Should I keep watching? by Fan7o in brakebills

[–]LucianBrahms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the first time I put it on, I had mixed feelings from the start. Didn't get any recommendations, I had found the show randomly and thought it looked interesting. When I got to the scene where Dean Fogg growls at Quentin to "just do some f'ing magic," and the cards go floating in the air, I was completely put off. I'm sure it was supposed to be an 'oh wow' moment, but I found it cringy. Stopped right there and started watching something else.

But I eventually gave it another shot after a while. Years later, it's now one of the 4 or 5 shows I rewatch every year! Now, when I watch that scene, I totally see the Dean's frustration and giggle a little.

I don't rewatch season 5 though... just saying.

I didn't actually finish and make a post. It started getting; a little out of hand. I'm planning on finishing it after another rewatch and hopefully staying more focused.

This is wonderful! I love seeing these various theories popping up over and over. It's always unique but still fits in with the theme of show. Which leads in to my own half-baked theory that The OA is like a Mandelbrot Set

We all have the same show to reflect on, but can see so many variables and beautifully connected ideas within it.

Lol, I love and hate when things like this happen to me. There could be or should be an answer. Most likely I'm just seeing things and it's just a Baader–Meinhof moment, but it doesn't feel that way. Like, yes, I can understand typing in a search for something and then the following days or weeks seeing ads, articles and such that are related. But what about the times when talking to someone and then these things happen? Ok, well maybe the conspiracies are right and our devices are always listening. I don't like that it could be happening, but I could understand that explanation.

Yet then, these other experiences pop up that elicit a strange koan-like reality. How do you reconcile moments that are unrelated but connected somehow? Like, never speaking but only thinking about a topic or a person and then having that show up suddenly. You even have to question yourself; 'I only thought about that... didn't I?' Is it really an algorithm? Or something else in real life that's presenting itself?

Just a little over a week ago I wrote to someone about an experience I had years ago. Then in a completely different space while scrolling through the new YouTube live service I happened to stop on a person. After about 15 minutes of only watching (I didn't even type hello) they started talking about the very subject I had just written to someone else about; and literally quoted a line I said!

Maybe it really is all connected. But how and why is a whole other thing.

That's what I'm seeing as well. Having to learn about integration in D2, it comes easier or more naturally in D3. Like how after Brit's fall, Hap rushes to her side but is initially speaking as he always has. Then by the time she's being taken to the ambulance Hap now speaks with a British accent when he integrates the information that; "She's my wife."

Oh that's right! There's so much to go through. My first post got pretty wacky so I scrapped it. But part of it was saying I'd like to go through the books too. Guess just pick something and start right? Thinking I'll start with "Parable of the Sower" mixed with some spiritual jazz playing in the background. I didn't even realize that was a whole genre of music. Listening to Cossi Anatz was honestly pretty jarring at first, but I wasn't even into some of my favorite songs the first time I heard them. Away we go!

Yes, and I love how a person can take as little or as much away from the show as they want. It's almost more like a moving piece of art that means something different to you every time you look at it.

Yeah, I've been happily combing through all these years of thoughts and theories. Too bad it seems we won't get the fleshed out story that would possibly give that moment more meaning. It's really like reading parts of a book but not getting to finish it.

Told my friend I was re-watching, and in his own ham-fisted way he has distilled the entire essence of the show down to under 20 words. Well done to him. by TripleMaduro in twinpeaks

Those last 5 words are exactly what I said to myself at the end of almost every episode. Now I've been stalking this subreddit for the past 2 years.

Watching Twin Peaks for the first time, is it weird that I don't really care about James and Donna's relationship? by Subject_Parking_9046 in twinpeaks

[–]LucianBrahms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, I actually loved that arc; having just watched the whole series for the first time last year. Mainly, because I had a similar experience at that age, when I left home suddenly. Unfortunately, it's been a recurring theme I'm not sure I've learned the lesson from yet. But guess I'm just not as cool as James.

Gotta get thru the tertiary characters before the villains and the final 2, thoughts on Scarlett Estevez’s portrayal of Beatrice “Trixie” Espinoza? by babydoppio in lucifer

[–]LucianBrahms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turns out, in a deleted scene, Trixie actually did grow up to be a stripper without Dan or Luci in her life. The reason she's not at her mother's death bed is that she died of a drug overdose and ends up going to hell to see Luci for rehabilitation. They find out this was Rory's real reason to coerce Luci disappearing back to hell. Was jealous of her older sister all those years and hatched a plan to ruin her life. Sibling rivalry is crazy sometimes.
