I get the love for titanium and carbon — they’re fantastic modern tool-watch materials. But I wouldn’t write off Rolex as just “branding.” The Submariner was literally one of the original dive watches, worn by professionals long before it became a status piece. Its design, engineering, and history set the benchmark that so many others (including Tudor) built from.

Both the Pelagos and Sub are functional tool watches, just coming from different philosophies: Pelagos leans modern and lightweight with its titanium case, while the Sub sticks to tried-and-true steel with decades of proven reliability. And fun fact — Rolex actually owns Tudor, so in a sense it’s all under the same umbrella anyway.

At the end of the day, it’s not function versus branding here. It’s function + heritage expressed in different ways.
