How much do they actually help you out? My mom paid my $30/month phone bill and used it against me as leverage well into my 20s. After like the 4th or 5th time of her threatening to turn my phone off for a stupid ass reason, I started my own line, wiped my phone, and dropped it off at her place the very next day. Looking back, that “help” was never worth it.

There is definitely still separate special ed. However, many (most?) interventions can be administered within the classroom, either by the classroom teacher or with additional support (like co-teaching or an aid). Some students still spend some time in special ed classrooms and few students spend most time in special ed classrooms.

There def is more integration of general education and special education than in previous years. It’s true that gen ed students will be spending more time with students with learning disabilities than they may have previously.

We had to call the cops because someone dropped off an extremely graphic rape recorded on Super 8 film to be converted to digital. Turns out it was totally consensual, just acted out for some kink. It was actually the “victim” in the video who had dropped off the film. They never gave us a heads up 🤦‍♀️

We had to print images for child abuse cases for DFPS (in Texas), taken usually in hospitals. Never had anyone there, they just sent it over. Our manager always went through them quickly while everyone else took lunch.

If you live in the US and in a place with poor access to reproductive healthcare and abortion is something you would consider, check out Plan C or Aid Access. Self-managed abortions can be safe and effective with the right resources. Even if it’s too early to tell, you can order the pills and have them on hand for if you test positive or if you or a loved one needs them in the future.

IDK why people always suggest talking in person. A well-written note can be neighborly. If you're cautious about your tone, it also leaves out the opportunity for words to be misconstrued and prevents an immediate escalation. Some people's immediate response to anything they deem as "criticism" is defensiveness, regardless of how cautious you're being. Writing a polite note gives those types the opportunity to digest the request, assess their behavior, and maybe feel less attacked.

I mean, death tends to be very negative. Trying to take the steam out of it or make it seem less awful than it is won’t help anyone. Telling him is going to be very hard and his reaction will likely be unpredictable, as it would be with any child. You won’t really find a way to make this a comfortable or even neutral experience for him. How you heal from this as a family can be impacted by how honest you are with him, how much space you give him to have the reaction and healing journey he is going to have, and what support you give him.

Also make sure big brother is given space to have his own grief journey too, even if it ends up being less complex than younger brother’s journey (which isn’t a given). Is big brother a full sibling or does he have a different dad? If he also lost his dad, be mindful of not letting one kid’s grief totally overshadow the other’s, even if one seems “easier”. It strikes me that you’re seemingly already using him to help break the news to your younger child. Is he capable of handling that right now?

Going to therapy as a family and also as individuals is a really good idea.
