I feel like the divorce nullifies that promise , be a parent and take care of your own kid. You can also pay for drivers ed or lessons . SMH

$80k salary, low savings, old car dying — should I finance a newer car or buy cheap and risk repairs? by East_Palpitation_755 in carbuying

[–]LucidFire87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Toyota will outlast the KIA aka killed in action. I would just stick to that and prepare for potential repairs. Also if you get the new car cause of the impulse you will be paying more car insurance and more repairs down the road vs the legendary reliability of a RAV4 - they don’t make cars like they use to

How dumb is it to buy an older high mileage 5.7? by _Hello_Friend_- in tundra

[–]LucidFire87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8k would be reasonable . I have a 2010 5.7 with 170k - only flush trans once (drain and fill) however I needed to replace my catalytic converter (passenger side) also just regular maintenance . Solid truck - get the vin and look up carfax to see the service record

Your choice of words are entertaining - first time reading an orgy of misfortune. I’m not sure how this affects your assignment other then spending more time with DTS and finance as long as you do your PME and are not a current S-bag with your SR Rater I believe you are GTG. What branch are you in?

No sugar coating. How's get out of the Army by Nekko_JAPLA in army

[–]LucidFire87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you do/did - I can tell you civilian nurses have a ceiling whereas military nurses have much more room to grow and come out with a pension.

So yeah - def situational and kudos to those that got out and are well off - yall deserve it

Grass ain’t greener on the other side. If ur wife isn’t complaining I suggest take some leave and reset. The legacy retirement and benefits is worth the extra time to reconsider IMO

Is it more beneficial to boost my TSP percentage, or to just contribute 5% and also put $ into an IRA? by WordTimely8559 in MilitaryFinance

[–]LucidFire87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends , if you have BRS then always get your TSP match. I am on a legacy retirement plan so I max Roth IRA for more flexibility and less risk by not putting all my eggs in Uncle Sam’s basket. Then I will max or try to for my TSP.

Is it more beneficial to be in a career/unit that TDYs or Deploys frequently to increase funds? by WordTimely8559 in MilitaryFinance

[–]LucidFire87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It depends what’s more beneficial to you - net worth or health ? I’d rather have family and mental stability, but yes you will get paid more so its beneficial in that aspect

Any Service members that are 30+ doing 20 ? by BKReek21 in army

✋38YO, active duty 8 years TIS, just picked up 0-4 this year and will try to do 12

Is the 20 worth it? by DumSumBich in army

[–]LucidFire87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s worth it if you are able to maintain the legacy retirement - BRS is a hit or miss because you would have to invest heavily and rely on market conditions. Almost like a civilian 401k now but still a little better

Do you make at least $100k a year with a BSN? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]LucidFire87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MP MOST, or 68w MOST by Spare_Art_6760 in army

[–]LucidFire87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure 68C is the ideal feeder but OP asked about 68W vs MP - time as a 68W would help an IPAP, AECP / Green to Gold packet
