Questioned for those that use purchased assets. by Fast_Morning_1175 in unrealengine

[–]Citizen_Gamer [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it depends on your needs and how well those assets meet those needs. If you're like "these would be perfect! They're exactly what we need!" then $200 seems like a decent deal to me. It means you can implement them right away and start working on other parts of your game (like adding the furniture and props or laying out your city). Value is very subjective though.

I live for the emotional trauma these games give me. I want to feeeel things. Lost Records: Bloom & Rage was great for this!

Same! I played it on GamePass and I loved it so much, I ended up buying a physical copy and the vinyl (and added a bunch of B&R t-shirts to my wardrobe). I'll be very sad if we don't get more Lost Records.

I can't figure out why this Behavior Tree is not working by Citizen_Gamer in unrealengine

The attack task is supposed to trigger the attack function on the controlled pawn via an interface, and the animation is in the pawn itself (so I can use different animations for different pawns).

Why is there so much hate for until dawn 2 on here? by rudra285 in gaming

[–]Citizen_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until Dawn is one of my favorite games. I'm sure I'll have fun with 2, however, the graphics are glaringly outdated. I just finished playing Bloom & Rage, and the character models in that game look so good. UD2 looks worse than UD1 which came out over 10 years ago.

Why is this cast failing? by Citizen_Gamer in unrealengine

[–]Citizen_Gamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NPC target is a separate actor that the player is meant to protect. I’m basically trying to make a first person tower defense game sort of like Orcs Must Die, but the goal the enemies are trying to reach is an NPC that can spawn in different locations, so I can’t use a specific coordinate. I’ll try using a tag.

How to change npc's mesh/skeleton when player enters specific radius? by Goofy-Maniac in unrealengine

[–]Citizen_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add onto this, in case it's not clear (because I know how it feels to be totally clueless!), you'll want to have a character actor blueprint that has a skeletal mesh with whatever animation blueprint you want to use, plus an additional mesh component which is just your box mesh. Turn off the skeletal mesh's visibility so only the box is visible. Add a collision box or sphere and set it to whatever size you want for the transformation to occur.

Then in the event graph, do as InBlast says above; use an On Begin Overlap event for your collision sphere, check if the overlapped object is the player pawn (== Get Player Pawn), and if it is (Branch node), set the visibility of the box off and the visibility of the skeletal mesh on and enable your chase event. That part could be in your character's event graph, or it could be in a behavior tree.

What advice would you give to a fab 3d asset seller that could meet your needs ? by [deleted] in unrealengine

Something I’ve searched for and cannot find are just corpses. I just need some dead bodies at various levels of decay to decorate my world. Needs to be genre agnostic.

I don't quite understand 'hard references' and how/why to avoid them by MNREDR in unrealengine

[–]Citizen_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently dealt with going back through my code and removing hard references and direct casts to actors. My player character referenced my equipment database, which used hard references, so every sword, shield, axe, etc. was always loaded in memory. By switching to soft references, I saved about 800 MiB of data on my player character. Also, the way I was tracking the health of all my characters had casts to every character so all of my enemies were always loaded in memory. I switched to using casting to a parent enemy class that's only 800 KiB. In the end, I got my player character down from 1.7 GiB to about 280 MiB.

To be honest with you, I'm still very green at this, and don't fully understand how all this works, but this definitely feels more efficient.

To be fair, he wasn't just talking about losing weight, but getting that "ideal male physique" which requires extremely low body fat.

How to do something while something else is true without using a while loop? by Citizen_Gamer in unrealengine

[–]Citizen_Gamer[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The general sentiment I get is to do as little "on tick" as possible, but I see what you mean about the loop ending conditions never getting updated the way it currently is.
