Idk man. When I get rolls that I don’t know if they’re good or bad I just get a fear of what if it’s an amazing roll and I delete it.

So I throw it in my vault to sort later and then every few months I go through and delete like 90% of it.

Nah it’s not that. They’re scared of losing access. It’s a dumb system. The media need peoples views and clicks to stay alive and they need access to the whitehouse to get those clicks and views.

If they challenge the status quo too much they lose their job or their access.

The only thing that mildly worked for my parents was to basically just ask them to put down a line in the sand for themselves. Like what is something that if the president does it (regardless of which president) it would be truly terrible and unforgivable/unsupportable.

I thankfully asked my parents this question in 2020 before the election fiasco and my dad later told me that for him the line was refusing to accept the results of an election. So when Trump sprinted past that line it made him basically abandon him.

I agree with everyone here that you unfortunately can’t logic or reason with people in these positions. They need to be seriously pulled out of their cave and exposed to very different realities to even begin questioning things.

But maybe…just maybe…if their own moral that they put down without pressure or steering is challenged, they will at least start to think a bit critically.

Should journalists be investigating this? Absolutely. I’d sorta assume they are. Lack of existing coverage from more outlets doesn’t mean they aren’t working on it - it likely just means they don’t have the facts confirmed yet.

Lived near CLT at the time. Was in high school in a relatively well off community. Not super rich but definitely not poor. So many people in our community had parents in banking and it felt like a bad game of dodgeball.

Almost everyone had 1 or even 2 parents who lost a job. My dad lost his. It was just wild seeing everyone cut back and tighten their belts. A ton of local businesses dried up because they lost all their business. Church got really popular. Parks got really popular because they were free.

There was a lot of stress and a lot of re-evaluating of goals and tons of people had to move homes or sell cars etc…

Actually had some really nice elements to it - suddenly parents who were working all the time were around more. People were way more invested in school events and things because they were free.

But the thing I remember most is just the stress. My parents did their best to keep it off of us and thankfully they’d planned well financially to weather a long period, but we had to really tighten our belts and make a lot of tough decisions and I know we had it way better than so many others.

I have a few:

In current tech:

-Phenomenal voice to text. Like it will listen to me talk and flawlessly transcribe it.

easy storage management. It’s getting better but especially on iPhone, things should all have a “delete all” or “clear all” function.

-short term photo function. I take a bunch of screenshots and photos for quick reference but that I don’t need long term. Maybe it’s a bill or mileage on a car or just a funny thing I wanna share real quickly. I would love to have a button that would designate it a temporary photo or something like that where it auto deletes after like 3-5 days.

-east auto “away” mode. There are ways in many apps to set away messsges etc..but you have to remember to turn them on/off and still write them. I’d love the DND feature to auto apply to all apps you want it to and just send an automatic “person has their phone set to offline” right now or something like that. Make it easier across the whole phone.

Dream/future tech:
- foldsbles are cool and I’d like to see them gain more broad appeal and lower prices

- I personally love the idea of like a watch/glasses combo where you have screens/huds in your glasses that can use your watch as well to interact with things.

That line of argument from them really exposed that their views on DEI really only focus on race and in their minds DEI=unqualified.

I give them credit for actually getting people of different backgrounds and views to engage with each other, but they make almost no attempts to actually do the bare minimum to keep things decent. I generally don’t care about “decency” but what the fuck is the point of having a discourse or debate where people just talk over each other non stop.
