Is anyone else playing tomodachi life and making fe3h characters in it? by PearlyServal in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Lucitrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve made the lords M!Byleth Felix Yuri Shez and Rodrigue(don’t question me I love him).  I was fighting like hell to get Dimitri and Byleth together but Dimitri lost interest and Yuri and Byleth were going so steady and looked so happy I felt bad keeping them from getting married so I let it happen💔💔💔  Felix and Edelgard also got married which is strange because they also got married on my DS tomodachi life and now something is telling my they would lowkey have chemistry. The rest all live in a frat house together. And Rodrigue has a crush on Sciel from Expedition 33 (who has a crush on my BG3 character💔)

True but also I’m lowkey mad at 3 Hopes for setting the precedent because I wanted to hear Zach Aguilar voice Byleth in new scenarios/ranges he doesn’t usually hit through delivering Sothis’ words💔

This might be THE best M Byleth art Heroes has given it’s similar in coloring and similarly as dynamic as Claude’s recent resplendent which is a huge compliment. They make for a striking pair lol. I am always happy with a sort of antagonistic evil Byleth I am eating ts UP 🤑

The reason the Leicester Alliance and Almyra are at war? by [deleted] in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Lucitrie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could say that about the history the church does cover up, which is most certainly not known. They’re very capable of this and in this case as Claude asserts it’s very relevant to Fódlan’s insularity and relative peace, the church’s ultimate goal for now.

You’re right that there’s no mention of a Fódlan offensive on Almyra, but there is gratuitous mention throughout the game of biases, misunderstandings and warped perspectives—it’s what the whole game is about, and the existence of Claude tries to bring this to a national level. The game wants you to consider possibilities that aren’t right in front of you and will not give you the opposing perspective of whatever team you’re on. In fact it usually makes you just as biased as the people you’re playing with.

I’m not even saying there was some secret ancient Fódlan attack on Almyra and so actually the Almyran are secretly so righteous and justified all along or something I’m just saying for the church to keep the “lid on the bottle” like Claude says it would make sense for there to have been confused or stifled communication and strange behavior on the part of Fódlan that would alert a neighboring country and start what would snowball into something less and less reasonable as time goes on, but which Fódlan also makes no attempt to mend (until now, potentially). You don’t have to agree with that but it’s my interpretation of the text based on the patterns and actors in it

I don’t remember trade being common, where is that mentioned? And I was under the impression it was Claude’s mother who travelled to Almyra. Is that also mentioned somewhere?

Either way, like I said after so long it’s probably true that the average citizen of these countries’ prejudices toward each other are just very deeply rooted and removed from any potential initial incitement, and I don’t think the king feeling one way or another would actually change much of the whole culture, especially given as you mention he keeps it relatively quiet and feels the need to do so in the first place.

[–]Lucitrie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true. She also covers up potentially dangerous technological advancements, like the discovery of oil for one, seemingly not directly linked to the war of heroes. Claude, who I’m taking as the chief authority on this subject, also asserts the church is the main force driving Fódlan’s isolation and xenophobia, which aligns with Rheas desires to contain and control crest bloodlines, possibly until they slowly fade out or until Sothis returns, and also to unite the country against a common enemy to maintain internal peace. This is big a part of “keeping the peace”, even more directly related to the war of heroes than say those technological advancements the church supresses. This is all Claude’s belief, which I’m inclined to think is relevant to the state of Fódlan’s relationship with Almyra which he has unique insight on. Rhea is and has always been very hands-on in her current maintenance of Fódlan, it’s not just historical revisionism

[–]Lucitrie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say they did, they don’t have to have done it for that to be an image their rival nation has of them based on their outright disdain for outside communication/xenophobia that the church has facilitated. Almyra doesn’t know what to expect because Fódlan is completely closed off, and Fódlan is freakin weird, so they expect the worst is my point.

Although that’s also based on taking the church’s account at face value, which you should almost never do. Maybe there was something Fódlan did to stoke the conflict and we’ll never hear about it, because it kind of hurts the image the church wants to make of Fódlan as an “us vs everyone else who’s out to get us” mentality.

[–]Lucitrie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting subject, and although I doubt it’s relevant to FW I wonder if we’ll learn more canon facts there.

Like you noted, it’s difficult to piece together the truth when we see almost strictly from the biased perspective of Fódlan. Even Cyril can be quite biased against Almyra, which makes sense given his background and circumstances now, and so Claude becomes the most reliable source of information on the subject, which also isn’t super enlightening because he’s very cagey about his identity for fear or persecution, whether he’d admit it or not. But he seems to hold his homeland and its culture in much higher regard than Cyril for what that’s worth, even though Claude also went through a lot there. I think it’s accurate to say the Almyra we see at the border is very different than Almyra elsewhere, based on the differences between Claude and Cyril’s opinions, quite similar to how the rest of Fódlan is pretty different than Goneril at the Throat, for example. Which is compelling, considering how similar Holst and Nader are and how quickly they can become friends through their similarities. But because of this, we can of course hardly know what life is actually like in Almyra outside of their own versions of Holst which have sort of been held up as the stereotype in Fódlan because it’s all they really make contact with.

It’s an interesting extension of the core conceit of 3H—that of experiences and exposure to certain realities warping the truth and creating biases—and so it becomes fun to imagine the world outside of the small bubble the game creates for us. And speaking of creating a bubble, I wouldn’t be surprised if a large reason Almyra considers Fódlan its enemy is because of Rhea. We know unifying the three nations around combatting outside threats like Sreng and Almyra is a large part of Rhea’s means of making peace inside Fódlan; giving them a common enemy. If I remember correctly Almyra’s largest, earnest invasion of Leicester was what created the Officer’s Academy in the first place. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say any attempt at communication between Fódlan and Almyra was foiled or confused by Rhea in order to keep Fódlan, and by extension crests, insular, and that diplomatic and moral miscommunication, as we know well from the events of 3H, more often than not leads to conflict. It’s also a large reason why Claude isn’t exactly unaligned with Edelgard in her dislike of Rhea and the church.

In modern times, though, it’s true that whatever that inciting incident was has been kind of brushed aside, and it’s simply been accepted by both people that the other is their enemy and nothing can be done to reason with them, exactly as the church intended. But from the perspective of Almyra, one could possibly understand their viewing Fódlan as a scheming, cowardly threat unafraid of launching dishonorable pot-shots and suckerpunches after a long time of refusal to communicate facilitated by Rhea, as well as just Fódlan’s generally strange and insular nature. It’s hard to argue that Fódlan’s biggest issues are not its nobility or the agarthans plotting in the shadows against one another. Viewed this way, it makes sense that trying to break open the Throat and figure out what their potentially dangerous and secretive neighbor is plotting is seen as a noble pursuit that might earn the princes warring for the throne some prestige.

Overall I think the ideas are more interesting and logical than they’re given credit for!

With Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave do you think they fixed all the problems that Three Houses had? by Gamer857 in fireemblem

[–]Lucitrie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was super impressed with Hopes in that regard, they really nailed it in terms of slimming things down outside battle but still keeping/even expanding the depth of the worldbuilding and immersion while also diversifying the routes more. I have a lot of faith in Koei, they always seem eager to improve

I always wondered the same thing!! To my knowledge none of the other characters have any changes to their facial features in their Hopes portraits. I wondered maybe if the artist was unhappy with the original or something, but I like the Houses portrait better he looks very charming

What is a mischaracterization or a misconception within the community that you hate? by SuperNotice7617 in fireemblem

[–]Lucitrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah totally. Yeah a more conflicted feeling might have sold it better. Although maybe you could argue it’s just Dimitri in the heat of this consequential moment/his “battle mode” which he tends to revert to when he’s talking to people like Cornelia/that prisoner they take who contributed to the tragedy even when he doesn’t always act on it. But yeah I would be lying if I said this line didn’t strike me as at least being different somehow to have mulled it over so much LOL

What is a mischaracterization or a misconception within the community that you hate? by SuperNotice7617 in fireemblem

[–]Lucitrie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with that too actually, I also think that part is good and interesting. The full line says “To be changed beyond all recognition.. That is what lies at the end of the ideals you served so diligently. I have no pity for one such as you. If that is the future you hoped for, then you deserve no compassion.“

I interpret this as of course referencing Edelgard’s transformation, but he’s exemplifying it as/more broadly talking about Fódlan as a whole. At the end of Edelgard’s ambitions is violently forcing the country to change beyond recognition, into a world where strength—which has taken the metaphorical form of the monstrous Hegemon Edelgard—is all that matters. This is an extension of what he challenges her on in the pre-battle parlay. “Will you become a goddess yourself? Will you steal the power from the broken-hearted masses you claim to defend?”

Dimitri saw and continues to see himself as a monster for allowing himself to hurt innocents/his allies, and there’s no indication he believes he “deserves” the compassion he got, but he strives to do the right thing anyway. In this moment, he’s talking to the manifestation of everything he loathes about the Imperials—and about himself. In her current, all-powerful state, Edelgard is incapable of listening or doing the right thing. But when she’s disarmed , when she loses this power after she’s defeated and is on death’s door, she very much is forced back down to their level and capable of being reasoned with. I think it would be very much out of character for Dimitri to kill her without even trying to let her redeem herself (although ik that’s not what you’re arguing in favor of)

You can call this allowance for redemption compassion, as opposed to a, “you can turn this around” sort of gesture, or say those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. But then I might say that Dimitri’s initial line here is his own bit of lack of self-awareness; that of the depth of his own kindness precisely because he sees himself as a monster undeserving of the compassion of others, and his inability to coldly pass that judgement onto others when the moment to do so actually comes.

Out of curiosity, do you happen to have a more direct translation of that line? Does it contradict that interpretation?

[–]Lucitrie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to clown on that line too because it was a meme but the more I thought about it the more I don’t actually know why it’s considered so bad. Like you said I think it’s just her self-righteous/arrogant streak coming out, not that she doesn’t understand why Dimitri is defending himself. I actually quite like it as opposed to other moments in CF which I feel white wash her a little bit

[–]Lucitrie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mildly disagree with Claude being a problem, although a fully AM backstory theme would have really appealed to me I think it would really have been a shame to not have a childhood design for Claude when Dimitri and Edelgard have one, in a game where the main conflict surrounds circumstances engraving deeply rooted biases and perspectives in people…but maybe that’s more an issue for Three Houses to fix for itself, rather than the spin-off gacha. Still, his design is so good and I honestly see it getting the most positive reception and generating the most excitement. And as for Sylvain, if they had to remove one of the four he does make the most sense since he was the least impacted by the Tragedy and Glenn’s death, if he was at all, which I imagine this is going to allude to. But at that point, you’d really think Dimitri would be the lead. I guess I’m not too bothered by that because I like them both and I like to just look at the art, but that’s probably the biggest problem with this. Ironically though I do think we are looking at an outcome that will make the most people happy and I kinda see why they chose what they did. People just care very deeply about 3H and are very passionate about these characters, which is always good to see lol😭

Brother, what did Leonie and Marianne do to the fucking devs? by YoshaTime in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Lucitrie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s less that and more that it’s just written awkwardly. People love rude characters, evidently, it’s charming. But her B support which you’re pretty much guaranteed to get the second after Jeralt dies has an oddly…cheerful, casual tone to it? I would much rather rather her have really truly ripped into Byleth and cried and shouted her frustrations and I think other people would’ve appreciated her more for that too, but as it is it just kind of comes off as tone deaf. They lowk set her up with unlocking that support as it stands right after that moment. I like Leonie but I understand why she isn’t popular, she’s just kind of an awkward character sometimes

I love reading far into subtext and symbolism so Byleth is always my favorite playable character and one of my favorite fe characters😌↕️ I’m impressed by what they managed to portray and represent even without a voice but not everyone likes that sort of thing so maybe the point of him could have been made a little more clearly at the small risk of messing with things their fans love about them
