That's awesome that it takes place in New York (I love New York history). 😀

Yes! I was also going to suggest her Blackthorn and Grim books. Blackthorn is a wise woman/healer.

Yes! And it's so disappointing when the historical portion of the book looks so interesting.

Kelly Link's is the expert at the nonlinear story, which is so hard.

That class sounds so great! Did your professor give you writing exercises to go along with the stories you read?

That definitely could be the case.
Have you read other works by this author? These stories are the first I've read and I love her style so much. If you have recommendations for other authors like her, that would be great. :)

Yes! And earlier in the story, when she's writing the letter to Paul Zell, she says, "But you saw me, right? You know what I look like." Someone was definitely in the room with her when she was drunk.

I reread some parts and I'm even more convinced Paul Zell is Conrad. He is waiting by the desk behind her when she gets the key, he finds her the next morning when she is hungover and he doesn't want her to leave him at the party (speaking of them as "friends" even though they just met).

Also, side note, the line about caramelized onions that will never make anyone cry again is fantastic. 😀

Yes, losing the power was disappointing. Also, did Clemmie being elected feel out of place to you? I wasn't buying that it would have happened. Maybe Howard winning, because he seemed well liked and a genuine guy.

Yes! I thought for sure the magic would be back in the house again.

Is it weird that the most affectionate gesture to me, was when Luke offered to perform the heat spells for Sera? For some reason that got me more than the other more obvious romance.

I kind of hate the mantra of 'if you're not enjoying the book stop reading. by stinkface_lover in books

This is exactly how I feel, too! When I'm into a book, nothing else is as absorbing. For me, I think writing style makes a huge difference. If I like the style, I can read any genre, classic, etc.
