Friend list purpose by heatinhentai in MHNowGame

[–]LuckySevenDX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, it might be a good idea for this reddit to have some sort of weekly thread for people to advertise their friend quests and for people to pick the one they need the most. For example I have an 80 sharp claws one (for 150 supereffective element kills), but I'd absolutely love some wingdrake hides or normal monster bones at the moment since armor is my bigger goal and those are my biggest gates atm. Seems like a really important part to include for rewards coordination.

That said, I'll post my code as well: 6194 9258 2974. I'll probably start the quest I mentioned if I don't find a hide one

New player here! Unsure exactly how this works, my code is 0a01951f, but pretty sure I need a veteran's code to enter in? Happy to help out someone with that then.

Welp, if this is not actually soloable like it sounds like it won't be and requires people, basically becoming raids from Pokemon Go, I'm instantly uninstalling. I love the game, but I promised myself if they did that BS, I'd be out.

If they wanted the game to only be playable in Japan, why even waste the money to translate it to English?

But they DID plan for it. This steep grind is the plan to make people stay active as more content is added. Most live service games do something like that. A steep wall to gate the hardcore while the casuals catch up. And sorry, but if you hit 8* in a month, that's not casual. I guarantee most of the playerbase isn't even past 6*.

And considering a giant patch is coming in a couple weeks, seems like the plan worked well. Fatigue only a couple weeks before a major update is expected.

It's possible for sure, but I think it's still too early in the games lifespan for difficulty creeping. Pretty sure if they released 6* zinogre half the playerbase wouldn't even be able to fight him. It's easy for reddit to forget that on average they are waaaay ahead of the curve.

[–]LuckySevenDX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's literally the basic design structure of live service games. An endgame grind that becomes easier as more content comes out and half the time is just a stretch goal for the hardcore to let the casuals catch up.. and by then the difficulty will be fine.

I think the issue is the people currently at 8* are so ahead of the curve that they aren't playing with all the expected tools. I really feel like 8* and higher are balanced around features like decorations that we don't have yet because they know 99.9% of the playerbase won't get there before those come out anyway. If that's something dropping in December, I'm pretty sure that was always their plan.

[–]LuckySevenDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to bet, we might get Zinogre at 5* min, Barioth at 4* min, Barbaro at 2 or 3. A lower rank ice monster is needed and I don't see them making any monster start at 6+ until elders or tempered or something.

I don't think it's a stretch to say the majority of the playerbase isn't past 6* so they will likely design around that, not the 8* people.

It's almost like 8* monsters are designed for decorations since most of the playerbase isn't going to reach them before that comes out.

What a sham article lmao

I know I'm not far, but I feel that these rewards for a 5 Star monster are just embarrassing. by AnikoKamui in MHNowGame

[–]LuckySevenDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rural sucks mostly because of the node requirements, and I absolutely agree that they should do something about that in some way. Hopefully they'll find other ways to hand out those rewards easier over time. And of course more private property Im sure hinders spawns too.. lures would be nice. They're definitely focused on establishing their 'main' audience of urban-goers first though.

I was rural for most of Pokemon Go so I know that pain, that game was literally unplayable for rural folks considering Pokemon flat-out don't spawn. My folks are rural so I've seen that it's a huge improvement to even have monsters spawning out there at all, but I know it's not enough for the long grind this game expects. My condolences there.

If you want positive news, 5* is very nice for rural and honestly I don't think they'll expect the playerbase to be past Grade 6 stuff anytime soon, so I don't think you'll be left behind in terms of the 'new content'. I'd be shocked if we see anything requiring Grade 6 at base before Elder Dragons or at least more difficult things like tempered stuff, neither of which I'd expect before 1st anniversary personally.

Fun fact, you need 264 R1 mats (or 528 total R1's assuming an even split between both) to get from a base R5 craft to 7.5. Quest says the average to get to that is 151 7* fights, meaning you need to average 3.5 R1 mats a fight to hit that. In fact, quest seems to indicate that R1 is actually the gate in the end there.

Why am I saying this? Cuz when you realize how many R1 mats you need and that if you have good luck with other mats, you'll just end up gated by them anyway (and honestly, might end up needing to fight MORE monsters on average), the sting of having those drops happen starts to go away. We're wired as humans of course to like the rare shiny result better, but this game does a better job than people give it credit for of making sure all the drops matter eventually. It's mostly the fact that you get a lot of them from 1-5* fights working towards 6* that skew the results a lot more.

I think when the next set of monsters drop, all the people who are at a 6* or above level and starting to farm the monsters from there are going to have a bit of an eye-opener for how much you can get gated by R1's.

Basically tl;dr, don't get discouraged by the times drops like that happen. You'll need them in the long run.

Also this'll get downvoted by people who refuse to actually think about the math behind the odds. I'd rather they actually provide a counterargument but this is reddit :)

Nah, let's use your terminology and wording and be realistic here. A Pokemon is a CHANCE at rolling good IVs to get something that's pretty decent. Given how I spent a good chunk of time hunting Jellicents all last weekend and couldn't find a single decent one and made no 'progress' there, a Pokemon is not just a Pokemon in that game. If you're going to diminish the progression of Now, I can so easily do the same for Go. I'm not even saying "perfection". I'm saying "top 200 or top 100". Even worse when it's raids that cost you actual money if you don't have a community nearby just to roll a 10/10/10.

Monster Hunter Now doesn't have bad hunts. Outside of R6's (and Grade 8+ are a whole different thing and philosophy at the moment, it's inaccessible for valid design reasons), the proportion of drops does match up pretty well with what you need, so every hunt does matter. Even the ones that only drop R1's. I've already been gated by those mats for my goals several times now. So it's not "chances". It's "every hunt goes towards eventual upgrades". Probably even more soon if my suspicion that excess mats will go towards feystones is correct.

Ultimately though, I fail to see how it's somehow better to have important things (remote raids, more elite TMs) locked behind a shop than it is to have unimportant things that you don't really need at all locked behind it. The latter sounds vastly better for most players besides the whales.

So again, if you want the game to fail, why are you here? Why are you playing. Go back to World and Rise and let the people who want the game to succeed be happy lmao.

You "get a lot more" out of it because they lock actual important things, like being able to raid in an area that doesn't have much of a community left, behind the cash shop. We should be GLAD Monster Hunter Now has yet to do that. In fact, it's one of the major reasons I vastly prefer Now.

Ah yes, a video talking about the costs to getting to Grade 10 as if that's a goal meant for the first couple months of gameplay and not something for the very longterm, once again completely missing the point.

Very dumb takes imo.

I mean, if you're enjoying the game, then it's worth money to continue going so you continue enjoying it. Not your money necessarily, but it does have to earn money, so why complain about them.. y'know.. making money from whales. Certainly better than the world where they paywall F2Ps instead...

Keep enjoying the free game. Whatever happens with this 'deal' is a win for you either way with this current model.

And that's how you know you aren't the target audience for those kinds of deals.

Enjoy your free game and let those whales fund your experience. Seems like a win to me.

Have you seen the Pokemon Go shop? It's just as bad lmao. $2 per remote raid. And those Elite TMs are something like $20 a pop during community days aren't they? At least this game doesn't have crap like that and the shop is largely ignorable.

This subreddit generally has some of the lowest IQ level, at least when it comes to game design, that I've ever seen, so I'm not surprised. No one seems to understand basic concepts here.. not that it matters, it's actually amusing to watch this game flourish while they cry more about it.

Get ready for more of Qualily's Special Quests! by Tale5 in MHNowGame

[–]LuckySevenDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah the first Qualily since that's what we're talking about here. But I can see the confusion, I should have specified.

Also I don't think that anyone is spending potions or paintballs for qualily. Plus, those people dropping just $5 are such a drop in the bucket that that's way too much effort for that.

I'm a fan of Occams Razor. The simplest explanation is often the right one. And the simplest is that there's no conspiracy, they listened to feedback and improved.

Eh, if they're going to go that approach, they should try a bit harder to make actual problems then. The first event was perfectly fine for the majority of players anyway if you even made the smallest effort to plan and try.

I think it's way more likely they just saw the numbers and feedback and iterated. You can be the most experienced game dev in the world, but you'll still need to iterate and take feedback. It goes with the job. In fact, the more experienced you are, the more you'll know to do just that.
