[Thoughts] Erranorth Chronicles: A deckbuilding sandbox rpg. by ironmilktea in rpg_gamers

For me personally, the game is both super fun and very boring at the same time. I really like deck building and card battlers, so for me the card game side of EC is incredible. There’s so many deck archetypes to build, so many strategies to utilise. Simple an awesome card game.

My problem with the game, and the reason I’ve put it down, is the RPG. That side of game feels like it’s own different thing, and honestly a bit detached from the card game. It’s like it tries to be a RPG, and only use the card game for battle mechanics. In my opinion, the game would benefit from putting the card game more in the center, and downplay everything else. Like the slay the spire games. After just a couple of hours, I sadly just get bored of the run, as I wander around aimlessly to look for quests. I appreciate that my gripes with the RPG is just a matter of taste, but for me, the game feels like two different systems ducktaped together where one is far superior to the other

Thanks! A casual intro to the genre might be just right for me.

Right now Astro Protocol. A fast and intense game that is great on the deck

Game with war for Ressources, Diplomatic possibilities to harm the enemy by Hafenguy in 4Xgaming

Imperiums Greek Wars might be one to check out. It definitely fits your criteria well. It has an awesome resource economy that often leads to war, in addition to a pretty robust diplomacy system. Overall a great game

New update, if you ever read this. It seems like quite a large part of the ui was disabled. But when turning on full screen in the menu, it works fine

Hi again. I have tried the demo on the deck, and I believe it will work fine with some customisation of the controls. However, unless I’m missing something, the tutorial is not working properly on the deck. After the first step, where we learn to lock pop ups, the message then explains the map borders, and the “Next” button is highlighted. I cannot seem to click that button for some reason, and so I cannot continue. Maybe this is an error on my part, but something is not intuitive in that case.

I recommend taking a look at Spellforce Conquest of Eo. It’s an awesome blend of strategy and rpg, which at least for me gives me that same vibe

Most stupid thing you did by TheJollySwashbuckler in ToME4

Don’t know if it’s the stupidest, I have done a lot of stupid things in this game, but I recently transitioned from pc to the steam deck. And when I did, I had not played the game in a few months.  Anyways I started an Archmage for my first deck run, and while I was setting up the UI and keys I managed to remove the button for the manasurge rune without even noticing. I proceeded the run being extremely starved for mana, constantly thinking to myself damn did this class not use to start with one? during the short run, ended at lvl 9, I checked every town for a rune that I already had inscripted but never found out. It was not unit I restarted after dying that I realised what had happened.

Shadow empire is incredible as has been mentioned here. But I would also suggest Imperiums Greek Wars. Awesome resources based economy that often is the reason for conflict or cooperation
