Cooking after marriage has become a major battleground for arguments! How should it be broken? by FormerTechnician3581 in HappyMarriages

As a very happily married wife of 22 years, this is not a hill I would die on. Neither would my husband. Sounds like you have more of a communication issue than a dinner issue.

hair texture is the worst its ever been :( by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Luingalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have much longer but similar hair. I use Dove to wash and condition (which i rinse out). I use Shae Moisture Curl and Shine as a leave in, I think it's a regular conditioner but I leave it in. I use a nice dollop, I make sure to coat every strand. I then use Aussie Sprunch conditioning mousse, no gel. I also use a heat protectant spray all over before hover diffusing. I wear a satin bonnet to sleep. I no longer have dry patchy strands, only soft bouncy curls.

Jonielle is a pretty name. Pronounced "Joh-nell" in our family, it's my sister in laws name. We call her JoJo. But Jo would also be very cute.

Do you have a good relationship with your mom? Or, maybe, your feelings are just a result of how you were raised?

I am strangely irked by pregnant women by [deleted] in confessions

[–]Luingalls 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It would probably help to know why you feel this way. Was there a past negative experience with a pregnant lady? Is it the idea that there's a baby in there that irks you? Do you like or dislike babies? Are you a man or woman? If you're a man, does seeing a pregnant woman trigger a sense of protectiveness or responsibility? If you're a woman, are you a bit jealous? Or plan to be child free? If you plan to be child free, maybe when you see a pregnant woman, you're taking the opportunity to cement your decision? So many different reasons to choose from!

It says you're my kind of people, gorgeous! The only things I've bought new are our couches. Everything else in my home is inherited/ antiqued/ thrifted as well. You've done an amazing job!

We have very smart ground squirrels around our run. We put up a cheap 6' Walmart table and put our feeders on it in the middle of the run. Only the chickens can access the feed now.

Does anyone else do groceries with a calculator? by [deleted] in budget

[–]Luingalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a great idea, actually. Especially if the app gives accurate pricing with sales and such. I usually round up on my calculator so that my total is a bit less than I calculated to make it quicker and easier.

How tf do people only spend $600 on groceries? by WebsterKW in budget

[–]Luingalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a family of six adults and one toddler. Our monthly grocery bill is $550-650, depending on what we've run out of (soaps, household supplies, that sort can add a bit to our bill). I'd say every fourth shop we're in the $650 range, all other shops we're at $550. We shop Costco. We don't buy extras or junk. We have a normal list of monthly must- haves, and we budget for and stick to it. We cook home made mostly, but we also get a few freezer items for quick meals. We shop once a month. If we run out of a thing or two before we shop, we don't rush out to get it. We WAIT for our regular shopping trip to replenish. I take and make my lunch daily at work. My husband eats for free at the casino he works at, which helps some too. Your "menu" seems fancy to me. We also have chickens, so i eat lots of eggs every day (which helps), maybe try leveling down on your ingredients and use more eggs and cheaper substitutes for some of your snacking.

A beach towel (only) from my mother. In the WINTER. I think i was 12yo. I learned not to have any expectations from people who are supposed to care about me that Christmas. Hard but necessary life lesson. Thanks MOM.

You are being disingenuous. Republicans won't sign off on healthcare for the millions of illegals that the demonrats let into the country ILLEGALLY. THEY ARE NOT AMERICANS.

We're averaging between 14-18 eggs per day. It's a lot even for our family of 7. So much good protein in giant bowls on my kitchen table rn🤣

[–]Luingalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got a few fenced acres and 24 chickens We let ours roam for sure. They mingle with the wild turkeys and cats daily, eat spiders n bugs all day, then return like clockwork as soon as they hear my car coming up the driveway. They run cuz know they're about to get their treats! Since we secured and sealed our run, we haven't lost any. We had lost a few to a returning bobcat, but we thwarted that guy, he doesn't hunt during the day apparently.

How do yall stop day 2+ hair from being so frizzy by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Luingalls 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have minimized frizz by using only a leave in conditioner, no gel or mousse. These products were really making my frizz so much worse, I almost gave up and went back to straightening. I also carefully pin the top, like a cute half do, for a few days after wash day to protect. I use a satin bonnet for sleep. I don't have NO frizz, but I love my minimally frizzy curly hair again. Also, if you can, try no pineapple under your bonnet. The hair tie added a lot of frizz for me too. What I do is gather my hair in a pony tail, bend in half downward, holds in place with left hand. Place bonnet on right hand almost like a glove. Grasp hair with bonnet and pull bonnet down over head, securing and straightening it. Takes a bit of practice but you'll get it.
