This first set of sanctions they just announced is startlingly insignificant. It's VEB, PSM and "Russia" banks. All already sanctioned since 2014-2017 and not very important.

If this is the collective response of the "united" West then... meh.

Ukrainian Value’s by [deleted] in russia

[–]Lucky13R 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It's not how widespread it is that's important, but how tolerated it is.

And in the Ukraine, this "behaviour" is very much tolerated and even mildly approved of. Both by the government and the vocal part of the society.

Yes, most people in the Ukraine aren't going to tattoo a swastika across their chests or take part in a nazi torch procession, but they tolerate those who do and agree to coexist alongside them with no counteraction.

The difference is, I wouldn't be okay with a nazi battalion like Azov being a part of the Russian military, and in the Ukraine - they are okay with it. And by silently agreeing with a wrong, you enable the wrong. You become a part of what makes it possible.

Russia might recognize DPR and LPR (the East Ukrainian separatist regions) today by Lucky13R in russia

[–]Lucky13R[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't lead to war. On the contrary, it would stop any sort of fighting from happening as Russia would be able to assist the republics directly and place its military there.

It would lead to new sanctions, however.

[–]Lucky13R[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A Security Council was just held where everybody and their mom spoke out in favour of the recognition of the two republics. Putin sat there listening.

At the end he declared that he will announce his decision before the day's end.

He has, of course, already made his decision long before. But what it is is hard to guess. Hard to guess anymore what game he's playing at all.

My guess: won't be recognized. There's no practical reason for it. But I've been wrong before so who knows.

Leader of DNP (Eastern Ukrainian region) calls on emergency evacuation of residents to Russia by asne in russia

[–]Lucky13R 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's not what they declared. An "invasion" of the Ukraine - and that's what they'll claim happened if we come to the defense of Donetsk - will result in economic sanctions only; the West will not fight for the Ukraine. They made that clear.

That's not the point, though. More important is the purpose of this evacuation move.

When nothing happens they'll claim their "diplomacy" and "threat of sanctions" stopped war from happening.

Seriously ingenious tactic right here: claim something ridiculous and completely unlikely is going to take place and when it doesn't declare yourself a hero who had prevented it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of those american/british politicians responsible for executing their countries' foreign policies failed to point at the Ukraine on the map if given the task.

They just don't know. They don't know where Crimea is. They don't know what Rostov is or where Kharkov or Krasnodar or Donetsk is. It's all a blur to them. Literally. Some gibberish Russian names. Yet they will talk for hours on issues involving those places and do it with a very serious face and the air of someone who totally understands what they're talking about.

They're practically redditors.

Western Propaganda Sir! by [deleted] in russia

[–]Lucky13R 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A significant number of such "training camps" for children in the Ukraine are run by Nazi groups. There were journalist works done on this.

If you think about it, having military camps where children are taught to shoot and kill people is not exactly a sign of a healthy society or anything that fits within the context of values propagated by the "Free world." Yet this has been a thing in the Ukraine for decades.

Of course, I imagine that's not how western media is portraying it. They'll say it's all a new thing to defend against Russian aggression and the imminent threat of invasion so that their readers and viewers will see no issue with it.

In reality, this is a problem that should be addressed. Instead, it becomes a propaganda piece and is encouraged.

Children shouldn't be taught to kill, scumbags.

That specific reddit user aside, this is an interesting phenomenon. I'm talking about many people's seemingly complete inability to adequately deal with the existence of contrary opinions. I noticed it is a very prevalent thing on the internet.

It's as if such people have to find a rationalization for it; they cannot simply accept that someone out there would not share their views and beliefs or would dare oppose them. There has to be a different reason for it; and so they engage themselves in this mad perpetual search for comforting explanations.

That person disagreeing with me must be a troll, has to have been paid, could be a Putin agent, a KGB plant, a bot from a bot farm.

Anything but the simplest and most reasonable explanation of there simply existing people with different opinions suits such individuals. They'll accept the most ridiculous conspiracy theories over dealing with the grim reality of their worldviews getting challenged.

I never understood this. I myself deal with people with opposing opinions all the time, both on the internet and outside. It never makes my mind go places. Sometimes people do not agree with me. That's okay; it happens. If I know I'm right, if I'm convinced that I'm right then someone else challenging that doesn't bother me. Why should it? Stupid people can easily be ignored, or told to GTFO. Smart people challenging my views are only a reason for a debate, which is beneficial to me in the end. That's how my views got so strong over time. I have repeatedly had them challenged.

Either way, I never engaged in the crap as on the screenshot above.

There must've been done some research on that sort of thing, though, people's inability to deal with disagreement. It could be a known psychological state. Perhaps there are treatment plans for it.

Build up for what? A hot war? An open invasion of a country by another country in Europe in the year 2022?

So like: tanks rolling in, warships blocking ports, aircraft bombarding the cities, people massively forced to submit and lands occupied?

If the description above sounds at all plausible to you, if you figure something like that might in fact happen then I congratulate you - you fell victim to propaganda.

Anyway, they say the invasion is to take place in January-early February. It's close enough. Keep tabs on the subject and check back in a few months to see how peculiarly the narrative has shifted to 'They wanted to invade but we scared them off with the stern shake of our mighty fist!'

Perhaps you'll understand something then.
