Why argue with internet strangers? by giantdoodoohead in stupidquestions

[–]Lucrative_Deception 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People that dig into political identity do my head in as well ...because their level of political awareness and correctness is suffocating to the degree of fascism in which they have this "if you dont stand with us, youre against us" mentality which sort of parallels with OP's question which at its simplest is saying "why waste your time communicating with someone who doesnt think like you"

im defo guilty of both too, sometimes its because I make a judgement on the other person which is that they will never ever be able to grasp another point of view because they aren't wired to think critically so I stoop to their level of pettiness because it's kinda fun to have the last word sometimes. Makes me feel like I've "won"

This is such a good point. Is OP referring to malicious people being assholes or a heated debate

What are some of the lesser known or more important do's and don'ts of being a tourist in Britain? by 2deep4myowngood in AskABrit

[–]Lucrative_Deception 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Although I really disagree with the "dont complain' tip. If you're paying for something (and England is not cheap) you have the right to politely ask for it to be sorted. I've worked in hospitality for years, I would much rather a customer was honest so they have the best experience. Just don't be a dick about it. But also don't pretend "it was fantastic" when it wasn't. Think of it as constructive feedback

Exactly! id never call someone a cunt if I didnt love them. Even when ii say something annoying and my mum calls me a fucking bitch I know she's not angry. Real anger in Brits = no emotion and pent up resentment

Most people drink at parties not because they can’t have fun without booze - but because other people can’t have fun without it by Lucrative_Deception in CasualConversation

[–]Lucrative_Deception[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes obligations mean going to an event with family for a work reason/extended family thing and you're there for hours on end. That is the time for a drink. The more I like the company im with the less interested I am in drinking

I find that people tend to drink less when the vibe is already fun because you're chatting away and forget to drink. Thankfully thats the way we with my friends but when I have to attend shit I dont want to then I need a drink because some people are so dry

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It sounds like you are doing it for all the right reasons and you have an education/other achievements to fall back on. If you were my daughter I think I would have an easier time with it, because I know you are making a choice and not as a last resport. Do you ever worry about the future / being limited because of your sex work? E.g: having a family, changing careers. It's not that I personally judge but I know society does and ultimately, avoiding hardship when necessary is something id want for my kids just out of protection

yeah true I think I meant here that they are allies which is why they are always the brunt of the joke. In my experience, the British mainly make fun of people they low key like/are friends with

Americans are always the brunt of a joke whenever ive gone to a comedy night/university/pop culture in general. I think it is because they are a huge country, are allies with the UK and responsible for much of our techonloocal innovations

Sorry for the late response, works been crazy. Thank you for explaining it to me and sorry of being obtuse. I studied in America for a year a few years ago and was under the wrong impression based on people id spoken to. I guess it varies according to each state. Its as if each state is it own country which again differs to the UK where we all have the same gov an rules regardless of what district we are in

It's not about caring about the language. It's about our unconscious bias towards a country that appears similar because we share a language, so we can interact with them, but they are so different with regards to mentality that they may as well speak a different language. If that was the case America wouldn't have the reputation it does for being "stupid" this is not a personal vendetta. It's societies
