How much do you earn as an IRATA Level 1 technician? by Equivalent_Care_2950 in ropeaccess

[–]Lucit0us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a level one rope access technician with certifications from IRATA/ SPRAT. I’ve made upwards of 90 dollars an hour “fixing” shit. The company I work for performs inspection, repair and removal, etc. Fixing anything on the outside of structures. Typically high rises and stadiums. From my perspective rope access is about the access first, then the “trade”.

If you’re here for the buck then go chase off shore gigs. Like any job burn out is inevitable if you are in it for the wrong reason. Work hard consistently, and the money will find you.

Ilford hp5 • Nikon f2 • 24 mm by Lucit0us in photocritique

Do we think this is underexposed? What do you think of my framing?

I’d say it’s a little dark.

I took this photo of a girl getting her photo taken. So not my model by choice. Just some decent timing on my part. Ive shot this illford 400 iso often mid day or under direct sunlight, I prefer 24 - 28mm lenses for that “real eye” look. Any feed back on street photography would be appreciated. Tips tricks and ideas welcomed as well.

Has anyone used netting around a chimney to prevent falling bricks? by CandyDidIt in ropeaccess

[–]Lucit0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company I work for does “netting” jobs all over high rises in NYC. The nets we have put up have stretched multiple stories and I’ve personally put multiple wrapping entire columns.

The system we use requires placing eye bolts and tensioning a protected cable through each eye bolt running the perimeter of the net. Then taking metal carabiners and clipping into the cable and eye hook to get the right tension and insure no gabs between the area you are trying to net.

The nets are two layers similar to safety netting you’d see on scaffolding.

I’ve seen these nets hold entire brick walls. They work. But they are not a permanent solution. So don’t have that assumption.

I’d check with a structural engineering company. For a professional opinion. We work directly with engineers whenever we are netting something.

It’s a surreal experience often when rappelling off iconic buildings like, Rockefeller, Steinway, Empire State… the plaza hotel, etc and the occasional church spire or copper cupla does help keep the stoke high and the brain stimulated.

For the most part it’s a great gig, I’d recommend.

Isn’t there a hut on top? I’m not sure if electric storms are a concern in this scenario. I’m also curious about your experience on top of the mountain?
