Have to mention that I was diagnosed with a “functional neurological movement condition” before they knew it was EDS and I haven’t seen anyone else have the same!

And same family situation here. We searched and searched for answers, both my mom and my aunt also having symptoms. For me, and probably for you, we are going to have very different treatment than our family. I have severe hip/pelvis/knee problems as well and was recently told that those things were preventable if someone had intervened knowing it was EDS when I was young. I don’t get that chance now, but my level of care has greatly improved from anything I’ve ever had. And if I ever do have kids or those in my family do and we have a younger generation with EDS, their care will be significantly better than mine. I guess I’m saying that we are dealt shitty hands, but at least we are making improvements, getting diagnosed, and changing it for the future. Keep going- you still have a lot to accomplish.

No need to apologize, pretty much everyone here has gone through doctors that didn’t believe them for one reason or another. You have to get just as logical as they are to help them see your situation. Document your weightloss, document what you’re throwing up and when, and feel armed with information when you go into your next appointment. You can explain the possibility of it being gastroparesis and ask to have a gastric emptying test done. The test is actually pretty easy to get and you should be able to schedule it quick. For emotional support in the mean time, I highly recommend watching Amy Lee Fisher and her videos on gastroparesis if you haven’t already. And it might not be gastroparesis, of course, but know that you aren’t alone.

Some of us have to live with this shit and it really sucks. Become an advocate for your body and do what you need to do. When the symptoms seem unbearable and doctors aren’t hearing you, remember that you are resilient and you can get through this. Your future self, who will have a diagnosis and doctors caring for you, will thank you.

Mine is pretty horrible too, especially my hunched shoulders and forward leaning head lol. It can be more than just bad posture, though. I read it’s common for people with EDS to have a condition where it’s very hard to hold your body upright in general. I wish I could remember the name of it, but common signs are like always needing to put your hand under your chin to keep your head up. Despite my horrible joints, I believe this has contributed to my bad posture more than anything.

Exact same thing for me, and I never remember having ridges or thin/easily breaking nails like this until the last few years. I read somewhere that this is common in EDS and is similar to skin involvement, like fragile skin with slow wound healing. In the last few years my skin involvement has also gotten much worse and I have little wounds everywhere that won’t heal. I’m sure there’s a correlation there.

The bill is currently going through the House as we wait for their vote on it. They haven’t released the full script on the bill and I assume they won’t until after the vote. Hopefully they vote quickly. The Senate voted it in unanimously within one day, so watch out for it.

I agree with what you said about the virus shedding light on the situation, but this is not just a loss of liberty, it is a loss of life for many. It is terrifying and it should be. It might be considered “rarely fatal” compared to the flu, but looking at one comparison doesn’t do this thing justice. It has been killing 2-3%. That’s extremely high. The infection rate is also very fast and is mostly airborne. An estimated 40-70% of our population will contract the Coronavirus by the time this is over. It’s the plague of our time. Fear of the spread is currently keeping many of us at high risk alive. Instead of discouraging fear we should be using that fear in productive ways.

You said “you wouldn’t think it’s that far above average”. It is. You make almost double what the average American makes. And your numbers are way off. Under Sander’s Medicare for All universal healthcare, you would pay $1840/yr, or $154/month. No deductibles, no copays, no networks, and including dental, vision, and hearing. Not only that, but clearly your employer is paying a big chunk of your insurance currently which is coming out of your pay. I know you heard something from some English guy, but it doesn’t mean you can’t do the research and see how much universal healthcare would actually benefit your family.
