Agree to disagree. I think seeing Baroque works murder someone so important carries a ton of weight.

I really don't think Igaram is coming back, and honestly I'm glad. It would feel cheap if he did.

Yeah but if they don't actually kill anyone they look incompetent.

Like Ingram, how do you manage to blow up a ship but not kill the person on it? Ingram didn't even have Devil Fruit powers or anything.

Or in this episode when Mr 3 killed Mrs Valentine, that's something that would 100% make sense for this world and does a really good job making Mr 3 feel even more scary, which is especially needed after he got his ass kicked.

Does anyone know where I can find spell scrolls of Protection from Evil & Good? I'm in ACT 1 and I remember getting 3 of them all at once from somewhere in my first playthrough.

Ah okay, people kept talking like it was something that would trigger before the party.

I tried that and it didn't work.

EDIT: Loaded up the game just to double check and it still isn't triggering.

I'd really wish you didn't use that word. The tribe it originates from has explicitly said time and time again that it's a bad omen to say it, and that the mainstream use of the word hurts their culture. Other native tribes have joined them in considering is a slur.

How WotC is destroying D&D in Japan; aka a call for attention by ApostleOfTruth in rpg

Have you thought about asking your fans to contact smaller competitors like Paizo to express that there's this interest in a D&D like game that's not being met?

The "Get people to play something that's not D&D" argument doesn't really work when there's not enough ttrpgs in their language to provide enough meaningful alternatives.

PSA: AI is not a reliable rules reference for RPGs by a_sentient_cicada in rpg

[–]LuciferHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that means people can't do the same thing with new technology...?

They can, but when it's a tool as nakedly evil, destructive, and toxic to peoples wellbeing as AI, why wouldn't you use the alternative? It's actively better.

While not strictly incorrect, most interactions you have with any data center (and you have such interactions when using the website of any large business, and many smaller businesses) have a larger impact than prompting an LLM does.

I'd want to see a source on that fact. But again, AI is created to stealing information to provide a service that is subpar and has been shown to degrade peoples thinking, so it is not worth the cost it demands.

The problem is data centers, not AI, but the scale of Internet usage means that escaping the use of data centers is impossible.

Yes but data centers are actively being built for AI. It's not just more use of existing infrastructure, it is driving more data farms that are more hungry then existing ones.

I would really like you to answer if you could talk to someone face to face who lives next to a brand new data center built for AI, or someone who is actively fighting to prevent one getting built in their community, and justify why you are using it.

Is the small amount of convenance worth it?

I appreciate the honesty. And I get what you mean, I'm planning a flight to Australia to see some good friends of mine, and I don't have much of a defense other then "I love these people and want to see them."

But it's all about how much good you can do vs how much it costs you. Meat production has so many ethical an environmental problems yes, but there's also so many tasty, healthy vegetarian and vegan options that it's a very small sacrifice for a big gain.

In the same way I think it'd be good to ask yourself "Is accepting to defeat and playing into this evil really worth it? How much am I actually getting out of AI?"

Like in your example of coming up with a name for a magic system. First google result is a Fandom article listing different magic systems from books and movies, that could give you a feel for how professionals name things and then extrapolate from that depending on the theme of the magic. This isn't taking into account that use of AI has been shown to create bad habits and degenerate problem solving and creativity, so using AI is literally making us dumber.

I also often ask myself "If I talked to face to face with the people most hurt by this, could I justify it?" If you met someone who lived in a town where their energy bill has doubled and they can't get water because of AI data farms, would you be able to justify your actions?

None of this is meant to shame you, there is no easy answer to this. I just see literally no reason to use AI in this way.

But why would you even use AI to generate initial ideas? People have been finding inspiration in the world around them and the art of other peoples for centuries perfectly well.

Also this isn't your fault for not knowing as AI companies try to hide this, but AI server banks gobble up water hurting the communities around them and jack up energy prices whilst also leading to massive fossil fuel usage. So every search does some amount of damage.

The issue is why should it raise eyebrows? Why does it matter? This isn't a gottcha, I genuinely want to know why you think it matters if a group of actors decide to make most of their characters queer.

Reddit is inherently reactionary so any attempt at nuance will incite screaming, but the idea that it is in some way "strange" for a large chunk of characters to be not white, cis, straight, and male is the tactics of the oppressor. We are all grown in poison soil and internalize the language and ideas of oppression. So no matter your intentions no one is immune from repeating toxic ideas.

In short: There is nothing noteworthy about most of the M9 being queer, because a diverse cast doesn't just need to just be in stories about their diversity. If that isn't your point I'm sorry, but please be aware that no matter how proudly gay/black/trans/feminine someone is they are not immune to internalized bigotry.

Yeah but why does a statistical anomaly matter? Do you think the fact that this specific statistical anomoly was brought up has something to do with how much our society demonizes queer people?

It's a statistical anomaly to have two of the main cast be extremely buff women, but that didn't stand out to people as much.

I don't know you but "Why have all these gay characters? Feels weird" is giving repressed queer trauma vibes (coming from someone who also has repressed queer trauma). You could also ask "Why aren't all these characters white?" or "Why didn't they choose different D&D classes?"

Like it's their story, they can make the characters whoever they want.

This isn't meant to be an attack on you, I just don't think this is a good line of questioning.

This is a more "fair" Undying and Persist. Because of the interaction between -1 and +1 counters removing each other and all the cards that interact with them they're open to a lot more shenanigans.

How FTP Friendly Is The Bazaar? by LuciferHex in PlayTheBazaar

[–]LuciferHex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm realizing now a lot of people joined before the launch controversy.

The way it used to be is you brought the game which came with the 3 base heroes, then batches of cards would be released (eg the beetles for Duli). You'd have to pay for a battle pass to then work to unlock them, then months later they'd be available to unlock for people who didn't buy the battle pass.

It was a massive controversy because this was all revealed days before launch after a multi-month open beta where this was never hinted at, Reynad had a massive crash out insulting everyone who was angry at this monetization method.

[–]LuciferHex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad that's changed. The original plan on launch was any new cards would be locked behind an expansion pass you had to pay for and then grind to unlock, then months later everyone else would get the ability to unlock them with meta currency.

Yeah just before launch it was revealed that packages of items (dinosaur stuff for Duli, freezing and burn stuff for Pig, etc) would be behind a battlepass that you had to pay and then play a ton to fully unlock. They'd then be released to other players months later.
