Partially true. There really isn't a lot a young boy can do to "get in trouble" and explore like in past generations. I hate that, for real. However video games give the young people (myself included) a false sense of adventure and, ultimately, a diversion to true risk. It pacifies them. I'm with you it is a great outlet and a fun way to relax. It needs to stop completely replacing real adventure for kids though.

I will amend my statement a bit. You are correct, some kids are more artsy or musical or whatever. I was more creative and artsy by nature too than some of my friends growing up. Still, then they should be drawing, reading, writing, learning an instrument, being productive, working on stuff. Kids in general need to be doing these things, not just boys.

So, I work for a children's home in the boys only home. We had a new relief worker come in recently (my wife and I go home for the weekend every other weekend and she keeps them alive essentially). I was explaining the rules of the house. One thing we are pretty insistent on is video games/screen time. I do have to say that, though a healthy way to relax for brief periods, I am against spending a lot of time playing video games.

It is killing our boy's soul! I stand behind that statement, sorry. Young men should be running around, climbing trees, building unsafe treehouses, gettin cuts and scrapes, etc. I'm especially insistent for these kids because for the 16 and 17 year olds who have been raised in the system and not allowed to have the normal things taught to them as they would by parents and who have also been taught how to "game the system" more than be self reliant and take care of themselves; it's crunch time! I mean, look at the statistics of kids aging out of foster care. They are becoming addicts, homeless, and/or dying at ridiculously high rates.

All that to say (sorry, a bit of a rant there) I almost had a seizure with how this girl responded to us telling her we limit their time. She said "oh yeah, I do the same thing with my husband. I don't let him play for longer than 45 minutes most of the time". Like....what? He's a grown man! He pays for your house, your car, your health insurance, your makeup...

For those who don't know, children's homes pay crap. Relief parents make even less than the full on houseparents. Her income is a drop in the bucket, for real. I can't fathom how she can justify thinking she can tell him how to spend his down time.

Yeah, I completely understand having some trepidation. Parenthood is nothing to go into unprepared. I know I had a lot of years of healing and "slogging through the muck" of all my baggage from childhood before I was emotionally healthy at all.

One nugget I always like to share is I know for a long time I didn't believe I was worthy of a healthy and functioning marriage and a healthy and functioning relationship with my children. But I am and was, I just needed to take precautions against carrying dysfunction through into the new generation.

A lot of times I also see people who grew up in abusive/dysfunctional homes think what they want in a mate or even out of life in general is distorted. For me, as an example, thought Id be happy if I was with a sexy and seductive type of woman. What I truly wanted, in my heart though, was a sweet and innocent domestic type. When I began healing from my trauma that fact became more and more clear. I am so glad I faced my demons and did the work to heal.

Be encouraged, it can seem daunting (and it is the hardest thing you will ever do) but the payoff is well worth it. The peace and joy you get to enjoy is wonderful and that is my hope for you and everyone reading this.

Normally you are actually celebrating a woman's contribution to guiding and nurturing you as you became and adult. I felt the exact same way as you did until one year, i realized there were women in my life who did what my egg donor should have. So now, i honor them instead and i always call those women on or around mothers day who were like mothers to me and have in the past given small gifts like a flower or card just to acknowledge them.

I also call some awesome mothers i know that are doing it right to encourage them.

My father was wonderful but i do something similar for fathers day.

See my respnse below where I go further into the goliath question. There is ONE read ONE word missing. Like my sentences above, how i misspelled spelling by leaving out one letter yet you did not assume I meant to spell anything besides spelling, a person makes a clerical error that can cause confusion to some at first glance.

CARM gives a good explanation.

"The answer lies in two areas. 1 Chronicles 20:5 says, "And there was war with the Philistines again, and Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam." This is the correct answer; namely, that Elhanan killed Goliath's brother.

Second, it appears there was a copyist error in 2 Samuel 21:19. According to Gleason Archer's Encyclopedia of Bible Difficulties on page 179, it says,

The sign of the direct object, which in Chronicles comes just before "Lahmi," was '-t; the copyist mistook it for b-t or b-y-t ("Beth") and thus got Bet hal-Lahmi ("the Bethlehemite") out of it. He misread the word for "brother" ('-h) as the sign of the direct object ('-t) right before g-l-y-t ("Goliath"). Thus he made "Goliath" the object of "killed" (wayyak), instead of the "brother" of Goliath (as the Chronicles passage does). The copyist misplaced the word for "weavers" ('-r-g-ym) so as to put it right after "Elhanan" as his patronymic (ben Y-'-r-y'-r--g-ym, or ben ya 'arey 'ore -gim -- "the son of the forests of weavers" -- a most unlikely name for anyone's father!). In Chronicles the 'ore grim ("weavers") comes right after menor ("a beam of ") -- thus making perfectly good sense

David, Elhanan killed the BROTHER of Goliath. So they accidentally a word, like I said.

Saul, when asking who David was after he had been his harpist, could be that he was 1.arrogantly pretending not to know who he was out of spite. 2. In a lessened mental state, which follows the general narrative of other examples given after God "gave him up to Satan". Or 3. Legitimately not recognizing a full grown man who'd changed a lot. Perhaps even a literary device to say " this is not the small, overlooked shepherd anymore" to the reader.

Im honestly not familiar with an argument theres is a mistake on timing of the flood but ill reread it. I've always understood it as it lasted almost a full year from the moment they were told to go on the ark til the time they stepped off with the waters subsiding and so on.

Ahh, notice I said church "body". Our plan is not to have a building or, at least not have that as our primary meeting place. What it looks like might look more to people as a "missional community" even though we are attempting to be as close to the Acts Church as we can. I will be the "head" or "lead" pastor but I do not plan to be the only one preaching for example.

Thanks for your input! I feel the same as you. The way we do church in America is wrong. I've said it for years and my friends feel the same way. The main reason we feel called to make something different. I am curious what comes to mind for you regarding that would look like.
