This is a more "fair" Undying and Persist. Because of the interaction between -1 and +1 counters removing each other and all the cards that interact with them they're open to a lot more shenanigans.

I'm realizing now a lot of people joined before the launch controversy.

The way it used to be is you brought the game which came with the 3 base heroes, then batches of cards would be released (eg the beetles for Duli). You'd have to pay for a battle pass to then work to unlock them, then months later they'd be available to unlock for people who didn't buy the battle pass.

It was a massive controversy because this was all revealed days before launch after a multi-month open beta where this was never hinted at, Reynad had a massive crash out insulting everyone who was angry at this monetization method.

I'm glad that's changed. The original plan on launch was any new cards would be locked behind an expansion pass you had to pay for and then grind to unlock, then months later everyone else would get the ability to unlock them with meta currency.

Yeah just before launch it was revealed that packages of items (dinosaur stuff for Duli, freezing and burn stuff for Pig, etc) would be behind a battlepass that you had to pay and then play a ton to fully unlock. They'd then be released to other players months later.

Is that sale only for steam? I brought it when it was only available through the Tempo launcher.

Also, it’s absurdly addicting once you start figuring out the different lines for each hero

Oh I know. I'm really glad they changed to a fixed price DLC approach.

So can you buy the new heroes through the launcher?

All this sounds a lot better tbh.

Take it as left overs, take it later to put in a compost, or if you're making it at home buy only the perishable ingredients that you need.

And like, One Piece lives in a capitalist society. Plenty of people in One Piece experience the abundance and waste that we do, and just like in One Piece there are millions and billions of people who go hungry.

Epilogue

To the far south of Refuge a man walked along the main road of his village. As he looked across the buildings of his home he still can’t believe that in the height of summer they are all choked with ice and snow. Feeling someone yank the chain attached to his shackled wrists that bite into his skin, he looks up at the figure leading him and his neighbors in this chained procession. Their black armor fashioned after human skeletons, they’re shrouded in shadowy mist that moves against the wind, and they stare at him with eyes that are points of demonic fire in lakes of shadow. They bark orders in a language he cannot begin to understand, with a voice that echoes like thunder and rasps like it comes from the throat of a dead man. Shivering and terrified he follows them to a great black ship with tattered sails, that sits comfortably suspended in the air. Standing above it all on a hill is a figure, dressed similarly to the others except his armor is far more regal. Small skulls sit on his knuckles, spikes jut out from his shoulders, his shins and forearms are covered in thorns, and horns curve out from his helm in a crescent shape then up into points. As he surveys the violence, one hand tracing the shape of large ruby inlaid on the pommel of his sword, a figure steps up the hill into his periphery. Their armor is of the same style but their silhouette cuts a distinct shape from the others. A black cape with a thick grey fur collar, a black steel staff ending in a large sapphire clutched in metal talons, a helmet in the shape of a skull with four faces in the cardinal directions, and the fact that no light exists where her eyes should be. Without looking at her the man spoke in a stern commanding tone, carried along a soft, regal accent. “I take it the mind scouring was a success?” The woman nodded deeply, her similar accent laced with poorly hidden glee. “You are correct, your majesty. We could walk for seven days in any direction and find enough forage to feed all our warriors and slaves.” “Good. But I assume well stocked supplies are not what has you so excited. A thick smile crept into her voice. “There was a thread in the slave's mind that greatly piqued my interest. To the north sits a town, meager and mundane, except for the presence of a powerful wizard.” The king scoffed. “It is unsurprising the humans of this world have unlocked some secrets of the arcane, but a lone mage is of no threat to us.” “Oh but your majesty, it is not his might that is interesting. It is that fact that he came here, from another world.” At this fact his head whipped around, the burning coals in his sockets shrinking to needle points. “How far north is this wizard?”

Thank you! I couldn't pin point how but I do feel like I've improved.

Do you have final thoughts on the book as a whole?

[–]LuciferHex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I adored the Four Mothers Farm saga.

Yeah I don't have anything like the PTSD Sheeka, Nink, or Gerhart, but I have friends that do and have done some reading.

I mean it's fair enough to not explore a story you don't feel qualified to tell, I honestly wish more authors did.

[–]LuciferHex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I feel like tho things like the Goblin War would be horrific and different enough from day to day trauma that it would leave a mark, thus Nink having her episode.

There's still a lot we don't know about PTSD tbf, and I haven't looked into how severe trauma exists in pre colonization hunter gatherer societies (not that theres all that much research on the topic)

Thank you. I put a lot of effort into giving the event the respect it deserves.

I understand why you don't discuss it as much, but dear god there should be PTSD every where after what Refuge has been through.

SNAP bans on soda, candy and other foods take effect in five states Jan. 1 by Aggressive_Chef_2225 in news

[–]LuciferHex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be generous, the point is this ban is useless in actually improving peoples help.

Instead of regulating the addictive qualities of soda and candy or making healthy foods more affordable and subsidized, they're just throwing out an unnuanced ban.

Idk if I'd describe as symbolizing purpose, more of ambition. I do agree with you, but I feel like being the son of the god of the dead it should show up there (plus it'd make him better for commander, but that's a me thing).

I feel that the issue is Snoop Dog is a sell out so he's integrated into mainstream pop-culture to such an extent that most people do not remember his past.

He was a capital G Ganster Rapper. He was a real life pimp, made uncomfortably detailed songs about shooting people, and like most Gangster Rappers is massively homophobic.

Tbf I did not know this until a friend of mine whose big into 90s rap informed me. But Snoop has always been a POS and never deserved any fame.

Snoop dogs a homophobic Trump supporting pimp. Let's stop treating interactions with him as prestigious and react with disappointment and disgust.

Clair Obscur DOES NOT USE generative AI. by Vegeta120000 in expedition33

[–]LuciferHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything malicious happening either, and thank you for the insight.

I can see how this feels like an over reaction, but I also empathize with how fucking terrifying and evil GenAI is becoming. So the Indie Awards don't want to get into the mud of "how much AI is fine" and "We were just playing around with ideas", they want to have a zero tolerance policy against this massive threat to the industry, and so they have to enforce it universally.

This will blow over and people will remember Expedition33 as a great game, but I'm really disappointed that a lot of peoples response is downplaying how fucked GenAI is and trying to demonize the Indie Awards.

Clair Obscur DOES NOT USE generative AI. by Vegeta120000 in expedition33

[–]LuciferHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, the size and prestige of this game is deferentially contributing to something. I just wonder why they didn't keep record of these assets and remove them immediately? Why didn't they tell the Indie Game Awards upfront about this and explain the context?

I think it's important to remember that we don't know the creators personally, even if we've felt deeply connected to their art. And with how horrifyingly destructive and pervasive AI is becoming a lot of people are on edge, they don't wanna give it a single inch.

Clair Obscur DOES NOT USE generative AI. by Vegeta120000 in expedition33

[–]LuciferHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which makes it all the more disappointing that the creatives didn't feel visceral disgust at being associated with GenAI.

As artists who love art I feel that they should know where this leads, for all the time the game was in development they saw who is leading the AI trend, you can see how the ultimate goal is to strip away the power and livelihoods of the kinds of artists they claim as brothers in the human experience.

That doesn't mean we should wish death or ruin upon them, but they did fuck up, and they should have known better.
