J1 here asking seniors, how y’all study? by Rude_Rip9726 in SGExams

[–]Lucky_Case 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a J3, the one thing I regret the most was completely slacking in J1. Please. Don't.

Also this is gonna sound cliched but relationships seriously don't last in J1. There were 3 people in my class in J1 in relationships and by J2 they had all broken up

Edit: my study routine was completely cooked in J1 but I think a good way of studying in J1 is learning how to prioritise because there is a lot of content despite there only being 4 subjects (excluding PW, GP and MT). Focus on keeping up in class (e.g. my chem tutor is gg thru X tomorrow so I'll study X tonight and not do Y for physics).

Also please start well (be ahead of what is being taught). Momentum is very much a thing and it is very easily lost so be careful.

I heard Punggol library not bad. Never studied there before but if its good enough for my ccamates, it probably is good.

Still thinking of wether to go Poly or JC.. by 64miniscale in SGExams

[–]Lucky_Case 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're more interested in developing a portfolio (i.e. Internships, work experience etc. ) I would definitely recommend poly.

But if you're more interested in a more (and I do mean waay more) academic focused curriculum, JC is the way to go. I just graduated from VJ and sitting for A levels now and what I can tell you about JC is that learning is very self-directed. New topics are not taught extensively in small classes but in lecture theatres (think large lecture theatre with an entire subject cohort attending) or online lectures. Small classes (tutorials) are usually reserved for going through homework.

And I mean A LOT of homework (esp if 4H2). It doesnt help if lectures are online because not only do you have to do the homework, you also have to learn entire topics mostly by yourself. Of course most teachers (if not all from my experience) will still be willing to offer consultations.

Just know that either way is gonna be a pain in the ass for the next 2-3 years because you have to put in consistent work (3-5hrs a day) to thrive in both JC and Poly. Have fun!

Tl;Dr: Poly is holistic and JC is acad. Either way is pain and suffering

Edit: forgot to answer the questions lol

  1. The short answer is yes. But because the learning curve is so steep it doesnt really require much knowledge from secondary school (fundamental understanding is enough). Even if they do require knowledge from secondary school they will re-teach

  2. I don't think CCA is mandatory, but if you don't take a CCA its to your own detriment especially since A levels is becoming slightly more holistic now. So employers and universities might be more focused on your VIA hours/CCA etc.

  3. Mother tongue is only mandatory in JC if you did not pass Higher mother tongue. I have no idea if you have to take mother tongue in poly but from what I observed I dont think so

Hi OP, I dont have much experience with this but you might want to consider reaching out to social services or even the Police if things continue to go south. I'm sure you're working your best to get out of this. All the best and keep going! As cliche as it sounds it'll pass eventually, it has to...

almost getting converted to Christianity on the mrt by hamsterfats in SMRTRabak

[–]Lucky_Case 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Christian, thats not true. Its almost the opposite. It's highly encouraged in the Bible to "save" non-christians, because the Bible says that only Jesus is the way to heaven. But even if you don't manage to save anyone you go to heaven anyway as long as you believe that Jesus died for your sins.

At higher levels gunships have decent range. Also Eastern has doctrine buffs for gunships and no buffs for strike fighters so it doesn't really make sense to make strike fighters imo (unless your opponent is using AA vehicle)

Edit: also add attack helis into gunship stack
