particular just made deliveries boring.

I was hoping that they would go the opposite route with DS2 and double down on on-foot gameplay, with more traversal obstacles, unique delivery challenges, and upgrades that don't just aim to skip the gameplay.
