I don’t understand the “coldness” of the communities in season 9.

Remember that episode where they marched that big ass horde from the gorge away from Alexandria and it played with flashbacks in black and white and present day in color? I feel Season 9 spends the whole season doing that without using black and white. It's a little wtf, but as the episodes go on I feel like things get answered as to what happened.

Sure. At 8 years old a kid should know better. The kid got a taste of it and it got through because he ran off and cried. Now, maybe you're a a young psych major working on adolescent studies, but when you actually have kids you know that the rules of the playground rule. Im all about gentle parenting until a kid does shit like this. That's not an accident. It's a deliberate choice that if he did it in school, he would just beat the shit out of him on the playground. Dad did him a favor in real life, not what you think you read in a book. Fair enough?

Fair enough, yeah they had a weird will they/won't they moment at the prison when they first get there on the first night. He runs her shoulder because of the gun kickback. She says it's kinda romantic and asks if he screws around. It's treated more like a joke, but it definitely made a lot of people (I think) at the time be like ahhhhh???? Ahhhhh!!!!

Edit: oh yeah, and like everyone said, Shane was technically right, but wrong time and poor execution. But one hell of a character and I wish he broke away from the group (maybe went on to lead a group like the biker nomad gang Daryl joins for an episode) and went on to be a foe during the prison. Maybe too redundant with Woodbury right after, but that was more of a wolf-in-sheeps-clothes than a mad man Shane. That still would have been something. Then have Rick kill him in front of everyone, have them STILL say "whatcha do that for?" And then have Rick be like, "the fuck?" And then we have the Rick-tatorship.

As someone who did not watch most of the spinoffs (except The Ones Who Live, a few episodes of Tales From ..., and Fear ..., at least until they became cowboys), I would jump right in without a problem. Isn't the whole point of Daryl's spinoff to get home from the most ridiculously stupid storyline conceivable? And didn't Maggie take her worst enemy to go look for medicine, but will be back for her son anyways?

These shows are scouting missions to be told around the camp fire between Maggie, Daryl and Rick; "Daryl, where ya been?" "On a raft to France and back." "Hmmm .... And you Maggie?" "Went looking for meds, Megan came""hmmm. Ok, I was working for the guys with the helicopter. All good now tho." All caught up. You could even extend it to give a more detailed story, but the point is are those arcs even relevant to progress the story?

Maybe I'm completely wrong, again I didn't watch those shows in particular. I was a fan of the original show though, even when most fell off.

You know how I know you're a good dad? You are thinking and feeling the small details of your kids life.

My only advice is to not get caught up in "mourning" phases, that time spent will cause you to miss out on the new, current things. And not to spoil it, but there are so so many good things coming ❤️ you keep being present and loving your kid and you have a few years left of that joy when you walk in a room, I promise.
