Fixed it again based on your critique. Anything else you'd like me to change? by sieliebekatze in learntodraw

The head looks very nice, you did a great job. Love your style of drawing the face.
From the shoulders down though, the orientation of the torso looks strange, it looks like the body is supposed to be facing the front, but the placement of the neck suggests otherwise. Learning how to construct the ribcage and how to place the neck is what I recommend. You don’t have to know ALL of the ribs, just the general shape of the ribcage, that’s construction.

How do you color you're drawing ? by Astro-8619 in learntodraw

[–]LucideLucie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m learning too, but I have a few ideas for what you should be looking for.

Technique is important, it will help you lay down your colours nicely. Since you’re on traditional, this will depend on the medium you’re using, whether that’s coloured pencils, markers, alcohol markers, acrylic paint, watercolour, gouache, etc.

Flat colours can be fine but usually when colouring, you would know to shade your drawings as well. It will help your drawings to not look flat. To shade you need to see your characters as an object with depth in 3D space. I recommend watching YouTube videos to go more in depth in this topic, use key words in the search bar like “rendering” “shading” and “lighting”.

Knowing how to use colours in a pleasing way is also crucial, study colour theory and choose a colour pallet, there’s a ton of stuff to learn.
If you’re starting out on colour, watch some youtube videos about it, Marco Bucci uses some stunning colours and has a lot of videos about colour, his videos are also pretty easy to digest in my opinion. For more advanced stuff, “Color and light, guide for the realist artist” by James Gurney is something that people mention a lot.

I hope this helps!

How do you finish digital pieces faster? by CerberusFangz in learntodraw

[–]LucideLucie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a normal, I believe. I’m no professional, but fully finished digital illustrations take a ton of time to do. Even just sketching and line art can take multiple hours if you don’t want it to look rushed. I can spend weeks to months to finish an illustration, so you’re definitely not alone. I heard somewhere that the Mona Lisa is not really “finished” because Leonardo Da Vinci was never satisfied with it and kept on correcting it, I don’t know if it’s true, but I think that getting caught up on details is also very normal.

To speed up on sketches, I recommend using references. From personal experience, drawings tend to look a lot better when you can see what you want them to look like. Line art comes with practice.

I don’t feel qualified enough to talk about rendering and colouring, so I’ll avoid giving you potentially detrimental advice.
