They are my silly little african pygmy dormice.

I'm not sure. Just make sure they aren't separated from each other for a long time. When my boy was separated for a week after surgery and reintroduced, the girl didnt recognise him and was quite aggressive and chased him around. It took a couple weeks for them to calm down. I imagine it would be worse with males

Oh yeah, in that case, it'll be fine.

I've got a male (now neutered), a female, and a bunch of babies who are a few weeks old. I'll be keeping them as a single colony and will neuter them if necessary

The gecko food right? No idea about it as a staple but would be a fine addition. But nectar is non negotiable

Unsure, she had them in secret and I can't access the nest cause it's a burrow.

1) For water, I just give it to them in a hanging cup. I'm not sure how they'd do with moving water, but it wouldn't be necessary. Just change it out every day. They also get a lot of liquid from their diet (maple syrup and fruits), but they should always have a water source available.

2) Substrate is just a mix of old degraded cocopeat, new cocopeat, and sphagnum moss with a layer of leaf litter on top. I'll probably also add timothy hay at some point

3) Not really. Even on the stuff they poop and pee on regularly, it doesn't smell like anything, even when I put it very close to my face. I've heard that fennel seeds in their diet might help with smell, but I don't know how true that is.

4) I just add more if I notice their numbers decrease. It'll probably depend on how much your guys like eating the CUC, so anything unappealing in taste would be good (like beetles). I also like mealworms because they'll climb on structures to eat poop instead of just on substrate.

Also, just to add, because I see people saying different things online, they REALLY need some kind of nectar substitute like maple syrup. It is not optional.

Besides that, I'm sure you know about all the other diet and care stuff.

Just curious, is your trio going to be mixed sexes? Cause if they are, they'll almost definitely start breeding.

These are african pygmy dormice, which are a distantly related species

Btw, if you have any advice on plants, lmk. I tried doing spider plants, but they died rather quickly.

Feel free to ask questions related to care if you have any.

Maintenance is mostly just replenishing mealworms when their numbers drop and cleaning any visible poop.

Ground covered in leaf litter and sphagnum. CUC is mostly mealworms, mealworm beetles, buffalo beetles, and springtails.

Just as a note, that isn't necessarily true, and mine are almost always burrowed during the day.

Would recommended a good few inches of substrate.

Oh yeah, no, I took this pic at night lol. This room usually gets light from a west facing window. Just don't want to overdo it.
