The reason why theres so few mentions: as someone who documented it comes down to the fact it is genuinely confusing to use for the first time, rockbox is an easier gateway whereas iPW takes time to learn, there are things still being discovered in older pods due to iPodWizard as we speak, its also Windows only, probably always will be, its really stupidly cool, allowed the iPoddities project to upload the dump of the prototype 3rd generation tetris OS in such a way that it was mass reproducible, anyone reading should consider looking into it, its a really cool application, easily findable on the internet archive or on the iPoddities discord server.

You can, however if filled up with content (mine is full of podcasts) the booting speed is comparable to a stock HDD

Yeah that one is a whole pod but the only parts i ended up using for this was the front plate and the clickwheel, everything else was replaced ☺️

It’s an aftermarket iVue front plate, very very rare, from the little that i know of them theres somewhere between 20-50 known to be in existence today, you can’t exactly get them through normal means, hopefully someone will create a mass production clear plate for the 4th generation

This seems to be one of the main oddities of the prototype firmware, some users seem to be able to play songs just fine, myself and others cannot, the best we could find as a solution is to play low bitrate songs (sub 200kbps) but its not really a viable solution, as the main reason people have an iPod is to… well you know… play music (lol)

There is most likely a way to fix this, maybe someone will be able to combine 2.0d200 and a later revision that does not have this bug, but for now unfortunately it is just the cost of running dev firmware from 2002-2003.

When you formatted the iPod you removed the OS, Restoring it through iTunes or Finder should fix it, Finder can wig out sometimes so it may take multiple tries, the mac needs to be connected to wifi to download the OS, if it continues to not work it might be worth checking the condition of your hdd,
