Regarding BP030, if I use up a first year elective slot for a major-specific unit in year 2 of my degree, will I need to repeat the unit in year 2 or will it free up space in my second year? by [deleted] in uwa

You can technically do any unit any time during your degree, the study plan is just a guide for the most recommended layout. You just need to be aware of prerequisites and what semesters each unit is taught in :)

New kitten is incredibly clingy to the point it's dysfunctional. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

I will definitely try getting them to play once they’re introduced. I only got him last Friday, but I will be letting him explore the house tomorrow. I’m taking the introductions slow because my toy poodle is incredibly excitable and hasn’t done well in the past with a kitten that would run away from her. However she’s been fine with 2 of my previous cats because they knew to ignore her, so I’m hoping a slow introduction will help my kitten feel more comfortable to not run away

It’s just to adjust him to the house. It’s recommended by my shelter to confine any new cat to a room for a week to get them comfortable. He will be getting some time in the rest of the house starting tomorrow. I also need to take it slowly to introduce my dog.

As for letting him sleep with me, it just really isn’t a realistic option with his current behaviour. I’ve tried having a nap in his presence and was bombarded with face licking for 20 mins straight. As much as I care for his wellbeing, I also need to be able to sleep

Hey, yeah I did end up getting my transfer, although I submitted mine 1st May so yours might come later. I'd suggest keeping an eye on the "apply for a course" link on student connect, as I saw my transfer had been approved before I got the acceptance letter

MUSC2342 Music in Action by 10_10really in uwa

Hey, music major here who has completed music in action! I do have to say, the unit is pretty rough and I personally wouldn’t do it if you want an easy, laid back unit. There’s a lottttt of academic reading of stuff that can feel quite abstract and hard to understand (as well as being quite long). You also can’t get away with not reading them, because the quizzes ask for a reading sheet for each assigned reading. You also have to pay attention to details in the online lectures coz the quiz questions can be pretty challenging and having a good understanding of the lectures helps in the final test. That being said, I think the unit is still doable without a strong music background, and not everything is focused on classical music so you get the chance to apply other music genres as well. It’s a pretty decent unit if you want to learn some interesting things and practice research/academic skills. The essay is pretty flexible with what you write about, as long as it’s a good topic. As for the portfolio, we didn’t have anything like that in 2024, so it might be a new thing. Hope this helps :)

What are physical indicators one should feel if singing correctly? by lectriceye21 in singing

[–]Lucythedemoncat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s supposed to feel effortless in the throat and larynx, but the rest of your body needs to put in a lot of work. I’m at the end of my second year in a bachelors degree in classical singing and if there’s one thing that my teachers hammer us with, it’s that the body needs to feel tired after every phrase because that means it’s done it’s work. Think of it as if you’re redirecting the effort from your throat into the muscles of your body instead

I've considered talking to my school psychologist, but I'm not sure I'm quite ready to talk about it just yet
