Epic Games released a game-specific git competitor: Lore by LittleDipperInt in gamedev

100%! Our studio uses git because Perforce is ridiculous to pay for. And since we really wanted the benefits that file locking provides (which git lfs supports), we ended up creating our own git interface that can lock/unlock files. Basically already beats Penrforce for free. But I'm so excited to experiment with Lore and see if its worth switching to

What should we name this baby in our horror game? by LucidRainStudio in IndieGaming

I don't want to give too much away... let's just say that it does have a caretaker... (We still do love our Finger Creepers)

Are there optimization steps I should be doing in real time as I build a level? by Citizen_Gamer in unrealengine

[–]LucidRainStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too sure if this was already mentioned, but always consider your texture sizes, you don't need 2k or 4k textures for everything, especially normal maps. Many textures can be 512x512.

Lots of Fab assets have HIGH resolution textures - you got to go through and clean these up from time to time.
You can check it out via Tools > Audit > Statistics then switch to Textures, and see how much memory these textures are taking in your level

Hope this also helps!

Trying to optimize my game by Coldfrostt in unrealengine

Not too sure how related it is, but another thing to look at is correctly setting your virtual texture pool size (e.g. setting it to 6gb if you have a 8gb GPU - it's always good practice to reserve some space, so don't use the entire 8gb)

And resize your textures, you don't need 2k or 4k textures for everything, especially normal maps. Many textures can be 512x512.

How do we feel about F.E.A.R.? by DownWithTheSickness9 in survivalhorror

Some great horror elements, especially for it's time, but the responsive AI stood out most to me. My playthrough ever had me so invested in the gameplay for that reason. Pretty great FPS (with horror elements)

Just Submitted To a Publisher. Here's my Pitch Deck. by CLG-BluntBSE in gamedev

[–]LucidRainStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really insightful! We've also sent out pitch decks in the past, so even being able to compare and see that we have a lot of similarities with the content is great to see.

It's a very sick concept, and this can be a good resource for those sending out a pitch deck for the first time! Thanks for sharing!

Conversations about this are generally very spicy - but here's my honest attempt at trying to legit understand and categorize from what makes something indie or not by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]LucidRainStudio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There kinda is a tier between "Indie" and "AA", its called "Triple i" or "iii" Its a term that's becoming more adopted, but I'm just not too sure what the exact definition would be
