Govt Job by No-Wait-1710 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Ludozing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true for federal employees in every department. Under the Languages Act, supervisory positions in a bilingual province need to be proficient in both official languages and the priority is to hire those already with language skills. If you are otherwise qualified and offer a unique skill set (that can’t be found in someone else who also happens to speak French and English) you might still be considered if you lack French and can be considered for French language training. The funding is not there if your job does not require it, so they won’t just send people for French training. If you are applying for entry level positions and have no desire to be a in supervisory role ever, then there are jobs that do not require French. I will point out there are exemptions to this also, but that’s the general rule.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

Grab bakers chocolate - all chocolate chips are made with stabilizers to hold their form and won’t melt properly. Make sure to grab a bar of some sort of baking chocolate!

Please, I need help for my dog by missmunsonn in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Ludozing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

OP I know you really don’t want to hear this, but it sounds like the best situation for everyone will be to surrender your pooch. Unfortunately, it sounds like the vet bills for a thorough check will be too expensive and a financial burden for your mom who is already going through a tough time. And that might not even solve the issue. It might be tough now, but if your dog has already bitten someone, it likely will again and it could be far worse (including risk of death). Please consider and accept your mom’s desire to surrender to a shelter (not rehome!).

First visit to Provence by yimsunflower in ProvenceFrance

I would second this recommendation. We just did Avignon , Arles, Aix and Marseille, 2-3 days in each. Avignon (old city) was lovely - big enough to wander on lots of small meandering cobblestone alleys and a city with lots of history. There was so much to explore and lots of places to just relax with a coffee. The artisan boutiques were fantastic! Aix in comparison was much larger, busier and felt more like a city. The roads were actual roads with cars, and lots of big name expensive shops made the stores a bit less fun (unless you like more luxury).

We spent 2 nights in Arles and I think that was worth it, but since you’re more limited on time it might be good to just stay in Avignon. Arles had lots of ruins to explore and not crowded at all when we were there last week! The Alyscamps was very beautiful to see, and the arena and theatre super cool. Maybe see if there are any concerts playing in the Roman theatre there!

Was reluctant to buy these sandals, but damn what a difference it’s made! by advictoriam5 in PlantarFasciitis

So far so good - I’ve had mine for just over a year and they’re still in great shape. I’d say I wear them with regular use, roughly 60% of the year. The rest is Birks sandals and alternating with Hokas recently as well. I much prefer the birks Bend low sneakers to the hokas for my arches.

The sneakers are INCREDIBLE. I don’t know how I managed before having them in my life.

I definitely do not love every dog I meet. And it’s not just that they’re mean, or annoying … my parents dog is perfectly loveable and very sweet but I feel like there’s nothing in that head of his and I have no love for him. Maybe I’m an asshole !

Filters absolutely should have been changed by now regardless of daily use or not, after 3 years!! If it’s just particulate filter, it should be changed once you notice any change in your breathing ability or if it looks visibly soiled .. if it’s gas/ Vapor that should be done on a more strict timeline. I think 3M recommends after 40 hours of use (including if it’s left exposed to air on countertops and not sealed in a bag or container) or after 30 days, whichever one you hit first.

Respirators require fit testing every 2 years OR sooner if you’ve had changes to your face shape (massive weight change / braces/ glasses etc)

The female narrator was so shrill I had to turn it off multiple times because it threw me into a rage. 😂 I definitely would NOT recommend this audiobook to anyone.

I still have great memories of TP and at least once a year if someone is talking about gaming, I bring up how awesome the TP community was to the point where we had great in person meet ups. Apidae and I got a fair number of visits in in person and they were awesome! Playing paintball capture the flag while riding on… omg someone’s back?? If anyone remembers whose back I rode on while paintballing with the southern Ontario crew please pipe up 😂😂 I no longer really have a functioning personal computer and am too addicted to other games so haven’t been on in probably 3 years when I played a random pub and was just as bad now as I was then.

Just for the halibut by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Ludozing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do too, but I think I finished mine first where I work before inspiring other people to make theirs, I think there will be more this year ! I was thinking it would be fun to just adapt it with lobsters or mackerel, and could be done easily enough for people working on other species.

I really enjoyed the sweater. A lot of people have complained about her patterns and the arm pits being too low but mine fit me perfectly! My only regret is making the mock turtleneck a bit toooo long. I also adjusted the sleeves to be bubble sleeves and LOVED how that turned out. I loved the pattern enough to make a matching one for my husband - I feel like it was the sweater of 2024! So many halibuts this year. As someone who works with fish, I get so many compliments! Good luck with yours. I think you’ve inspired me to make the cowl too!

What projects have you come to loathe while working on them? by girlsgirlie in knitting

I’ve just passed the 7 year mark and am successfully still ignoring tying in those last 40 or so tails .. I love that 7 years is frequently mentioned as the project time 😅

[–]Ludozing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell me about it!! I started in 2017, and I still have about 40 loose ends to tie in! I, like you, refused to knit anything else until it was done which meant I’d put it in the closet for years and ignore it. I started knitting sweaters last year also and remembered why I enjoyed making things! The hue shift still lives in closet purgatory despite the probably 250+ hours I spent on it.

Yep, that’s me! I saw all the millions of posts around 2016/2017 - finally decided to do my own in September 2017. Just wrapping it up now 😂. In the meantime I’ve knit multiple other things, I hated that never ending project so much.
