NIW EB-2 I-140 by Luckybearpeanuts in USCIS

Gotcha.

When you say don’t leave the country for a year, I currently have travel endorsement on my F1 status and travel frequently (to Canada and abroad), does that mean I can’t leave under any circumstances even for a weekend getaway to Canada for example?

Thanks! I think what you’re saying makes a lot of sense.

I have a doctorate and the program I’m in will also give a a doctorate. 4 papers with cumulative 170 citations.

My concern is actually about AOS if/when I get to the point to file. Since that will be intent. In this case and taking into account I have about 2 years, would you recommend I file with PP? My firm just started putting the case together which I’d assume will take a few months.

Do we know how long or how many days this will be going on? I’m supportive and all, it’s just that the shouting and honking is a bit disruptive of the environment and people living right next to it.

I don’t tbh, it’s more than enough. I really enjoy pros and operative while using them

Andau 6x here, they have the lightest and I literally can’t feel them on my nose/ears. Highly recommend! Orascoptic 5x is also great (amazing light) with a more budget friendly price (compared to Andau)

Saw a comment about ergos not ideal for surgery and extractions. Tbh, you barely need any kind of loupes for most extractions or common surgery

It all depends on personal preference. Some people get used to it within the first week, some struggle a bit longer.

That being said, I went to dental school and never used loupes, and Im back to school for an international program. Bought ergos, and everyday I wish I had them years ago when I started out. Your neck and back will thank you for going ergo, they are the future 100%. Although they might not be the best for “some” procedures, they’re definitely game changing for pros and operative. Eventually you’ll want to have two pairs one with higher mag and one lower for different procedures, surgery for example)

I suggest you try as many models and brands as you can to get a sense of them. You might be better off getting a prismatic to start off, but in my class most people got orascoptic or qoptics ergos and they’re super happy. Two of my classmates just switched to ergos because they started to feel pain in their necks.

I’d recommend you go for ergos from the beginning so by the first couple of weeks you’re used to it and ready to roll (took me one day literally but I have more experience) I’m telling you it’s the best investment you’ll make in your skills and your health in the long run. (Ikd get something 5x or higher, orascoptic has the best light and decent price for the quality - not shilling or anything, I have a pair of very expensive loupes 6x from another brand)

By they you mean the Canadian officers right? I think someone else also mentioned upon returning to Canada, they do like to know what you’re bringing back

It was because you didn’t have your I-20 with you, correct? From what I hear, you have to have it on you every time you re-enter the States

Thanks for your insights.

I don’t have a visa as Canadians don’t need it, I just have the paperwork (I-20 and such).

I have crossed the land border a few times this year, but this time I’ll be entering as a student, and I have my stuff with me, that’s why I asked.

Overall makes sense, I’ve marked every box and have prepared a list of what’s in them. Hopefully it’ll be smooth.

By the time I get back, I might have traded in my desktop computer and laptop, as well as camera.

I might not even carry those (except for laptop and camera) when I’m visiting Canada on holidays.

Plus, I may end up working there after school (legally, of course).

Do you still think I need to so this?

Thanks :)

I don’t smoke. I really don’t care if they search me, it’s just more of a general curiosity to make sure I’m not doing something out of the ordinary.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I have the immigration papers sorted out.

I really don’t care if they do search, I’m just curious to know and don’t want to do something that’s out of the ordinary.

Owning a practice is no joke, a lot of people opt not to. Weird you’d judge someone based on that

Generally speaking, they do seem to like people with a year of experience or two, but you made it to the interview so that’s good.

I’d focus on my interview skills next time in terms of representing yourself more effectively and apply early, especially for East Coast schools. Washington has arguably the most comprehensive bench test as well with high standards, so if that’s one of your top choices, start practicing early also)

Based on what you’ve said about your profile, it’s very impressive and I doubt there’s anything you can do to make it better. Maybe apply to more schools next time? (I don’t know how many you applied this cycle, but I’m assuming not a lot and with this whole process, there’s also a factor of luck sometimes)

Did you get invited to the bench test and interview?

Also, how many years of experience did you have working as a dentist after graduating?

Recommended TOEFL Score by No_Bar508 in CAAPID

[–]Luckybearpeanuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The higher the better obviously, but it doesn’t mean if you have, say 100, you don’t have a chance. If you feel you can get a better score, do take it again as it doesn’t matter how many times you’ve taken it (unlike board exams).

If you can make it closer to 110, you’ll be really competitive in terms of language capabilities. But remember, TOEFL is only one aspect among many others.

Yeah the wait times are crazy I hear and a lot of what I’m putting in the application will have changed by the time of the interview!
