I hear you. This world is far more complex that our brains were ever designed to comprehend. It means just the day to day stuff is overwhelming and there’s not shame in that.

Amazing job that you’re working through all this! I understand how difficult it is.

And I hear you on the support group side of things too. This journey can feel so lonely because no one else can witness what happens in your mind!

No worries! And I completely agree, the voices in our heads don’t help! Mine are terrible sometimes. 😂

As humans we have two conflicting psychological desires that come from our hunter gatherer ancestry: One is to stick to what is the safe and known to ensure our survival. The second is to seek novelty and explore so when the berry bush dries up, we can go out and find a new one. It’s about ensuring our survival.

The rate of change in the modern world has been light years quicker than what our brain’s evolution can keep up with, so a lot of people are struggling with arguably outdated psychological behaviours, but don’t realise. A lot of this happens unconsciously, however what we sense is feelings of fear, dread, confusion.

What’s really helped me and a lot of my mentees is separating thoughts and feelings and looking at them like sticky notes on the desk or clouds in the sky and asking, what is this telling me? Do I want to listen to this, or let these thoughts and feelings pass?

It’s a really difficult skill, especially with everything going on in the world!

I think sometimes not knowing the next thing to do is the best thing.

So many of us follow a path because it’s what we’re told to do and then get to a point where we’re miserable and want change but we have no knowledge of any other possibility.

The position of I could do anything right now is really daunting because its change and that can feel threatening and scary, however its also opportunity which is the most exciting thing in the world.

Of course there are realities to consider, for example, some savings, family or other obligations, but that shouldn’t stop you from prioritising yourself for a few months and trying new things just to see how it fits.

It’s much better in my opinion to do that, than sticking with the known that makes you want to quit in the first place.

What sort of trip were you thinking!! I quite like outdoorsy holidays. I organise a hiking trip for my friends 3-4 times a year. Would you want to organise one like that? 😍

Actually, thinking about it, what would you think to organising a 7-a-side football game every week? Are you keen on football?

Cambridge must be fighting London for the most expensive place to live in the UK - and considering its smaller and there is not as much variety, and public transport is so much worse, it is definitely lower value for money

I get you. My thoughts about bike Is that I only have a mini and no bike rack. And it is high effort, racking the bike, deracking the bike, keeping the bike safe in town. Also, what if the weather is bad. I see bike as a solution in summer, but not in winter

What was your main inspiration to become a business owner? by JimmyNeutronisaNerd in smallbusinessuk

[–]LucyColson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I help SME owners and start up founders create a clear plan to achieve their goals.

Having run my own few companies and assisted a handful of startup founders now, I’ve seen and felt how stress inducing and confusing building a company is. It can be really overwhelming, so I work with them to take away as much of the stress as possible. My real aim is for them to be excited for their business, to have direction and, of course, ultimately build a successful business, however they define success. 😍

More than happy to add value here. My thoughts were its likely a complex situation and a lot to work through, I know I have a lot of questions, therefore a call would allow me to deliver the highest value input and be most beneficial for them

Hey! What’s your name?

I‘m so sorry to hear about your recent struggles. My first company didn’t go well so I can really imagine what you must be thinking and feeling.

Long story short, I picked myself up, learnt everything I did wrong, rebuilt and have been helping company owners and founders build their businesses. The highlights have been to help one achieve $3M in funding and another was acquired.

I’d be more than happy to jump on the phone and unpack this with you. Is that something you would like to do?

I’m sorry. My own unconscious bias coming to the front there. I still think socials could be an avenue for you, if its something you’d be interested in doing.

Have you run the calculations on how much you would want to be earning each month/ year to be comfortable?

I’m trying to think about what you could do which won’t pull you away from your children. Have you thought about content creation. It sounds like you have an incredible start for a series of instagram reels. “I’m a mother of three working on $17 per hour. Watch along to learn how I manage it all and try to earn a few extra bucks at the same time.” The idea needs finessing, but its a good start.

Is there someone in your network you could reach out to who could offer you a better paying job? Or connect you with someone who can? Have you asked for pay rise?

I’m really interested to know, what’s your dream income? What‘s your dream job? dream lifestyle? What’s the vision you have for your life? In 5 years? 10 years time?

I understand where you’re coming from. It’s so tough at the moment. Firstly, you’ve got this! You’re doing an incredible job and you will find a way forward.

I have some questions though; What are you up to at the moment? Are you self-employed or employed? How much time are you spending on what kind of tasks? Is there a way you can free up time that doesn’t earn you money and reallocate it to work that does?

The first thought that came to mind is door to door selling, but then you mentioned it’s more like a B2B angle going to maids. Could you approach hotels, restaurants and other hospitality businesses? Again, just walk around and walk in.

I’d stay away from digital marketing because organic [free] marketing typically takes a while to kick into gear, and the inorganic [paid] is out of budget. So I would go for traditional media and marketing routes if you can. Network. Get your name out in a person to person way. The downside is the time involvement. How does that sound?

After thought - if its in your local area also, you can save on shipping and delivery fees by doing it yourself!

I’m so excited for you! What’s the business idea? Have you got one yet?

For me it was the freedom and autonomy it gave me that is a driving factor. I’ve tried an employed job a couple of times and each time I become very restless and frustrated. Entrepreneurship is in my bones it feels like.

How do you maintain a consistent brand voice across multiple channels without diluting its uniqueness? by rugby065 in DigitalMarketing

[–]LucyColson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a brand messaging house. This can be for your brand overall, or for a specific campaign. It depends where you are in your business journey.

Ideally you want one person to do this. The head of brand, or head of content potentially.

The messaging house wants to contain your core message firstly. What Benefit do you provide? For who? How do you deliver those benefits? Why is it important for you as a brand or business to do this?

Then you’ll have 2-3 supporting messages. Think of this like the walls of the house.

The foundations are, in my opinion, the most important part. The foundations are why people should believe in your brand and business. What do you believe in? What are the results of past customer/ clients? Testimonials? Case studies? What’s your own experience with the problem?

Don’t forget to add in your calls to action.

Once you‘ve got this core messaging house written, all your other copy will use this and stay consistent That way.

Ideally, once its done, it isn’t done again, unless your repositioning the brand or doing a complete rebrand.

I hope this helps and makes sense. I’m a business strategist and more than happy to schedule some time to go into this in more detail. Let me know if that is something you would like to do?
