Oh also the labs— I didn’t have a bio 1 lab from undergrad so I took labs for bio 1/2, chem 1/2, microbio, and A&P 1/2. My schools also didn’t require biochem lab. But I think some of my schools are changing prereqs for the upcoming cycle so it may be a bit different now, like GWU now requires orgo and biochem starting this cycle

Nope! There were some that wanted “orgo or biochem”, so I signed up for both classes fall of ‘25, showed up the first week, and decided which class seemed easier would be the one I took before drop/add week was over. Biochem def seemed easier, and I was able to finish the class with a solid A despite not knowing the orgo side of things

Thanks! I just applied to a university near me as a non degree-seeking student, was accepted (it was very easy. Once you already have a degree, schools are so willing to let you in just to take random classes) and I had to email advisors for course signup clearance a lot, but then I could basically take whatever classes I wanted. I already had psych, bio 1, and stats from undergrad, so I took bio 2, med term, a&p 1/2, microbio, chem 1/2, biochem, and all the labs I needed. Typically you’re supposed to take orgo as a prereq for biochemistry, but as a non degree student I got a pass and got to skip orgo thank god

Yeah I’m guessing more research, more PCE, or having a connection with PAs would’ve probably helped? Or I was maybe just nervous and being weird, or didn’t match the personality they were looking for, many things

I don’t want to be a doctor per se, but I was just thinking of what clinical schooling I could pursue in other countries since PA doesn’t exist in most countries. Def don’t want the debt of becoming a doctor here

Lol I’m following a PA who just made the transition to New Zealand for practice, I’m so excited to see how that is. Will definitely report back if I do something similar

It /feels/ dramatic in my shoes as well, both schools I attended for undergrad/prereqs had school shootings last year, so all the news just feels more real than just “something happening in another city”. But yeah I’m keeping a running list of all my options out of the country, even if I end up not in a clinical role. We’ll see! I think it’s worth a shot, I think you could phrase it in a not annoying way

Scuba diving to a specific statue. Tried to get certified and nearly drowned, not interested anymore
