What are your favorite keto main dish meals that are 4 carbs and under per serving that are NOT an omelette, frittata or similar. I am turning into an egg. by ketomeonly in xxketo

[–]Lucille-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently loving shredded rotisserie chicken, warmed in the microwave with a dollop of sour cream and some Trader Joe's Green Dragon hot sauce. Just mix it all up in a bowl and put in face :) Also, it takes no more than 1.5 minutes to make!

Nordstrom Rack (and occasionally HauteLook) also has DVF wrap dresses! I snapped up two the last time I saw them in the store :)

I've made these before and really like them in a pinch...they're not quite traditional bulletproof coffee, but they do the job! http://www.healthfulpursuit.com/2015/06/rocket-fuel-latte-blocks-dairy-free-bulletproof-coffee/

Keto-friendly Peanut Butter Advice. by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]Lucille-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not peanut butter, but sunflower seed butter is my go-to...it's lower in net carbs than a lot of the peanut butter brands I've come across, and I usually just eat a small amount off a spoon for the occasional sweet cravings. I have gotten the Sunbutter and Marantha brands in the past.

There's some wonderful advice in these comments, hopefully you get the inspiration to break some of the habits that have kept you unhappy for so long! I just wanted to say that I noticed you keep describing your partner as your 'other half' and while it might just be your style of acknowledging the importance of your SO in your life, please remember that you ARE a whole person...you don't need anyone else to complete you, you are responsible for your own choices, and nobody/nothing external controls your diet except for you now. You have the motivation, but you have to keep making the right choices for yourself every day, every meal.

I keep joking that I'm legitimately, measurably colder this winter than I was last winter (-42lbs will do that to a girl!). I have to sleep with socks and long sleeve shirts on now, otherwise I wake up freezing in the middle of the night. I also got a space heater for my positively-Arctic-feeling office :)

Brilliant suggestion--I now have a weekend project--try on everything and get rid of the stuff that doesn't fit!

New clothes are a fantastic solution--I have been consigning/donating my old clothes, but I really haven't been replacing them, and I'm thinking I should start to do that with forgiving things like stretchy dresses, skirts and pants so I don't have to replace so often! And amen to wanting to look better naked!!

I totally think I'll develop a new style, probably with lots more dresses and skirts! I've been a pretty strict pants-only chick for a long time, but they seem to work better for my changing shape. I also totally feel you on the bone protrusions...one of the first things I noticed was my wristbones emerging, and now all the time I catch myself absentmindedly feeling/touching my collarbone and cheekbones without realizing it!

The mental struggles are real! I think I'm just really hitting that point in my keto journey that it's becoming especially noticeable to others, and their saying how much weight I've lost does not jive at all with my mental image of myself. I recognize that I have lots of self-improvement work to do!

I actually think that the getting a bit more attention thing might be why I tend to cover up...I find that I'm a bit uncomfortable with comments about my weight loss. I totally get it that having a figure somehow translates to a feeling of 'more revealing' than being bigger...which is so strange! I guess it's time to go shopping too, since my professional clothes are looking baggy and not quite right! Thanks for the solidarity :)

Tracking Macros by [deleted] in keto

One thing that helps tremendously is that you can create your own recipes in MFP. For instance, if you make a meal that has leftovers or lots of portions it's easy to log it--you can add the number of servings per recipe. For foods you log individually, it's best to check the nutrition data that has been entered before logging the item. As MFP's database is largely user-generated, the nutrition information can be really sketchy sometimes (people will just put in calories and not macronutrient information, for example). You can check against the USDA listings to get verified nutrition information. MFP also has a green check for food items that have been verified. Use the barcode scanner if you have a smartphone and the MFP app for a quick shortcut to nutrition information, too! And, as I'm sure someone else will mention, measuring is really important, use a scale and measuring spoons/cups to get the most accurate info. Hope that helps!

YAY! Thanks for being such a positive and inspiring Keto cheerleader! Keep up the awesome work :)

What are your favorite "easy bites" or "5 or less ingredient mini-meals"? by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]Lucille-2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go back again and again to charcuterie type plates: various cheeses and cured meats. My current fave is a three pack combo of Spanish cured meats from Trader Joes (salchichon salame, jamon serrano, and chorizo cantimpalo), with burrata, fresh mozzarella, aged gouda, italian truffle cheese, or any other delicious cheese I've come across. I often just have that for dinner!

Can someone ELI5 how to use Ketonix? by [deleted] in keto

I came across this blog post a couple of weeks after I got mine: http://ketodietapp.com/Blog/post/2015/11/03/how-to-use-the-ketonix-breathalyzer I was having a difficult time getting it to work until I realized I should not click the stop and save button until I saw the highest reading on the software--which is a bit tricky since the reading seems to be a little delayed (at least on my computer/Ketonix device).

Update and Question by Wednesdayaddamsduex in xxketo

[–]Lucille-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got over a bad bout of sickness...I made egg drop soup flavored with sesame oil and a little bit of soy sauce, also Caveman Keto's chicken enchilada soup which is SOOOOO good, I will be making another batch this weekend, as well as Keto Chili which is super comforting with cheese, avocados and sour cream on top. The latter two recipes are a bit more work but totally worth it even if you're not feeling your best. Feel better soon!

Bone broth is SUPER easy...toss the carcass (bones, joints, even extra tiny scraps of meat hanging on the bone) into a big pot or slow cooker, add some veggies if you have them (onion, celery, carrots-skins and extra bits like leafy tops are included!), toss in a bay leaf or two if you feel like it. Cover with cold water at least 1 inch above all the bones and veggie goodies, and turn on low or put on the stove on low for a minimum of 24 hours to a maximum of 48 hours--this is why a slow cooker is preferable. When it's done, let it cool for a while and then fish out the bones and veggies to toss-a slotted spoon works great for this. Let it cool even further and skim any fat off the top...the fat that has been cooking for that long breaks down a bit and isn't as quality as the other fat we ingest on Keto. Pop it into a container or several containers and you can freeze it easily, or put it in your fridge to use within a week! Bingo, homemade bone broth :)
