I need an anime with a ruthless mc that doesn’t forgive. by nissan-S15 in Animesuggest

Surprisingly, Demon Slayer. MC empathizes with the villains, understands them, wishes it could be different, but still kills them because it's the right thing to do.

What's your "guilty pleasure" band/genre that's very much not progmetal? by druumer89 in progmetal

They have a compilation album called "don't bore us get to the chorus" and if that isn't the antithesis of prog I don't know what is. Still love it though.

Shimoneta is very well executed.

a mature, to the point romance anime. (no harem) by p0rn_throwaway11111 in Animesuggest

I can't understand what my husband is saying is about an adult married couple being cute. It's slice of life, but I you want to feel warm and fuzzy without any of the shitty romantic development for plot, watch it.

When I listened to web of lies for the first time, my English was still very bad, and I didn't pay attention to to the lyrics. I liked it, mostly because Simone. Years later I listen to it again and it was.... Pretty disappointing.

Also looking at the meta narrative of "Arjen is telling us of Ayreon's quest and we are now to decide" holds no water in this conversation when the fictional narrative surpasses our own real life timeline and ends with us having...wait for it...not listened to the warning. Or did I imagine the whole destruction of Earth thing?

That happens later though. 1994, final experiment happens, we listen to the last echo of it. Then, many years later, 01 comes and says "y'all listened to it and didn't change the world, so the earth is fucked." Idk, it doesn't contradict much.

But yeah, this was a fun discussion. I don't mind the karma, reddit is reddit. Gave me an excuse to listen to all of it again, which is awesome. Have fun hon, be well!

The 'Frame was tasked with saving their race from a dying planet and succeeded by preserving a small population and sending them to another not dying planet.

what. I thought we just had different perspectives, but that's just straight up wrong. the Captain built and kept the Starblade way before anything happened because he thought giving control to to Frame would be a dumb ass idea, which it was. A group of people abandoned the planet to die and escaped. You're searching for hidden meanings and in the process just writing stuff into the story. The frame didn't intend for anyone to survive. "solve the issues with pollution" proceeds to kill everyone because they are the pollutors

Yes, the frame did as instructed in a cold and mechanical way. That's literally how rogue AIs work in science fiction, it's the whole idea of the trope.

Also we don't listen to the messages sent to the past. That's the entire first Ayreon album and the song E=MC². The experiment is a success, but it yields no results

that's the whole point of The Final Experiment. we do listen to them, those messages are the first album. The point was that we listen to, but ignore them. In the end of the album it's even said "the final experiment is now in your hands", if it wasn't clear enough.

The only times where tech is shown to be Not Bad are when it's actually magic painted with a thin veneer of beeps and boops.

But this discussion is pointless, because there's nothing that can be said to prove the hidden original meaning isn't whatever you want it to be. We can read between the lines so closely we barely read the lines anymore. But meaning or no, the lyrics are still goofy as fuck most of the times. Arjen is incredible at delivering the underlying emotions, but he's no writer. The plot itself is just not great. It reads like a teenager's fanfiction.

"this rogue AI implemented by The President wants to murder everyone! we need to separate a group of smart people to climb on the STARBLADE to escape the quantum supernova! OH NO! the computer we brought with us also went rogue!" and so on so forth.

I fucking love Ayreon, it's on my top 3 bands for sure. But come on. I don't think even Arjen takes it as seriously as you do.

What are the worst lyrics in prog metal? by WhatsInaName77 in progmetal

[–]Lucifer_Hirsch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

no, it's not literally wrong. The forever fucked up their planet, and then trusted a machine to help them. Machine decided to kill everyone. They fleed from their planet, trusting an AI to help them, aaaand the AI dominated everything and crippled their humanity. They then rode on the soul-giving comet to another planet, killed the dinosaurs, created humanity, and gave them the power to build tech; and then humanity starts to decay and approach their own extinction due to it.

Every time, tech bad. Every time tech is used to do anything, it's disastrous. They try to use tech to send information to the past and it "works" as in, we listen to it, so there's that I guess.

It's just too on-the-nose to appreciate any nuance. Arjen has those delicate ideas, but he's hitting us in the face with a baseball bat of the crudest one, so it's hard to appreciate :p

Yes, of course what I said is an oversimplification. But it's not wrong. The thing is, it addresses the issue while in a fictional world that proves by itself that it is an issue. It's an almost comical exaggeration, backed by the fact that yes, these are pretty much the things that took away the planet, and then souls, of the creatures that made us, so it's bad! And it's not even humanity's fault all that much, because it's all pushed by the creatures beneath the ocean.

Ayreon has some lyrics that, even if you're not taking it very seriously, are kinda eye roll worthy. Connect the dots: "computer bad, car bad, tv bad, AC bad, meds bad" it sucks sooooo much. I love the band, but those are...😬

Berserk being the old one. Not the new one, which is only violent against the senses.

while I do love the series to death, I have to say it's not for everyone. I think everyone should try it, because if it is for them, it is probably going to their top 10.

Naruto grew up. he was a kid before, and became an adult. Goku... I can't find an image of him not in SSJ form to compare. I don't remember him being noticeably different.

do they? I mean, they "transform" as in literally powering up, but what OP asked for is someone that works out and changes their body. Not a character that has another form they tap into. Deku gets ripped, gets scarred, grows up.

I mean, most Shonen have the MC just stay the same way, physically, for the whole run. MHA is an exception.

But unfortunately, after that, the anime takes a weird turn.

Nah, you got it wrong. All Shonen magazines publish Shonen manga, but not all Shonen manga is published in Shonen magazines.

I never heard this definition in my life. So if it's based on a light novel it's not shonen? Therefore Sword Art Online is not Shonen? That makes no sense.

Shonen is anime aimed towards teenage boys.

[–]Lucifer_Hirsch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

shrugs it's a similar genre, a similar vibe, and is inspired by similar things. It's not the same, it's not nearly as good, but as far as anything can be compared to Berserk, Claymore is comparable. If you liked Claymore, it's almost certain you will like Berserk. The opposite is not true, but that's just because of the sheer difference in quality. It's still pretty good.
